I carry a gun for RP purposes. I've had to draw it on occasions, but I've fired it about twice.

Well after guns were banned in both England and Australia, violent gun crime has sky rocketed. England also has a much higher rate of home invasions that take place when the home owner is at home. Something only the very dumb do in the United States.

Lol perhaps if you really lived in either country you would know that the NRA crap fed to you guys about other countries is just that. I had to laugh when they showed pictures of a few houses with 6ft fences on their web site sprouting averyone in Australia lived like that in fear of home invasion. Half of us don't even have front fences.
Violent Gun crime, Pfft we lose more people to sharks, crocs & electricity :P
Contrary to your belief, in Australia we have a much higher percentage of theft from houses when people aren't home than when they are.

Yeah, you'd have to live here to fully appreciate how funny that is.

I agree with you completely! While I can understand someone asking you to remove your gun if you have it in your hand and armed. But if you are just wearing a holstered weapon and are being asked to remove it, then that is discrimination. It really is no different if I go somewhere and am told that I can't wear my furry avatar. It is basically saying, you are not allowed to make your avatar the way you want it to be.

Yeah, I know, it is your land. You get to make the rules. But making people remove holstered weapons is just as ridiculous as making someone remove their hat (example from another post in this thread) or jewelry. You would rightly be ridiculed for making visitors remove their hats and jewelry, it should be the same for decorative weapons.

I think there are places where it is appropriate not to be visibly armed for the RP atmosphere of the place, just as an AV that clashes with the sim genre would be.
If it were an island resort full combat armor , battle axe & mech AV may not be appropriate.

Lol, it's like gun activists saying guns make a country safer, reducing crime and protecting them from the armed gangs who regularly hang out in their neighbourhood. :)

Same can be said for the Netherlands, crime's involved the use of weapons is very limited.

Thats fine Tegg, serfs are barred the ownership of weapons by their overlords. Free men own and carry weapons. I count myself a free man. Which are you?

Hey, don't forget that if you break into to someone's house when they're at home you can ASK them where all the valuables are, rather than waste time searching for them.

But I thought this thread was about guns in SL. Why are you guys talking about RL NRA propoganda?

My guess, someone who lives in Australia 2007, not feudal England. Archaic argument.

So you decide to put yourself at the mercy of anyone bigger, stronger, or in a gang. I don't. That does include the government.

"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more—we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Free men by that definition are also free to drive APC's in traffic, shoot people who they don't like, wire their front fence to 415v and use ordinance for self defense. How free do you want everyone to be? :)

Oh yes we don't want to be at the mercy of bigger stronger forces like the Government, sounds like a good arguement for everyone haveing their own nuclear missile capability to me :P

I carry a boomstick and can quickly access other guns in inventory. It helps ward off cheeky sods. It can prevent SOME pushing. I am a neko so I carry weapons. Beside it looks incredibly sexy when I walk. Kinda like a female Clint Eastwood sashay. If you can imagine that.
On a slightly diffrent topic how many forum readers have been "killed" in SL? (I am 12 times so far and I dont do combat) and how many have killed avatars in SL (without being in combat zones)?
I was once "killed" by my ex-partners door which he booby-trapped against griefers. It killed me instead - he SAID it was an accident ...

Actually a small tactical nuke could come in handy during rush hour.

The whole weapon scene sure is different than the days when the wars were fought over homesteading the original outlands sims. How do people do combat these days with all of these shields and nuclear bullets, death rays and so on?

.

Those were the Good Ol' days that I recall with a smile. Infightng on the Outlands.

Actually it was really a lot of fun. Gorean lands being claimed. I was always being told to shut up by my platoon leader and not wear bling boots. We were actually wiped out on a midnight raid coz my boots lit up and made the SIM look like a dance floor. I felt like G.I. Jane. It was really second life then and not an extension of "Deperate Housewives" and coffee mornings as SL is rapidly becoming. :)

Even though I suck at using it, I love my SICS Katana. Up close and personal with Jannae.

A woman after my own heart! I love my Black Rose, and I need a sparring partner who's as unskilled as I am. :)

IM me in world, Jannae...we can spar on my land (I think) or we'll make a date to go over to Samurai Island and hack each other up a bit.

From all the newer Bdates who remember the war, I assume that there are more than a few reincarnated combatants sharing the world with me. :)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I've a couple of swords that are for costume purposes, a rapier for my pirate, a longsword for my knight. I also have Samurai Island dual katanas as I did dabble in rp there.

I've an old set of springfield 45s from rping in Toxia back when I started. I own and wear often my SIG229s as they were the first pistols I ever bought and by far my favourite. I've some lovely rifles that will be available some time soon once they are polished up a bit more.

Add a tank to the mix and that's about my arsenal :)

Yeah, I have more than I need but I do get to play with so much before the general populace gets them.
