So it can't be, it's totally outside of the realm of possibility, that the US government passed the UIGEA to maybe safeguard a portion of the population who perhaps don't understand that gambling is always going to profit the owner of the games?

Or might it be that whilst they were looking for their "diks" they realized that it would be impossible to regulate electronic slot machines, to ensure that they were "fair"?

One last comment on this. I estimate at least 90% of US states run their own lotteries. These lotteries are the biggest scam in gambling and notoriously have the worst odds. They market, prey, and depend upon the poorest of its' citizens to finance it. So do you really think they care about your well-being or about protecting you?

If you believe everything politicians say to pad their coffers, than I guess you would believe that they are well intentioned when they pass this type of nonsense. Just like saying they will use most of the funds created by lotteries to fund education and then later on rape these funds and divert them to other areas. Or they adopt the premise that its' bad for society in their effort to get certain types of gambling made illegal, but all their really doing is pandering to special interest and a specific voter population for votes. You have to look at the big picture here they're politicians. They don't give a rats azz about anything but the $$$ and the power! I thought it was obvious, but I guess not.

id love nothing more than to ignore the 'good ol us of a'. unfortunately, they have their nose in everyones business all over the world.
your blind nationalism is unbecoming, and a major reason so much of the world find americans distasteful.

Ahh, more unbecoming then the hordes of people who jump on the anti-american bandwagon?

Except that those small odds whatever they are are regulated, and the chance is truley present.

Unregulated gambling the odds are not regulated by default - and there is no way to ensure that the game produces results comprable to regulated games of the same name.

Wow Nina. One wonders why so many come to America to learn and live if we're all so distasteful. And why are so many living their second life in an America based, American created environment?

Get a clue, have-nots. You're just as human and greedy as we are. We've just been able to pull it off better...

Oh please, the sun never used to set on The British Empire, you're not in the same league :P The Romans weren't bad either.

Ummm... well, there's a big difference between gambling where the odds are based on chance as in RL casinos and government lotteries, and "gambling" where the odds are dynamically shaped to maximize the Partial Reinforcement Extinction Effect (for example).

He apparently missed that point.

if sl had sprouted in the the uk, do you think people would have held that against them?

We have come full circle and arrived at my original point.

We do not talk YOU down, every other country talks us down at every opportunity they get.

It is rampant on these forums alone. Citizens of other countries bashing the US and US citizens, and US citizens either quietly taking it or having to defend themselves as I have chosen to do.

SL is a US company. Accept its rules and policies or move on.

It really cant get any simpler than that.

America isnt an Empire by the classic definition - its just been so long since someone had one to compalin about they decided to target us.

People actually should be considering how remarkable it is that Society has changed to such a level that a country with an overwhelming Military Edge is not conquering their neighbors.

hey i think it is expected that people will voice annoyance with american laws if american laws are the reason for something unpleasant. i would have thought that would have occurred to you, but instead you choose to aggravate the situation by spouting ignorant redneck rhetoric. i suppose next youre going to call me a commie?

2. It also pisses me off when a truly international company like SL profits and then takes the easy way out of a situation and bends over for these US clowns. Make a statement and move your company as fast as you can to another country. One that does not selectively infringe on their citizens rights and freedoms for asinine and self-serving reasons.

I agree with most of what you said except the above, so apologies for not catching the sarcasm. If they moved to another country they'd still be violating US law and would be subject to arrest if they so much as stepped foot in a US airport. The law is ridiculous, overreaching, and absurd, but LL didn't make the law, and it's quite surprising that they even tried to work around it as long as they did. It sucks that they're banning it all outright, but what else can they do? This pisses me off too, but not at LL. It's just another example of religious moralism being codified into law at the expense of freedom and in violation of the intent of the Constitution... but that's pretty much par for the course these days. The only hope for laws like this being overturned is for people to start voting Libertarian en masse. :p

We have 700 military bases in over 130 diffrent countries (there are only 199 countries in the world).. I think we have already conquered most of our neighbors.. ;)

It's all just bluster we put up, trying to foster the illusion that Downing Street doesn't still pull all the strings on this side of the pond, that 1776 unpleasantness notwithstanding. ;)

EU...the land of tolerance and acceptance of other cultures...except ones they don't like.

Back to the original point, though. If you are dissatisfied with the way a US company is running a service you're choosing to take advantage of, you can choose not to take advantage of it anymore...maybe even start your own version of that service.

...but I guess it's like the crackhead getting mad at the dealer for only taking cash. You still come to the crack house!

This is an interesting take on it.

However we do not control those countries we have the bases in.

It only affects you because you choose to let it affect you. You have no room to complain.
