From: Myrilla Vixen Depends on how you define honest. Some people really feel they are not the gender they are supposed to be, and as such their honesty would cause them to tell you something different than you'd see by looking between their legs. I'm not defending the guy looking for casual type-sex by wearing a female Avie and acting like a slut, though.. sure I understand what you are saying, but still, there needs to be full disclosure, I really see it as same as the issue of age. There should be option for people to sublty declare their RL sex, maybe in the "First Life" section of our Profile, I know people would still lie, but some wouldnt.

I'm a male that plays a drag-queen. Is there an option for that?

From: Aodhan McDunnough Hmm ... I think the sheets need more starch, they're not stiff enough. PS. The most inhuman av I have is a spider given by Hunter Stern (great work, man). I haven't gotten around to making a totally inhuman avie for myself yet. (Sony) PS2. Almost died laughing really, but I have to go do stuff at the mall. NO I am not buying pledge, plastic covers, or starch. Best laugh I had in the past 2 weeks Myrilla (mwah). PS3 Anyone want to take up Myrilla? Cheers, I think I may say my final thoughts and leave this thread to be.

The age thing is alot more serious than gender, but I understand what you mean. Though I think it should be the kind of thing you ask if you deserve to know the information, not something listed in the first life tab if someone doesn't want to disclose it. They'd be more likely to lie in the tab than if you asked them outright, I would think.. And I don't think there /needs/ to be full disclosure, it'd be nice sure, but I think getting that personal isn't what some people want. Alot of people use SL because it's a fun and anonymous way to be themselves, or someone else entirely. If you need to be moe careful because of it, that's just how it's gonna have to be, ya know?

Female who plays female. Much like IRL, I like having the option to wear dresses and skirts without people immediately thinking of cross-gendering.

Age Issue
07-20-2006 03:11
Dearly Darlings,
For me age is always an issue...I'm older than you all by miles I think. I'd get confused if I tried to be a man here. So I just stuck with my RL looks....you can always tell the purple haired little old lady with purple glasses will be me...in any universe! You all have a lovely day.
Ever Yours,
Mrs. Showdog Tiger

Thankyou!IRL I am transgendered, f2m, and I play a male av because male is what I SHOULD be. From: Kimberly Mountain Well there are those who are suffering Transsexualism.. so wether they be M2F for F2M, I suppose they like all of use choose I MIND Gender.. not what our body looks like in real life. I don't suffer transsexualism, and I think you'd find very few trans people who would say they do. The only thing I suffer is society's attitudes to it. People like Miss Cinthya. I never ask people in-game what their RL gender is, and I don't think anyone needs to know unless they're planning on some sort of RL relationship. I did wonder though, what the statistical breakdown was, so it's an interesting poll.

From: Felix Uritsky I don't ask about a person's RL gender either, unless it's in direct context with the conversation at hand. If someone's wearing a female av in game, I assume they don't want to be treated like a guy, and vice versa.
I'm physically male IRL, I switch back and forth mentally depending on the mood I'm in and the situation, and I have a male and female account on SL. The only problem I can see is if an association in SL becomes such that it transends SL and enters an almost RL relationshop - ie one where you are at least THINKING of meeting in RL then this becomes a problem. In my opinion - and this is just my opinion so please dont flame me for it - if you are starting a relationship that has any chance of moving beyond SL - even if it stays online - its a very good idea to make sure that the other person knows.

From: Briana Dawson Well, by your name I would say you are a furry. It seems in SL, so far, only furries play herms. I've yet to meet a person who wasn't a furry, but yet a herm. I guess it's a furry thing. Briana Dawson I have both the Xcite! Cock and the Xcite! Clit. Althought I purchased the X2 purely for "Research Purposes" {I sell Xcite! Settings, and alpha testing them requires parts} I am finding a great deal of enjoyment can be had by wearing both at the same time. Although I consider myself to be predominantly female, it's kinda' hard to maintain that image when a person's working with both of those parts at the same time. Incidently, my game is mostly gothic vampire. I'm a pretty strange girl.

But I have played male characters in Everquest on-line Adventures Frontiers for the PS2. People were more confident when their "Tank" was a male. Had a Lvl 32 Ogre Shadow Knight. But my highest 3 charcters were female, Healestra (60 Elder), Silkee (60 Ninja), Manababe (55 Enchanter).

Female IRL, female in SL. When it comes to MMORPGs, I'd have no problem playing as male character, I had one years ago in UO that was quite fun. But in SL, I'm not neccessarily 'playing' any role other than myself (so far, I suppose I could say, who knows what sort of gorean furry vampire I could morph into eventually). I'm also very enamored of the fashion industry in SL and the highly-advanced-paperdoll aspect, which I doubt I'd enjoy as much with a male av.

From: VolatileWhimsy Bu female all the way around.. I would think the amount playing the opposite genders would be more.. I think I know why it's not the case. In most MMOGs the player population is primarily male, and since they don't get to see too many females make up by making their avatar female. SL on the other hand (and as you can see from the survey) attracts enough real women to balance the population. I mean, why would a man make a female avatar to entertain himself when there are enough real females out there? So what began with most people playing their gender, it just continued because they see enough real members of the opposite sex. Focusing on the aspect of sexual attraction there are two points of view: strut your stuff (make your ideal self) or oggle (make the appearance of your ideal mate). With enough prospects around, the drive to oggle is much reduced.

Yes, SL attacts a significant number of women, but people have no way of knowing that when they join.

As a friend of mine said "the women are all playing Second Life" Given how SL is made I always expected that it will attract a LOT of women. In here is the ability to fashion yourself into any shape and dress yourself up in the best clothes with minimal expense. No other MMOG offers that and a lot of women would love that environment. Men do too of course, but given the alternatives (read: other MMOGs) SL, just like The Sims, has what it takes to reach out to women while the other MMOs don't.

In any case, remember, you're polling the forums here, not the whole population. It's an indicator, but no more than that.

Very true, but having been to other forums those numbers above are nothing to sneeze at. They don't mean absolutely that SL has more women than men but most other MMOGs with such polls display at least a 6:1 male:female ratio.

I don't think it should matter one way or another if someone asks, it is just simply information and some ppl need that information to react appropriately to a given situation. But on the other hand I do not think you should treat ppl differently based on their sex. But than again I am saying that from a nonromatic point of view. And everyone has a right to their views and opnions as longgggggggggg as they realize it is not fact. So Miss Cinthya saying she doesn't agree with it, is her view point and she is intitled to it as long as she doesn't act like an ass about it. Just like if someone wants to be a frigging duck and walk backwards has the right to without censure.. /shrug
boy you ppl sure give me ample opportunites for my soap box. I thank you.. lol
