There's a rumor going around that the owner had a scuffle with LL, and he stopped paying. *BUT I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS IS TRUE* so don't quote me on it.

A post was made to the history wiki today on the subject.
On April 5, 2006, FurNation closed its doors to Second Life after Billing issues brought on by a lack of funds, partly caused by the loss of dwell from its decline in popularity I checked their website after reading it, but there was nothing there about it. _____________________

Personally I think FN had grown too big over a relative short period of time. Why not cut down on sims or raise rent rates? Or let least let us known about the plans & not dissapear suddenly?
I still miss the 'ol cozy days of only 2 sims, prime & alpha. I guess thats the best self sufficient size. If only it can return to what it was... |

In a way it's a good thing that it's gone. My impression of the admins of the sims were that they were in it for the money, not the enjoyment of the culture. Whatever seemed popular is what they added.
On the other hand, FurNation was a very public center point to the furry culture in SL. And while it may have painted a poor picture at times of what the culture is about, it was certainly the most popular of the furry places. If he was charging rent then how can he not pay the tier... *confused* Not a lot of FurNation was dedicated to rental space. In fact aside from the sky mall in the main sim and the residential parts here and there, there was really no residential rentals. 2/3 of two sims were dedicated to sandbox areas. >/ _____________________

If he was charging rent then how can he not pay the tier... *confused* How was through help from referal monies (nexus was no. 1 for a long time in that leaderboard).. which that went defunct in January.. and through develops incentive.. which is dead now too. They have a very large/active group off SL and so getting new members to come into SL worked... now the reward for doing such is not there and so they only have the traditional means of rent/shops... which if your community is set up more around social things or creating beautiful spaces for the sake of it.. it can be tough to retrofit in the commerce stuff after and in short order. |

I understand but if you have residents or shops that are rented correctly he should make rent being how popular those sims were... in any case its sad to see it go =/ _____________________

Well there are plenty of other places for the displaced furs to go. Tartarus for instance. An awesome sim with a very welcoming atmosphere.

.. which if your community is set up more around social things or creating beautiful spaces for the sake of it.. it can be tough to retrofit in the commerce stuff after and in short order. And there is the shame of it. Everything has to be centered around making L$ now to stay for any long period of time, unless a person has excess income that they want to pour into a bottomless hole. Gone are the days of beauty and whimsical builds just for the sake of pleasing those that wander in. _____________________

so has anyone heard from the owner? Are there alot of homeless furries? I guess so, there are 2 sandbox sim perimeters which are zoned for resisdental areas. The rates are very reasonable. Interesting are those who paid rent for the month & see the sims go all of a sudden without a refund! |

A post was made to the history wiki today on the subject. From what's been said by Nexxus, the sims are supposed to be back up sometime on the 6th (today), how long for I have no idea - might be a good idea to get in as soon as they open and make sure you have backup's of all your stuff. _____________________

Gone are the days of beauty and whimsical builds just for the sake of pleasing those that wander in. Nonsense... People still do that all the time. It's just that two years ago, we were impressed with a cool build in a 4000m2 plot of land somewhere. I fly around and I still see tons of "for the hell of it" builds. But now people need a sim or six to impress people, and that's of course going to cost money. As someone who WAS involved in a sim-wide "For the hell of it" project (Spitoonie Island), I can tell you that no matter how much you enjoy doing it, and all of us truely enjoyed doing it, and we didn't charge a dime for it, it gets hard to justify the cost of a sim month after month - not all of us are happily independently wealthy. _____________________

Furnation is really laggy too so it would'nt matter much to me either if it went down. I'm usually at the cub conclave anyways. Ever since Club 69 Radio stop broadcasting for Furnation i find myself not going there as often. Thats where most of the donations came from.

It's a shame to see Furnation 'poof' off the map, but shit happens. From what I gather they had a weak financial plan. The FurNation admin need to work out how many sims they can afford to run without relying on donations and such like and then proceed from there. Plenty of other people manage to buy and populate sims, so there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to do so as well. One thing I noticed about Furnation is that they had alot of 'common' space which, naturally, wasn't generating any rental income towards tier. Common land is a nice thing to have but it needs to be balanced against rental incomes and expenses.

Maybe one or 2 of the sims should be turned completely into furry themes residential areas for rent...and keep the shops open for rent in all the sims. It would at least help, and give furries a home residential community too.

If he was charging rent then how can he not pay the tier... *confused* The following message (by another poster) suggesting they were in it for the money is nuts. You don't give people huge tracts of land below cost if you're in it for the money. On April 5, 2006, FurNation closed its doors to Second Life after Billing issues brought on by a lack of funds, partly caused by the loss of dwell from its decline in popularity. |

It's considered a furry sim but they welcome anyone. _____________________

Now it seems Nexxus cant sustain Furnation without more help. _____________________

Right, so it was six sims, but all of them have gone down because of lack of cash, rather than keep a few? That seems odd.
