Well, there's always Luskwood on that front, Pyrii, but that doesn't seem to be in the list of areas there on the Wiki. Wonder why. heh.

Lusk seems to be just a crowded gathering area around the vendors, and well, the community seems tightly closed to new people. I find it hard to fit in there, but it is a pleasant distraction.

That's odd. I guess it was because it's not technically a separate island (which is what was being initially recorded), but extends over two. We have an article page on it - indeed, it was the first to be added, back in October.

Hm. We're just as big as most of the islands though, if not bigger... That's OK though, it's a wiki.

Yeah, I've just changed it to Islands and other locations as it's clearly not just islands that are furry. :)

(emphasis mine)
Funny, I found the opposite, that the luskwood folk were eager to help out newbies, and chatted with pretty much anyone who came there. I guess it is just personal experience.

Anywho, I personally hope that the down time will inspire some of the fandom to break out of their confort zones, and actually explore the mainland parts that aren't furry themed! I've been constantly exploring in my rat avitar, and not once have I've been griefed simply because of my avitar! Fur/Human interaction in SL is suprisingly friendly, and sometimes I think my fellow friends are too afraid of being griefed by furhaters to give it a chance. I say, bring them on! Be the better person! You'll make way more human friends than human enemies!

Anshe actually charges MORE than tier for rental parcels, and has more restrictions, and gets plenty of customers.

Actually for the land sizes that you discuss what we charge is not more than the tier on mainland (15$ / 2048sqm, 25$ / 4096sqm). The restrictions differ very widely in different area, but you are right that some regions in Dreamland with more detailed rulesets (such as limit on terraforming or specific themes) are very popular.

That's the problem with buying land from someone other than LL. You virtual home can go poof if the person who owns the sim doesn't pay their bill. It's an argument for staying on the mainland that LL provides or buying your own island.

I didn't and I went there in human form. Probably the first place that I didn't get a "Huh?" when I went in there. They seemed pretty fun, frankly and if I wasn't just wandering place to place at the time, I might have stayed and asked a few things. But I was seeing the sights and looking for inspiration, which is usually why I go wandering.

I've seen the occasional regular there offer up money for a newcomer to SL to get an avatar from the vendors, and the experience is always a fun one after their conversion. Lots of thanking and general conversation about things to do which inspires people to show off their constructions. DeniseUnicorn Toonie is particularily fond of pulling out a replica of Quake 1's grenade launcher or rocket launcher whenever the opportunity arises. >;)

Indeed. For the most part humans are very tolerant of furries, are curious about them, or are downright friendly towards them. Sadly it seems the majority of the skittishness between most furries and humans stems from Goreans.

Maybe they need a seperate list for the seems where you aren't gonna see genetalia, one of the major factors of my never visiting most Furry sims. Taco is one, but the only reason for me going there is dwellget.

To be honest, I don't care if furnation will go down, infact I'd be slightly pleased. For my own reasons.

Yours is a reason the PG, Mature, or both? poll started, and you're entitled to your views. But maybe there's a reason so many furry sims are Mature (besides sex), and certainly not all PG furry sims are devoid of sex in private. But to be pleased that FN is going solely because you don't like other people being anatomically correct in your presense is shallow of you, and I implore you to review your beliefs.

I have to admit learning that there was prejudice against furries came as a total shock to me. Had no clue this was happening until on male furry came to our sim and struck up a conversation during which he told me what a relief it was to find somewhere where he wasn't persecuted for being furry. It had never dawned on me that someone would descriminate against someone else because they chose to wear an intricate furry avatar.

My perspective of the world is simply that AVs are individuals and like all individuals some are good and some are bad. Take each one at a time and presume they are good until proven otherwise. :)

Incidentally, no one has mentioned it, or if they did, I missed it, but...

Furnation is back on-line! :)

All six sims are back. A friend of mine went to the Skymall there this morning, and I verified I could see all of them on the map myself this morning.

Yes, all seems well and they were merrily dancing in the Luxor Pyramid. Much ado about nothing, perhaps?

That's for "bought" land, no? Where you pay anshechung.com or the previous "owner" for the land, and call the rent "tier". I'm talking about "rented" land without an up-front charge, like I have on LostFurest dAlliez.

My guess would be that rental rates are going to be higher due to the increased "churn", and the increased chance of land being left unrented when someone moves out (usually they're larger areas as well). The initial cost of my land was half a month's tier, so I'm not all that concerned about initial costs - but to buy the same 1024 sq. would have meant paying $15/mo. to Linden (including a premium account) vs. $8/mo. to Anshe.

Can you quote the figures? I'm seeing land selling for about L$4-5 per square meter, and tier is a little under Linden...

Let's see what I'd be paying. I find 4096 is a nice sized parcel for me...

Dreamland tier for that is US$25 for 5120.

Buying at Dreamland...
I could get 5120 for L$25000 or 4096 for L$20000, and the US$25 tier would be L$7500 either way. That's still around 3x tier.

Renting is L$2000 per 1024, so that'd be L$8000. A bit over tier, but not enough to make that US$66 up front really cost effective.

At LostFurest dAlliez I'm paying US$25 rent for 4096, which is the same as I'd be paying tier at anshechung.com without the L$20000 up front cost.

On Noonkkot there's 6 of us sharing 4608, but I suspect I'll have to take on more of the tier starting in a couple of weeks. :) If I have to pick up the whole tab that'd be L$35 a month, and I paid L$15000 to buy the bits between our First Lands. If I subtract the stipend that's about US$28/month.

So at 4096 it's all about the same, except for the land cost. And of course if we didn't use First Land we wouldn't have gotten that rate... and would probably have paid double Anshe's L$20k for the land.
  1. Dreamland "buy": L$20000 + US$25/month.
  2. Dreamland "rent": L$0 + US$26.66/month.
  3. dAlliez "rent": L$0 + US$25/month.
  4. First land group "buy": L$15000 + US$28/month.

For your 1024, though I think you may be actually paying more in "tier" than you'd pay in "rent" from Anshe. Odd.

I paid $4 for the (Starter) land - half the cost of a month - and $8 tier. It was the only piece of starter land around on that sim, so I wasn't able to consider combining the parcel with other people. I did notice the larger area of land for rent but although it might be a better deal for $/sq.m., I don't need that space. 1024 areas were not available for rent. If they were, I suspect they would have been priced (slightly) above tier.

I did notice other places that appeared to go down as low as $5/month. However, I did not consider them to be at quite the same level of stability.

An (intangible) bonus for being there rather than elsewhere - I like The Forest, and it is my understanding that the tier charge from Tiger Creek goes some way towards paying for its upkeep.

I'm fed up with your preachyness as if I'm some sort of member of the Klu Klux Klan just for not liking that ALMOST every furry sim doesn't mind that someone like me who doesn't like viewing genetalia when in public can be assured to be offended. Is it too much to ask for genetalia and such nudity to be kept to private areas like your home or designated so you don't offend visitors which might be offended by such amterial? or are you gonna play the "It's a mature area so fuck off if you don't like it." Well, I don't bother going so I guess I have "fucked off". But be certain I DON'T reccomend these places to my furry and non-furry freinds alike.

Basically, yes. We don't want your white-pointed hats around here! You're welcome, if you don't care. If you do, that's unfortunate, but I don't think anyone intends to change. We're not going to go out of our way to make you feel less offended by virtual people with virtual genitalia. :)

That's fine as long as they have the same views and would probably make the same decision. No sense in having people come, complain, and then leave.

It's also fine if by "don't recommend" you mean you just don't talk about them - nobody expects you to recommend an area you don't go to.

However, if you're actively telling people to stay away just because you don't like feature X of a sim (and you either don't know or don't think they'd really care about it themselves), I think that's silly, whatever the feature is.

Totally agree here. And as I said before, I (and others) will usually cover up if someone requests it. But that doesn't seem to be good enough for you. What confuses me most is when you DID come to the Forest your mannerism in group conversations would be enough to make sailors blush.

I'm not accusing you of being part of some "cloth the David" (warning, tasteful nudity) movement who banner is a pair of pants. I'm saying that you are overreacting to a natural state for a body and are jumping the gun by accusing anyone and everyone who exercises their right to be nude of being unreasonable.

Honestly, from what I've seen and heard anyone that doesn't immitate a barbie doll is offensive to her. And by that I mean no nipples or genitallia period. One herm had a skirt on and her bits visible underneith the skirt. Pyrii flipped accusing hir of breaking the rules saying shi has her cock hanging out and that its obviously visible. Now the only way you could have seen it is if you were looking for it in the first place by zooming in and rotating the camera a bit to get around the skirt. In The Forest we allow public nudity just not public sex wich isn't unreasonable. Pyrii found this unreasonable by far and left The Forest. I just find it horrible that she feels she has to bash various furry sims for having similar rules.

I agree with Ron, feynt and green. My avatar is usually nude except for lately cuz i made this really cute outfit hehe. But anyway I'm a cute purple fuzzy little wolf girl. Wolves don't wear clothes IRL so out of protest i don't either. :p If a private sim has (Mature) listed on it and the rules clearly state that nudity is allowed, then expect to see it. The forest don't allow public sex however but it does allow nudity. Being nude, and cybering are 2 different things. If you don't like seeing nude furries harmlessly walking around, then the sim isn't for you. However if your friends do, then they will come. As i have stated in my previous posts in these forums that you can never bend second life to your will and force everyone to be the way you want them. You gota accept the fact that Second life is a multicultural world with lifestyles, and religions from all over the world. Everyone has their own beliefs and i love that fact. if we were all the same it would be boring as hell.

By flying over Tiger Creek, I think. :)

Either that or I checked it out on the website. I thought it was reasonable enough. Of course, the location wasn't great (right up in the mountains), but then that's probably why it was still available in the first place. It being a more reasonable size helped, too - I'd find it hard to do anything in 512 . . .
