You won't be returning.

Actually I happen to be trashing a troll who CLAIMS to own one of my products.

I do own one the Venus. I have owned one since the early days of them coming to market. I also own the product that actually preceeded it. So my history with that product is quite large.

My not returning to your store is your own option. As it was your option to engage in personal attacks and harassment. It's really no loss to me at all.

So the Dolcett thing is all resolved for you? Cause I'm pretty sure that was the purpose for this thread.

I will give the OP a kudo for staying in the box and swinging. So often someone starts a thread like this and disappears, never seeing the fruits of their labor.

No. The original questions weren't really answered. The only thing that has appeared has been a flamewar. Only a few people actually really addressed the actual topic. So no, I don't think things have really been resolved in what I consider a reasonable way.

I saw some RL art lately, it was this guy being tortured on a cross.

Really disturbing stuff!

And then there's St. Sebastian.

Then you will have to close down your business entirely and leave SL. Because every single person who comes into any business or goes anywhere on the grid has the potential to file an abuse report.

Are you also willing to pay for this police service? It would cost quite a bit of cash for LL to employ a significant grid police, even if LL wanted to do that (which it does not).

One of the main points of LL from the very beginning was that it was to be as free as possible. It's a very libertarian vision at its core, very much like what Stephenson depicted in Snow Crash. A police force of Any kind is the antithesis of this. This, among other reasons, is why LL has refrained from creating its own police force, and followed the AR approach with the "broadly offensive" standard. It has more to do with the overall philosophy of SL than it does with legal liability, because at the end of the day the legal liability for LL is more or less the same, and LL won't have much of an ability to dodge legal liability by pointing at its customers.

Phillip's vision was always libertarian for SL. Some people don't like that, and want a police force in SL. To which I say: damn that idea straight to hell. Don't pass Go, don't collect $200, just straight to hell, where it belongs.

Snow Crash is crazy.

Base the real world policy on a Sci Fi book....hmmm who did that before?

If you want SL to go bye bye. then be a champion for no policing.

What's up with all the morality posts on the forms the last few days? Are people bored?

Hhhmmm....let's see...the last time I looked...SL was for people 18 and over, meaning of legal consenting age in the United States.

Unlike RL situations, those viewing or participating in unusual extremes in SL can say NO and have the power of the Gods to 1) TP out; 2) hit the mute button; 3) boycott places; 4) file ARs, and/or 5) Quit SL/turn off the computer/whatever when there is questionable material YOU don't like or wish to participate in. Again, participating in any given situation with one or more persons/AVs is assumed to be the consensual choice of the person logged into that situation. If you don't like it, leave or log off.

There are a lot of things and situations I find rather disgusting and morally reprehensible, which I refuse to participate in. Guess that is why I don't play WOW and all the kill people or monsters games. Where Black is Black and white is white. Good always triumphs over Evil. Or, does it?

I refuse to disrespect the choices of consenting adults in a virtual world, to do so is a form of censorship of freedom of speech and intolerance. Hell, I refuse to disrepect the choices of consenting adults in RL as long as those choices solely are confined to those two adults and done in private or with other consenting adults in private.

I am amazed at the things people want to censor in this virtual world in the name of morality. My morals are fine people. I am an adult, and I can chose what is best for me. I don't need you to legislate that my morals be like yours. I am an individual...I am not a mass produced zombie. Has anyone ever thought....WOW (the word not the game)...this virtual world reflects my RL world? Gosh, wouldn't it be something if we took that political activism and ranting from VR to the RL and and perhaps eradicate some of that disgusting stuff there? Gosh, if it gone in RL, then oh my gosh, it is no longer reflected in the virtual world.

It hasn't been answered because you have not responded to my last post to you. The subject matter is not illegal which is why LL has not 'banned' it.

Wrong.

Here's your original question:

From: Ai Kikuchiyo

Why on earth is Dolcett allowed to continue to exist in Second Life? When things like Age Play have been purged, post-haste by Linden Labs?

Here's the answer I gave several posts up:

From: Trout Recreant

LL will allow anything as long as it doesn't create legal liability for them. That's all there is to it.

Dolcett is not illegal in the US.

I would also argue that Dolcett, while personally offensive to me, is not Broadly Offensive as that term is used by LL [explanation edited out for brevity].

You got a correct, perfectly acceptable answer. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it wasn't answered. since you have your answer, it looks to me like you really weren't looking for an answer in the first place. You were just looking to pick a fight. I don't really know what else can be said to answer your questions. Maybe clarify them a little if you aren't getting an answer, and we can take another shot at it.

/me sneaks back in, and puts a check next to it for me, too.

Dat's why. It's not hurt them, in a business sense, for it to exist.

/me sneaks back out before 3ring catches her.

Check.... that's 5.

I especially liked this part
From: Trout Recreant
I would also argue that Dolcett, while personally offensive to me, is not Broadly Offensive as that term is used by LL. The fact that there is a reasonablly large community taking part in the activity shows that its offensiveness is not broad. It's not like there has to be a majority 51% vote of the general population for something to be Broadly Acceptable. Imagine how awful that would be! It is enough that there is a community involved in it that does not find it to be offensive.

Those two words together... frighten me more than anything else I can imagine.

If you don't like something.. don't participate. Don't search it out.. DON'T GO THERE...

But if you try to smash out of existence everything that you personally do not like.. Who will be there for you, when it's your interests on the chopping block?

I loathe hypocrisy.. particularly in those who would shutter the freedoms of others.

I gave mine really early in the thread, but it was misconstrued into a misdirected ageplay accusation. Please understand that some of us are telling you that to the depth of our understanding; (even though you are deeply offended) it's currently not material that may violate the TOS. (=_=)

Add a tick to Trout's answer. (^_^)y

Check next to it for me too, he explained it really well. I agree with Winter as well. My first reply to you was that if it was offensive to you, then AR it. If LL does something about it then yay for you. By the time I made my second response to you it was becoming apparent that the thread had a high probability of falling into the troll category. I think you've past the point of gaining supporters and are now just fueling an ongoing forum argument to get your kicks.

I second... er, eighth(?) Trout's reply. I have additional opinions on the topic, but really... his answer's more to the point.
