I always say Religion is fine, if taken in Moderation.

If everything should be taken in moderation, should you be moderate only in moderation? :D

That television show? Is that where you are getting Jeannie? She was always peppering everything she said with "Master". If I recall correctly.

any intelligent, free-thinking woman is fit for burning.
From: Reitsuki Kojima
They never really existed, to be honest, not like most people think they did. That whole term is a load of bunk coined in the 50s by a historically ignorant new-ager.

Besides, almost everyone burned in the so called "burning times" (laugh) was Christian. Don't you know the first thing about a proper witch hunt? You never burn the heretics. You burn the innocent.

As is just _being_ gay. Forget the whole views thing. I don't think it's possible to pop into a welcome area to help people without hearing "that's so gay" or "you're fu**ing gay" within the first ten minutes. Not necessarily aimed at oneself, but it still feels like ridicule.

Woah! Tangent. :D

Ohh I know he was - but someone must have reported him for some reason.

Wow - didnt know the Welcome area had deteriorated so much.

Doesnt that make it the "Unwelcome Area".

Shouldnt the welcome are be chaperoned or something?, does LL really want new customers shown the nastier side of SL during their first hour?

I think you missed the Original Post

Aelister is trying to tell everyone they are either stupid, or mentally unstable for being anything other than Athiest.

No one has attacked anyone for being free-thinking. Heretics or anything else.

Well unless your free-thinking leads you to beleive in anything Spiritual - then the OP would be.

Eh. Thus far it's just the whole "burning times" claptrap. I've gotten so sick of dealing with it. It's almost entirely a made up "event"... feminist, neo-pagan delusions. The numbers are wrong, the causes are wrong, the targets are wrong, and the gender of the accused is oversimplified to make a point. But I hear it so often. At least on Fark people are too embarrassed to bring it up, but elsewhere...

I've often wondered the same. Maybe that's why they're experimenting with Community Registration Portals:

http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/06/05/an-experiment-for-new-residents-community-registration-portals

I'd often see Adam or Hermia Linden at the WA when I first arrived (long after you/it was May 2006 ;) ). Torley and Pathfinder would occasionally drop by. If things got too bad, you could call Live Help and a Linden would TP in and fix it. Those days are long gone. WAs are definitely more unruly and Linden-less these days. I used to think Ahern was the worst, but nowadays I prefer it to places like Waterhead and a few of the smaller infohubs. They are more like school playgrounds.

And as much as I love these kinds of debates (and agree with the OP), it's really inappropriate for resident answers.

If the OP could actually think rationally about his subject, he would realize that the only rational position is agnosticism. Atheism is a belief too: You really can't prove there is no Supreme Being out there, any more than believers can prove there is. Especially in a universe where our most knowledgeable scientists admit they don't even know what 90% or more of the matter and energy out there is. A little humility about making declarations of alleged "fact" are in order. (Hey, do you suppose it is really all green cheese out there? O.O)

Methinks OP had an unhappy childhood, and now we are all being punished for it.

[Wanders off looking for a serious subject.]

Well burning at the stakes did occur-

For example -

in 1545 Jean Calvin had 2 women burned at the stake for alledgedly using sorcery to spread plague.

But they were scape goats. It wasnt a mass attack on Heretics.

---

Joan of Arc, of course, was burned at the stake as well.

----

Burning at the stake was an execution style used against women as opposed hanging in some cases.

But as you point out, the wholesale mass burnings of heretics idea is not accurate.
