Morwen. as much as i like to wear my guns for looks, it is not a problem for me to take them off in respect of others who do not wish to have them on their land. respect is always no.1 in my book. i wish i added this to my last post(witch i dont think anyone read) |

For me it depends on the weapon;
For guns and swords... I don't really find them effective as far as defense goes, but they are great fun to play with against say, my friends. Orbiting each other can be for hours spent giggling and shouting "I gotcha's" at each other.
The other major reason to have swords/guns is style, to go along with a specific avatar. I have a gunman av complete with a gun-oriented AO that I like to use occassionally. I also have an avatar that revolves around blades. Just for looks, mostly.
The other type of weapon is a HUD based weapon that I have for defending myself. I like to hang out in areas that are rife with griefers, so I use them for their defensive capabilities, as well as a way to get rid of the people trying to mess with me.

I meant it as a joke - that is how I speak in real Punk meets Style - I am just the Punk BUT YOU are the style. One thing I learn here is guns are not always best weapon - intelligence and empathy work better. Jiggy |

I have grape launchers, bear launchers, chicken launchers, egg launchers... many many launchers.. I'd love to add a cat launcher to my collection |

From: Jeremiah North Let's bear a few things in mind. In SL, you are not in the United States, and not functioning as a peace officer, enforcing laws on behalf of the people. Each little bit of land here is governed - within the TOS - by the owners of said land. They can pretty much make up whatever rules they wish. Another factor - a frequent problem of clubs in SL are attacks by griefers, who, for whatever reason, tend to come in bearing guns and causing trouble. Rather than debate who gets to wear guns and who doesn't, many places simply ban wearing them openly. Considering you still have the gun in inventory, you could call it a concealed carry. Wearing a gun has no official functon of any kind anywhere in SL, it's only uses are perhaps self-defense and role-play or fun. Lots of folks simply don't want guns on their land, and within the TOS (the constitution, if you will) it's their right. Putting aside what some people want SL to be, it is not presently a democracy and has no Second Amendment. SL doesn't really need a police force, in my opinion, because it would have to be based on those who choose to be under it's purvey, and since not everyone will so choose, it effectively renders the whole endeavour meaningless. The Lindens are the cops here, in a manner of speaking, instead. UPDATE: Ok Ceera already said this while I was writing. Clearly I need to type faster or at least put mittens on others to slow them down . I don't care one way or another, but seriously, giving someone who's openly wearing guns a hard time when there's so many weapons available that you can't even see is a bit rediculous to me. Of course, it's your sim so have at it however you please, more power to you. Just offering my opinion like everyone else. Heck, even my everyday gadgets I couldn't possibly do without all have some kinds of offensive and defensive capabilities. |
