There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Dolcett is the sexualization of the murder and mutilation of women. It is illegal in most civilized countries. Artwork portraying such acts get the immediate attention of the real world authorities. As they are usually produced by serial killers or those high risk to become serial killers.

Why on earth is Dolcett allowed to continue to exist in Second Life? When things like Age Play have been purged, post-haste by Linden Labs?

I have never heard of this in world or out.

In all seriousness, Tarina. I heard of it once before on another forum (secondcitizen) a couple years back. I made a reference to it once on this forum (as having heard of it then) and then this thread. Never have I seen it in world or stumbled on it over the net.

It sounds like a very small group of people are involved. Otherwise there would be lots of stuff sold for it around the grid.

It has a giant ick factor to me, but not something I ever see/hear of except on forum posts.

Isn't this just the sort of thing that the Coming of the Pragmatists will solve?

I don't think you know how true your statement is.

It's just common sense what is "broadly offensive," and what is censorship.

No, it isn't. If it were, we wouldn't have a difficulty.

One person's 'common sense' (AKA opinion) is another person's prejudice (AKA opinion).

I'm curious as to what made the OP bring this up all of a sudden? A bad experience at a 4th of July Barbecue, perhaps?

*snort*

Not enough mammal flesh on the grill, I suppose.

...FWIW, the idea of dolcett really creeps me out. But I dun go to places with it. In fact, the only time I've ever seen or heard of it is in these forums, usually from people busy trying to ban it....

You have to go looking for it.

I was in SL for ten months before I finally stumbled into a dungeon that had a dolcett kitchen in the basement...and even then, I could have easily avoided it. I mean, the whole dang house had "kinky dungeon" written all over it. I didn't have to go inside. I didn't have to look around and find the stairs.

You don't have to enter "dolcett" in the search, either. I never have, and dolcett has never bothered me or intruded on my far-from-PG-yet-not-so-VERY-depraved SL existence.

So, Ai...how come all this interest, hmmm?
