deserve it? yes --they do.

Deserve having it shoved down their throats at gun point? no --they don't.

BTW --it's not freedom if they don't choose it.

Much like you no longer choose freedom.

Fine, when we vote in 2008 to repeal the first amendment and outlaw homosexuality I'm happy to hear you'll support the majority opinion.

The amendments are being destroyed one by one if you haven't noticed.

Homosexuality is being slowly legislated into less than human status.

Who are you or I to disagree with what the people want? I'm actually looking forward to the coming benevolent dictatorship, it will save me a lot of time not having to think about the issues.

"what mentality? outrage? anger? those are what any red blooded American should feel at this. now the thing is whether you act upon it."

Nice to see that Americans still stand for the right for everyone to freely think and feel what they want to, rather than what they are told to.

Not only is this disturbing, but it asks the question;

"When is the greatest show of one's patriotism an act of treason?"

Aren't "benevolent" and "dictatorship" mutally exclusive? Has there ever been one in history?

We are nearing the dictatorship stage in the U.S. now, and it's anything but benevolent, unless of course one runs a large corporation.

And we, as a country, have helped set up quite a few dictators in our time, and we all know how benevolent they turned out to be..

The name Saddam ring any bells?

Oh, and don't forget, the Taliban was on the US Gov't payroll for quite a while. LOTS of cash was pumped into that happy little bag.

Does Groucho's post remind anyone of that one episode of The Simpsons?

and

So do Iraqis deserve democracy and the same freedom from racial, religious, gender and sexual orientation discrimination just as we do? Or not?

Of course they do. But they don't have that now, do they? Iraq is occupied by the United States. Iraqis have no say in the occupation. They have no say in how, when, or why military missions are conducted. Iraq is not free.

I'm one. Where's the outrage? Right here. I saw the towers fall too. Do you believe that displaying moral outrage will convince the terrorists to stop doing evil? I don't. So I don't waste any energy on it.

Where is the MUSLIM outrage?
07-25-2006 09:14
The real question is

Where is the Muslim outrage?

When some newspaper prints cartoons they don't like hundreds of thousands of muslims riot in the streets, buildings are burned, and people are killed.

But when innocent people or soldiers are killed in barbaric ways by some group of "muslims" chanting allah achkbar, I see no outrage from any muslims.

OK, maybe you hear a few weak wimpers, but not much more.

Isn't the killing of innocents in the name of allah SOME sort of insult to islam?

Which is more insulting to islam and allah.....ink on paper or beheading in the name of allah?

Not really. There's plenty of Muslim outrage, but now is a BAD time for Muslims to bring attention to themselves, positive or negative, because our country thrives on bigotry during times of war.

And those who aren't afraid would be dispelling the enchantment that the conservative portion of the media has over the public, shattering certain concepts that keep the masses from overthinking it all. So they aren't covered by said media.

Interesting theory, but the proof of all that is where? Also, "said media" tends to bend over backwards to prove of freaking embracing of diversity it is.

I was addressing specifically the conservative elements of the media. For instance, you'll see a touching story of a Muslim who is outraged that his life was ruined because of Bushian illegal arrests that were spawned from 9/11 on, say, CNN, but Fox News will cover something to keep us all terrorized during the same time slot.

On topic...

Those two soldeirs would still be alive, in the US if dubya hadn't engaged in government sponsored terrorist actions.

Working day-in and day-out in a newsroom, where I'm told to keep track of anyone non-white that I talk to as part of our "mainstreaming" project -- a phrase that makes my skin crawl, as "mainstreaming" is a word used in education to describe putting "special" kids in with the rest. That, and hearing a supervisor say that the next person we hire needs to be a minority.

Yes, really.

I think you're dreadfully wrong. Positive attention is exactly what they do need. How could Muslim outrage against Islamic extremists possibly be a bad thing? It would incite bigotry? That argument doesn't make any sense. One reason the bigotry exists is because of the silence of the peaceful Muslims--who I believe are a vast majority. Attempting to "lay low" will only make things worse.

Explain to me how, for example let's say, a peaceful march of American Muslims carrying American flags, pro-American / pro-military signs and banners, maybe with some Muslim-American soliders in uniform alongside, will cause Americans to dislike them more. Or, explain how the appearance of iconic Muslim leaders (Martin Luther King level personalities) that counter balance the evil propagandists they have now would cause Westerners to dislike Muslims more. Or, explain how educating people of the common elements that Islam and Christianity have, and how Islam is also a peaceful religion would cause Westerners to dislike Muslims.

Their alternative is to keep fairly quiet like they are now, and eventually in the worst case the good people will be lumped in with the bad ones (as is currently happening), and they will all be shit out of luck along with the rest of the world that has to deal with this terrorism mess.
