THEN TRY THE NEW EVENTS LIST!

http://www.SLBoutique.com/events/

How do you add an event to this list? Use our simple in-world event addition device. You can get one free here:

http://www.slboutique.com/index.php?&p=buy&itemid=30524

We keep full discretion at which events may be added. Do NOT spam the events list with non-events or your privileges to add events will be revoked.

Anyone with an SLBoutique can add an event which will be listed immediately. If you don't have an SLBoutique account, you can still add events, but they will have to be approved.

WE ONLY ACCEPT ACTUAL, HOSTED EVENTS. We do NOT consider tringo an event if you're a tringo parlor; we don't consider free slots an event if you're a casino; we don't consider a party an event if you're a club; and yard sales are NEVER an event.

We don't have anything against tringo parlors or casinos or clubs, we just choose to define an event as something that is hosted and not in line with the status quo of a land plot.

Please enjoy - and let's see how this works out!

Regards,

-FlipperPA

Definitely. I'm keeping it off for a day or two while I work out any problems that may occur - but its live and ready to go! :-)

I don't see anything wrong with posting a shop opening -- provided that it's actually the first time your store is opening, like a "Grand Opening". I don't like events that are, like, "Store opening! Every day at 9am!".

Or were you just being sarcastic? ;)

Wow, Flip, I remember just reading you saying you were thinking about doing this, and here it is already! I also remember thinking there should be some kind of in-world way to add events, and presto!

LL should really be the ones doing this, but we all know how that's working out.

Thanks!

Wow, GREAT idea. I am really surprised no one (including myself) thought of this sooner.

Way to see a need and fill the gap! I can't wait to see if this takes off!

I used this device a few minutes ago to add a Toys for Tots fundraising event. It was very easy to use. Great job, Flipper!

OK, let's see. (You already know how I'm going to come at this. ;))

Free slots isn't "an actual, hosted event" - even though the host is there and very much alive and talking, and it takes place for a defined one hour at a specific, scheduled time, and then it is over at the end of that hour?

Tringo is not an event if you are "a Tringo parlor" - I guess by that you mean, if you schedule Tringo more than an arbitrary number of times a day? Let's say, for the sake of argument, you have Tringo once a day, and the host is (of course) there and talking, and it occurs at a specific time and is over 1, 1/12, or 2 hours later - that is not an "actual, hosted event?" If so, is it still an "actual, hosted event" if the same place schedules Tringo twice in a day? Or three times? Or has Tringo twice and Slingo once?

Parties. Parties are not events if you are a club - even if it is a specific theme party, to take place, with host present, between specific hours, after which the party is over? But a party held anyplace that is NOT a club IS an event?

Yard sales (though I do like to look for and attend them) often don't have any host present, but can actually sit there and "go on" all day, so I would agree that those are more like "special sales" than "events." In other words, a friend of mine does yard sales twice a year. So to her, these are definitely events. But other places do them more frequently (and some places, possibly constantly), so they would be more like frequent special sales.

This part I really don't get: "and not in line with the status quo of a land plot." By that, I assume you mean an event would be something that place would not NORMALLY do?

Of course, you would expect "free slots" to take place almost exclusively in casinos. And you would expect a lot of parties and special nights and contests to be held at clubs. Etc.

But . . . this definition would also certainly disqualify a whole lot of other things - like the Ed Woods Machinima Festival, which was held at . . . the theater where they do those things! To name just one.

You would expect film festivals to be held in the theater of the people organizing the film festival, and you would have no problem recognizing that as an event. (And definitely a fun one! I loved it.)

So you must not really mean that part about not in line with the status quo of a land plot - except insofar as you mean they do the event too often. Like, say, every day at 5-6 for Free Slots.

I would say that virtually nothing casinos or clubs ever do would be considered an event under the above restrictions. Or - if they were doing something special they insisted only happens once in a while, they would have to first convince you of its infrequency.

Then again, some of the things I have happily attended as events in the past also happen quite regularly. The Last Call at the Elbow Room being one of those, plus the MSFT movies, plus various other things, like regular trivia.

Having said all the above, I think it is helpful for people of similar tastes to have a special forum for highlighting things they consider to be events they would be interested in. Very exclusive. Will meet a niche market.

I also think it's a great idea because I wouldn't want the SL Events list to have any such restrictions, since I'm one of those who likes to know everything that is going on! And maybe this will take the heat off that.

Thanks for the kind words, and comments, everyone!

Sorry 'bout the Elbow Room - you'll notice it was posted by me (as a test) and just happens to be the event that was at the top of the events list in world. I was doing a test, heh.

Coco: here's the beauty of this... no one is being forced to use it. No one is being forced to post events here. Its on my server, and I get to make the decisions, since I'm the one footing the bill. Same thing with FreeView's web guide, ultimately. People can use the in-world list if they want, but here's an alternative for people who want events that don't occur hourly. :-)

Regards,

-Flip

We have things in place for looking for events, you want to see only classes then use the drop down that is available. There are lots of things to offer in Sl and what may not appeal to one person may be what another is looking for. That is why you can use the drop down or key word search.

I guess though some would rather complain about the small issues in SL than some of the real concerns like performance and so forth.

Or they'll actually take what they don't like, take some initiative, and create a solution instead of complaining. Like Flip did here.

I've got no problem with the appeal to the masses at all! :-) I just wanted a separate place where people looking for something a little different than the typical can visit without having to sift through the rest. I didn't mean to come off as complaining - just looking for like-minded people.

I forget who ran the statistics - was it you, Travis? - on the events list and showed the overwhelming percentages of events that were really non-events. I'm hoping to inspire more unique, creative events for those of us who really enjoy the zanyness and creativity of SLers. :-)

Yah that is pretty much why I pretty much stopped having and going to events... too much crap to wade through on both ends to get to the good stuff. :)
