Didn't you have an incident like this about a year or so ago, when your self-replicating creature ran amok? You were begging for forgiveness and you got it. I realize this incident went way beyond what you did, but just find it odd that you would be willing to break forum rules by naming names and calling for blood when you were in the same boat once.

This specific named person is not a random newbie, he specifically and deliberately has attacked people in our area, just last night even, as part of a group of 5-6 who were trying to grief a guest we had. The code was malicious, beyond a doubt, though probably not actually written by him. Chances are it was written by someone far older and less stupid.

Actually the W-hats as what I know, are a group that would often build 'disagreeable' builds in SL.....in the effort to encite a response.

I personally didn't see a HUGE problem w/ them. I liked 'something aweful' and sometimes chuckled at their humor. Don't get me wrong I DON'T chuckle at racist humor so save it.

I guess they always wanted to 'push the envelope'. A lot of those here 'older' than I had SERIOUS issues w/ them. I figured they were all just 'touchy' hehe. I should have realised that they had had more experience w/ these fools and I should have been guided by their wisdom. Eh well we live and learn.

Don't know what the name of this one or his was, my point was not to elevate Lordfly's honest accident to the level of today's incident, just to observe that he had once been in a position to be publicly hung without trial.

Actually, yes. Denial of Service attacks by a few poignant pricks have happened in the past, and a script that could crash a couple hundred sims is not only possible, but easily writable.

Trust me on this one. Some of us could, but are smart enough not to.


Edit: Missed the context on that one. If you're referring to "mistake" as opposed to "targetted assault," I apologize. This is clearly the latter, unless someone really, really, REALLY didn't get it (good luck proving that).

I'm sure it would be easily writable, as several of my friends have had scripted projects "escape" though they were not re-spawning objects. Most just flew up into the air and/or off-world and were soon returned to their inventories.

But if this guy really named his object "griefer" something-or-other, that implies that it was intentional, out to serve a purpose.

It's more the fact that he sent out these scripted objects, AND named it something suspicious, that has me believing that it was not an "accident." (not to mention the fact that a representative of the group is trying real hard to convince everyone that it WAS an accident...)

Edit: "Mistake" was meant in a sarcastic manner. It seems, to me, to have been an intentional attack.

I can believe it. I remember another incident also where nazi type pictures were flipped out to people and it appeared to come from unsuspecting residents.

That's funny, I thought objects were supposed to be limited to something like four generations after the "Dead Ants" incident in Welsh. That was a long time ago...

I would also like to say that this SAME name was on balls that was thrown in the shop I was setting up. I also had EXTREME lag then nothing. Since the game is down I am still unable to log in. I have a prnt. screen of what these looked like as well as... if it saved a pic I was attempting to upload to show someone. I THINK I got the prnt. screen uploaded for anyone HINT (Lindens) to take a look at, these did have a face image on them.

How the hell can all areas on sl be attacked simultaneously? Wouldn't it need more than one agent of destruction? This seems awfully strange to me.

If you create that much pressure on the servers in one place, aparently it takes out the "space server" which kinda, controlls them all, or summit like that

What I was saying is that the balls occured in many different places simultaneously, as is apparent if you read the Linden hotline...what I was asking is how the balls could occur everywhere at once

However, I would argue that this is a different matter entirely. The evidence seems to be weighed against the person I named in the thread topic.

For one, he's a member of a group that has, shall we say, a "questionable" disciplinary history in SL for the last year.

For two, the object was named "GrieferSphere RC3" or something similar.

For three, anecdotal reports (perhaps false, perhaps true, who knows) elsewhere in this thread seems to have indicated that he's tried pulling shit before.

For four, his only defense in the IRc channel (as the grid was crashing) was "sorry", along with some semi-sarcastic responses with his other SA goon friends in the channel, eventually leading the channel to be moderated.

My zombies were never meant to do anything except spawn up to 14 per sim, and die upon being shot. They were extremely controllable, slow moving, able to be killed, and limited in population. Furthermore, they were purposefully slow-moving and cube-shaped so as to minimize the amount of load they placed on the sim.

Was I a dick for releasing "teh horrible zombehs"? No. Am I dick anyways? Probably.

Whereas my incident, Ezhar's multiplying fish, and Pete Fat's ant problem were all tragic mistakes, or attempts to liven the grid up a bit, Ol's entire purpose seems to have been to cause a ruckus.

SO he caused a bigger ruckus than he bargained for. Can't say I feel bad for him, sadly. Reap what you sow, and all that. I spent 3 days straight cleaning up my mess, apologizing for it all, getting a few warnings in my profile, collecting some neg rates, and taking a major credibility hit.

If you name an object "GrieferSphere RC3", it means not only was the probably intent TO grief, but not only that, that this was "release candidate 3". Which means there were at least two prior versions of this.

Finally, it's not like there aren't disconnected islands with which to test this shit on. If it goes amok, it stops at the borders. You ask a linden to fix it, he says "you suck, dont' do that again or I whack you", and life goes on.

This entire scenario has "criminal intent" written all over it.
