gabe, thanks for your help in implementing the event , doing the photography and taking the time to post pics.

a big thank you to everyone who came out and drummed with us. we definitely sparked some new interest in FFRC and had a great time.

i also want to thank Trinity Cole for loaning us Winn Park in Akasha Village. She even set the land separate so there was no streaming music to interfere with the sound and in doing so the traffic there didn't count towards the Village. I appreciate her geniune support of efforts to promote rich content and get FFRC visible.

in addition, Robbie Dingo of Musical Instruments, thank you for taking the time to set up your unbelievable elven drum set and loaning them to us at no charge.

i think this first event was a great example of how people can work together to bring something special to the residents that is purely motivated by our common interests and not money or dwell. it really made me happy to see! u all rock!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of sitting in on the first FFRC-sponsored event, Nber Medici's Learn How to Sail in Hollywood. The setting is fantastic, the bikinis are rampant, and the waters are infested with sharks! Well, there is only one shark, but it's a mean one! Most importantly, the class itself is informative and fun, and Nber is a patient teacher. She has been holding these classes for a few months now, as well as hosting races, and has RL experience with boats.

Myrrh Massiel was there on this particular occasion hoping to improve her technique with the goal of entering a race, not wanting her sailing noobness to make her seem a pest amongst the pros. I have attached some photos taken during the lesson.

There is also an interactive 3D tutorial, and a notecard giver that hands out a set of cards covering sailing rules, racing tips, a glossary of terms, and more:

Correction to Learn to Sail Post :)))

I want to thank Thea for coming yesterday to this event. But would like to correct some misperceptions. The fault is mine - I was trying to talk with Thea and instruct at the same time and did not get across the right message. :) Please see below :

This is NOT MY event. MarkTwain White was actually the one who thought up the idea, and spearheaded it for quite awhile - I've just been helping with it. A lot of other experienced sailors have served as instructors - among them Kanker Greenacre (the scripter of the fabulous Tako sailboat), Pixeleen Mistral, and Faykin Odet. I hate to mention names, because I know that I am leaving out a LOT of other members of the sailing group who have helped. (Please forgive me all of you who have helped that I have NOT named). This is truly a fun time if you want to learn to sail. Come and join us.

Oh, and MarkTwain hosts the regattas. :))

BTW, Thea - those are GREAT pics! Thanks!

Sorry about that, Nber! The fault is not entirely yours, as I was multitasking while sitting in, and have had quite a hectic weekend, so my mind was not entirely in attendance yesterday and I should have asked you more questions about the lessons and the yacht club in general.

I'm glad you like the photos, and I'll definitely be around soon to get my own sailing lesson. :)

Hi guys... there is an in-world group free to join for anyone. Just do a search for groups and use keyword "foundation" and we should right at the top (possibly the only group with that word, not sure).

Before my recent departure from the gaming, and thus SL, world there was weekly meetings every Sunday at 1PM game time for the FFRC. I'm almost positive there still are these weekly meetings...

Contact Gabe Lippmann or Persephone Pheonix as they are the two main officers. (I apologize to any new officers that may have joined if I miss them, I haven't been in world in over a month now :().

Re FFRC MEETINGS
12-11-2005 10:30
Great to know you're still accessing forums, Rye. Yes! We are having weekly meetings at 1pm on Sundays. Following this is the chatlog from the late november meeting and on my next post shall be the chatlog from the December meeting. At our meetings we have a sign visible to make sure people know we are publishing chatlogs and also we ask permission at the beginning of each meeting. Hope to see you there if you are interested in helping. Cheers!

You: Hello Thea. :-) kk.
You: Hello Lenin.
Lenin Camus: Hello
You: is gabe talking on a cell phone while he's away? lol. i've never seen that.
Thea Donovan: Yeah, it's great!
Thea Donovan: I want one.
Gabe Lippmann: hey, all
You: hello gabe.
You: how are you?
Katier Reitveld is offline
Gabe Lippmann: decent
Katier Reitveld is online
You: there were so few attendees last sunday that we called it a development meeting.
Gabe Lippmann: cool
Gabe Lippmann: this time of year, i think people are very busy
Persephone Phoenix nods but i'll pass out the agenda for today.
Calix Metropolitan is offline
You: yeah ... the main thing i wanted to talk about was another way to distribute money that might also garner more donations.
Lenin Camus: Hey, I can't stay for long, but I was wondering if you could pass out the "Anti-Extortinist Toolkit" that Prokofy Neva made to fight back against the "Impeach Bush" fellow?
Solace Lightcloud is offline
You: ok sure lenin if you like. you think this is such a big problem?
An object named Anti-Extortionist Tool Kit owned by Lenin Camus gave you What to Do About Land Extortion.
Lenin Camus: THe guy who owns them, Lazarus Divine, has surrounded all of my land with the signs. They're ugly and they artificially raise and lopwer land prices.
Nebulosus Severine is online
Gabe Lippmann: it can be annoying
Lenin Camus: If you think it's not relevant to Rich COntent, then no need to let people know about it. Just wanted to spread the word.
You: mmm good advice there.
Persephone Phoenix smiles
Lenin Camus: I have another meeting to get to, though. Hope I can make it to the next meeting.
Gabe Lippmann: hmmm
Zonax Delorean: hi
You: Hello Zonax. :-)
Gabe Lippmann: i'm not that opposed to the "toolkit"
Gabe Lippmann: but wonder at bringing in political issues
Zonax Delorean: sorry, as usual i can't stay too much.. i'll have to leave for my show and tell event in about 40 minutes
Gabe Lippmann: to an essentially no political group
Persephone Phoenix nods
Solace Lightcloud is online
Zonax Delorean: but i'm interested how things are going
Gabe Lippmann: thought the heart of the matter isn't really to do with politics
You: ok lemme pass out the agenda as I have it.
Gabe Lippmann: good to have you for the time being, Zonax
Gabe Lippmann: i expect a lot of people are not around this weekend
Gabe Lippmann accepted your inventory offer.
Zonax Delorean accepted your inventory offer.
Gabe Lippmann: so this will probably be shorter than usual
You: yes. I am wondering if we might just talk about the one issue then... and keep putting it forward on the agenda until we have enough to make it a done deal maybe?
Gabe Lippmann: that sounds appropriate
You: i was thinking that we aren't getting a lot of applications so we need to do something to revise those perhaps or how people access them...
You: but also another way might be simply to give awards.
Gabe Lippmann: agreed
Gabe Lippmann: we have been so busy getting in gear
Zonax Delorean: have you 'advertised' FFRC?
You: people doing the work may be too shy to put forward for money
Zonax Delorean: in the forums?
Gabe Lippmann: that we should turn some attention to this now
Persephone Phoenix nods yes we have zonax
You: in the help wanted and in events.
Zonax Delorean: i remember a post about request for applications, but that was once...
Gabe Lippmann: not aggressively
Gabe Lippmann: though
Zonax Delorean: some long time ago..
Zonax Delorean: another thing... what if you would go to nice hosts and ask them to put up an FFRC 'object' on their event place
You: but what i'm thinking is that maybe we could garner more interest and distribute more funds through something like an academy awards kind of thing or a governor general awards.
Persephone Phoenix nods yes Zonax. that's what we've been discussing exactly. :-)
You: but if we have another way of distributing funds also, even better.
Gabe Lippmann: nominating who we think we would like to support sort of thing
Gabe Lippmann: ?
Zonax Delorean: yes, what about an event for people?
You: well, we put the call out to the general public to nominate
Gabe Lippmann: sure
Zonax Delorean: i mean... cast your ballot, send us a notecard which events you like
You: then they nominate those they think make rich content
Zonax Delorean: (that are 'rich')
You: then we give them the awards.
Gabe Lippmann: what about a "class" on how to get event funding?
You: exactly.
You: o good idea gabe!
You: we could do that in both ffrc land sites.
Zonax Delorean: maybe even throw in some 'prizes' for the answers... like, we'll give out L$ 1000 in prizes to randomly 10 people who sent us their opinions (of all those who do)
Zonax Delorean: etc
You: mexxa hasn't gotten to building here, so i put something up temporarily, just to sit and chat.
You: your other site looks a bit more ready for an event. heh
Gabe Lippmann: good idea
Gabe Lippmann: just plopped stuff down
You: anyway i thought that if we did something as a fancy gala
You: (smiles) me too but yours looks better.
You: anyway if we did something as a fancy gala, we could get sponsor interest that way too.
Gabe Lippmann: sure
You: like they could get honoured at the ceremony for their contributions.
Gabe Lippmann: good idea
You: AND we could have the sponsor sign going of course.
Gabe Lippmann: of course
You: carl showed us the sponsor sign last time and it looked great btw.
Gabe Lippmann: good
You: o btw, are you two ok with having your comments chatlogged in the forums?
Gabe Lippmann: yes, hehe
Gabe Lippmann accepted your inventory offer.
Zonax Delorean accepted your inventory offer.
You: heh so this is the discussion about it from last time there
Zonax Delorean: yes
Zonax Delorean: but possibly i won't have too much to add today.. sorry...
Zonax Delorean: but i'm interested in seeing how it's going and maybe will have ideas
You: Zonax, it's great to have your input. You've been most helpful already.
Gabe Lippmann: res
You: and great idea about the class gabe.
Gabe Lippmann: yes
Gabe Lippmann: it seems like it would be something event hosts would look
Gabe Lippmann: at as oppossed to a nonprofit type meeting such as this
Gabe Lippmann: gets right to what they want....funds
Persephone Phoenix nods
You: i think a lot of people who used to do events don't any longer because it is too much work for too little recognition.
Gabe Lippmann: right
Zonax Delorean: yes, that's true
You: for most the funds from sl were just a means of recognition.
Gabe Lippmann: i've seen people get discouraged with how hard it is to get going
You: i think lots of people might value recognition even more than Linden. so having an awards ceremony might help.
Gabe Lippmann: right
Zonax Delorean: well, i'm happy enough with donations and the appreciation of the audience, though :)
Gabe Lippmann: sure, but part of recognition is also people attending
Zonax Delorean: yes
You: heh yeah sometimes that can be enough.
Zonax Delorean: and if FFRC could help get more people to these kinds of events.. yes, that would be great
You: for me, i get lots of people attending, but the dealing with griefers is another issue.
Gabe Lippmann: yes
You: sometimes it almost seems to tip the scale
You: like, i am there teaching a class on how to use gimp to make clothing
You: and some goof comes in and refuses to dress
You: but stays naked with his armaments out
Gabe Lippmann: wonderful
You: then starts firing on the class members
Zonax Delorean: can't you just ban him? or eject?
You: it can be discouraging.
You: when i ejected him we all had to relog
You: he set off a weapon then that made us all need to relog.
Gabe Lippmann: that sux
DaRealNeo Crossing is offline
Solace Lightcloud is offline
You: so in that instance, the only thing that made me feel like i ever wanna do this again is when someone emailed me later to say how happy she was with the first shirt she ever made with gimp.
Zonax Delorean: hmm yes
Gabe Lippmann: right
You: that's what got me thinking about the importance of recognition.
Gabe Lippmann: true
Gabe Lippmann: the are a number of ways that people need to
Gabe Lippmann: feel encouraged to continue their efforts
You: yes
Nber Medici is online
You: for copntent makers, the sale does it
Stephane Zugzwang is offline
Gabe Lippmann: right
Gabe Lippmann: so yes
Gabe Lippmann: this all gets back to ur original concept
Gabe Lippmann: which is solid, I think
You: :-) so I heard the opening gala went well.
Gabe Lippmann: I think it did
Gabe Lippmann: relaxed
Gabe Lippmann: people expressed interest
You: I am most sorry I couldn't be there. i had to deal with griefing for an event host and just when that was finished i had a rl neighbour come over.
Gabe Lippmann: basically cost us nothing
Gabe Lippmann: no problem
Gabe Lippmann: kaia had it covered
You: yay. that's awesome. yeah kaia said she gave out a lot of applications.
Gabe Lippmann: I couldn't stay the whole time myself
You: and carl said there was great turnout too. yay.
Gabe Lippmann: yes
You: :-)
Gabe Lippmann gave you FFRC 11.27.05 Transaction Log.
Gabe Lippmann gave you FFRC 11.27.05 Cash Flow.
Gabe Lippmann: wanted to get that to Zonax before he departs
You: great. thanks gabe. would you mind posting that on the forums? I'll post the chatlog from today.
Zonax Delorean: thanks
Gabe Lippmann: sure
Zonax Delorean: i can stay 15-20 minutes or so
Gabe Lippmann: I think it would be worthwhile to create a sort of formal proposal
Gabe Lippmann: for your concept Perse
Gabe Lippmann: and present it at a better attended meeting
You: *nods* ok. well i wanted to get a sense of what people thought first. lol
Zonax Delorean: btw, transaction log...
Gabe Lippmann: perhaps note that it will be discussed at next meeting in forum or whatever
Zonax Delorean: i dunno if everyone wants to see their names...
You: yes, sounds good.
Gabe Lippmann: right, i just put the Cash Flow on the forum
Gabe Lippmann: Zonax
Carl Metropolitan: Hi
Solace Lightcloud is online
You: ahhhh. good idea Gabe.
You: hello Carl!
Gabe Lippmann: no names, until we determine otherwise
Carl Metropolitan: Thanks
Zonax Delorean: the transaction log is okay, but maybe it could be kept for the eyes of the officers only, for now...
Zonax Delorean: probably the best policy is to let people donate 'anonymous'
Zonax Delorean: somehow
Zonax Delorean: i know it's strange, but i think i know a reason for it: suppose you're an L$ millionaire, but you don't want others to know and beg for money, etc...
Zonax Delorean: you could donate L$ 100 000 anonymously
Gabe Lippmann: please do, hehe
Zonax Delorean: or maybe you'd just think it's not important for ppl to see your name... etc
Zonax Delorean: i know, this is just a small detail...
Zonax Delorean: but it just popped into my mind
Zonax Delorean: I am an activist for a foundation in RL, and we experienced the same issue there, too :)
Carl Metropolitan: Why not give people the option? Say the default is donors names will be listed, but they can opt to be anonymous
Gabe Lippmann: sure, Carl
Zonax Delorean: yes, the option sounds good
Gabe Lippmann: we were discussing the funding ideas that, i think, you guys discussed some last meeting
Cheryl Mysterio is offline
You: yeah we were talking about the idea of an awards ceremony carl.
You: hey did anyone else get you a logo yet for the sign?
Carl Metropolitan: Nope
Carl Metropolitan: But it was a holiday week.
Carl Metropolitan: Most people had other things on their inds
You: true. (Any Funders Reading, Please send Carl a Logo if you want it in the sponsorship sign) <----- for the published chatlog.
Gabe Lippmann: right
Zonax Delorean: so, reaching a bit back again, what options were up for thought? for expanding the no. of funded events?
Zonax Delorean: going to hosts? allowing hosts/events to be nominated?
You: yes. and the class to encourage people to apply
You: I can volunteer to do the class.
Zonax Delorean: oh yes, that's a good idea
Carl Metropolitan: A class is a great idea
You: since I am a teacher irl. it was! gj gabe.
Gabe Lippmann: could be as simple as a real short thing
You: yep anyone could do it
Gabe Lippmann: to get people the idea we ARE funding
Zonax Delorean: how about advertisements? like metaadverse? though i think that would be a waste of money, because it's more in clubs, probably not reaching the target
You: maybe we should each do it as a matterof fact.
You: yeah we approved an ad in MM
Carl Metropolitan: Gabe works for the Metaverse Messenger, right?
Zonax Delorean: maybe reminders in the forum, reminding about applications?
You: but i can't remember who took that on.
Gabe Lippmann: yes
Gabe Lippmann: for the moment, hehe
Carl Metropolitan: Do you think you could get them to do an article on funding available?
Gabe Lippmann: it's possible
Tang Lightcloud is offline
You: o do you gabe? if so would you mind getting stuff in? that would rule.
Zonax Delorean: are there other newspapers being read by many ppl?
You: also did we give nber funding for her sailing thing? like did she get the funds? i haven't looked at the financial statement yet.
Calix Metropolitan is online
Gabe Lippmann: yes
Zonax Delorean: maybe it would be worth to find them, and get an article, or paid advertising
Gabe Lippmann: yes, to Nber getting the funding, that is
You: we should get her a sponsorship sign then and get a pic taken of oneof the classes then.
Carl Metropolitan: As for the Forums--where is the appropriate place? "Land and the Economy" (we are giving money away) or "GeneraL"? Or both?
Zonax Delorean: is there an events forum still?
You: hmmmm yes the events forum.
Zonax Delorean: maybe there
Gabe Lippmann: yes, but not well read, i think
You: but since we don't only fund events
Carl Metropolitan: Yes--but this isn't an "event" per se
Waves Lightcloud is offline
You: it might be good to make use of
Zonax Delorean: Land and Economy? yes, maybe that, too
Carl Metropolitan: I'd want to do one of the two I listed
You: hmmm yes land and the economy and general even.
Carl Metropolitan: They are the most active
Gabe Lippmann: true
Zonax Delorean: i know it's rude to crosspost too much in forums, but maybe those two are on topic
Zonax Delorean: and is okay
Gabe Lippmann: it's best if you do it
Scooter Ludd is online
Gabe Lippmann: to separate when you do it
You: we could always post the equivalency of a reference card.
Carl Metropolitan: Best if I do it?
Gabe Lippmann: so they don't go in at the same time
You: see here for more info.
Gabe Lippmann: right
Calix Metropolitan is offline
Carl Metropolitan: Okay--I'll post there.
Gabe Lippmann: sorry, Carl, interrupted thought stream
Gabe Lippmann: but either way
You: see this is the other benefit of an awards ceremony thing
Gabe Lippmann: since we aren't really selling anything
You: we can put ballot boxes out
Gabe Lippmann: one cross post isn't too bad
You: that increase our visibility
Calix Metropolitan is online
Carl Metropolitan: True--it is an event, too.
Cheryl Mysterio is online
Gabe Lippmann: yes, Perse
Scooter Ludd is offline
Forseti Svarog is offline
You: so it gives us more chances to connect with rich content makers.
Tes Tiramisu is offline
Carl Metropolitan: I hope at least one of the posts can start a 200 message flame war :)
Carl Metropolitan: Good publicity
You: hahaha
Gabe Lippmann: i would be happy to get that going for you
Persephone Phoenix giggles
Carl Metropolitan: Feel free to flame me
Gabe Lippmann: throw in a couple of the touchstone items
Gabe Lippmann: FFRC supports P2P
Carl Metropolitan: I think last time I posted someone told me I was probably an Anshe Chung alt.
Gabe Lippmann: is pro zoning
You: talk about escorts, griefing or dwell and you get a lot of people going.
Gabe Lippmann: I knew it!
You: heh
Carl Metropolitan: "Free Money For Rich Content Events--and That's No Ponzi Scheme"
Gabe Lippmann: nice
You: Woot!
You: hahaha
Zonax Delorean: hehe
You: great use of search words too.
You: i bet a lot of people interested in that debate will see it. lol
xquitz Banjo is online
Gabe Lippmann: totally
Gabe Lippmann: suspense is killing me Carl
Carl Metropolitan: Oh--don't wait for me.
Gabe Lippmann: hehe
Carl Metropolitan: I'm just thinking on they keyboard
((Then Sim Crashed and we affirmed goals stated above before ending meeting))

You: carl you're gonna post in general
Carl Metropolitan: No--I was going to post in Land and the Economy
You: also could you get Nber a sponsorship sign, Carl?
Carl Metropolitan: Gabe was doing General.
You: ahhh ok. sounds good.
Gabe Lippmann: ok
You: and then hey thea, how are you with a camera? lol
Carl Metropolitan: I can--but we only have two sponsors on it
You: Thea, would you want to take pics of one of Hollywood's learning to sale classes and post it in the Gallery as our first sponsored thing?
Carl Metropolitan: Why don't I just give her the top half for now.
You: o yeah. maybe we should wait a week then? till we get more sponsors?
Gabe Lippmann: sounds good, Carl
Thea Donovan: Sorry, was reading the minutes. lol
Thea Donovan: I LOVE using the camera in SL. It's almost my favourite thing to do here.
You: kk. send the top half now and the sponsorship part in a week and ask her to put it under the first? maybe give her the heads up in advance that you'll be sending the other half in a week.
Carl Metropolitan: Can someone send me another copy of the Minutes? I hit discard instead of save
You: heh fabulous. do you agree to accept that mission?
You: sure carl.
Carl Metropolitan accepted your inventory offer.
Thea Donovan: When do the classes take place?
You: you might contact nber or mark twain and they can tell ya.
Thea Donovan: Okey doke.
You: :-)
Gabe Lippmann: there is a Sailing forum thread as well that might have the info
You: yeah that's true too. it's on the events thread
You: erm forum that is
Gabe Lippmann: right
Gabe Lippmann: right I think they are just starting a sailing event
Gabe Lippmann: now
Carl Metropolitan: Okay

Got the previous log in but now i'm getting post errors that won't let me post the last chatlog from the meeting. It says:
You have included too many images in your signature or in your previous post. Please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.

I don't have any images that I am aware of in my signature! Very odd. I'll get someone else to post the chatlog later. Cheers.

I'm coming into this super-late, but as I posted in some other forums (and IM'd to an FFRC officer or two), the Pumacity Convention Center is available to host events for free, and exists for pretty much the same reasons at the FFRC. If -in the course of arranging or supporting new events- you need space to run something, just let me know.

In the meantime, you can visit Pumacity, or check out the web page. I don't, however, make any promises as to my web design skills. :)

Got your IM, Casey. Thanks. It is on my list of things to respond to. :D

Pardon my rudeness. Have lots up in the air and have been chained to my office chair of late.

FFRC Meeting Logs Dec 4-jan 8
01-08-2006 15:41
In order to maintain transparency in all that we do, the Foundation for Rich Content (FFRC) Meeting Logs are posted as follows. Please forgive me for taking so long: had to eliminate smilies from the posts and also all online / offline notices. The logs follow. Anyone interested in a volunteer post as FFRC SECRETARY please let me know.

PS found a new way to post em. no more smilies to be eliminated in future!!

Wow, a nice webpage. I didn't yet check the place in-world, but looking at the webpage, seems good!

Could you write about the PCC? How does it work? How come it's a free place? Did it work out?

While this seems to be a bit offtopic, it is actually not. Someone at the meeting today (see log) threw in the idea of maybe getting an island just for events... It's a long shot idea given FFRC's current status, but I didn't even realize, that there IS already such an island... I mean, the PCC one.

I can only speak as an FFRC member, not officer, that it might be worth thinking about a kind of partnership or cross-promotion... but I don't have any real ideas yet.
