Don't get too close to the fire or it really WILL look all wrong. She's talking about adding lighting because SL's lighting reflects off your avatar differently than it does off of prim objects which is usually no problem unless you are trying to match your skin tone exactly under all lighting conditions, then it's impossible. If you had a spotlight on it, you could match it in those lighting conditions and it would be fine. This suggestion led to considerable silliness and hilarity a few pages back.

If you put some effort into it, you can get it to match very closely in almost all conditions, but if you match it to most conditions, then in the unusual conditions, like campfire lights, it will look off. I guess the real solution would be to have several for different lighting conditions. You could carry them around draped over your chest in a bandoliero (sp?). The other solution would be an understanding partner.

Oh the mental images! I've been sitting here with my hand over my mouth for the last 2 minutes trying not to burst out laughing in the middle of work. I can just see a bunch of people at a nice ballroom dance club, the men all wearing tuxedoes, with rows of attachments strapped across their chest. TOO FUNNY!

Or for those who prefer subtlety, in holsters at various point on the body: shoulder, waist, ankle....

Actually most the ones Ive seen, noobs and non-noobs were not close enough that the lighting would have mattered.

I was just being nice and giving guys the benefit of the doubt. Note to self: Be less nice.

Anyways,

IF all you guys get to the point where you match in the right light - even *I* will be understanding then.

Though Id still like to be able to click on the Xcite menu and make Mr-right-now's prim light up. Would be loads of fun.

Why would anyone sit naked at a campfire? What with all the bugs....in SL..... :D
...and those crabs......

@Avion: So which technique did you use? Just any old skin patch and a quick photo, or something more elaborate with a scanner and special lighting? :D

Alyx, I dont recall either Avion or Trout saying they were necessarily SITTING at the campfire. Let's see ... what else could they have been doing ....

Oh and if Avion has any sense at all, he departed from this thread right after Carli's offer to evaluate his equipment. Hehe, a group of women with glasses ... microscopes ... whatever ... standing around critiquing their best buddies, oh sure, guys live for that!

I never said anything. I wasn't there. The only campfires I've been at at SL have been the fully clothed kind.

So size doesn't matter, but color does? Perhaps I should get one in red snakeskin? It might not match, but it sure is stylish.

Well it's not like the buddy would fail to rise to the occasion.... or wilt during the inspection...

@Alyx, you gotta pick a country to represent. Colette's Albania, I'm Krygyzstan, I'm guessing Brenda will choose Ireland; anyone else?

Sigh...Linguists. They're worse than attorneys. The campfire itself would not be clothed. That would be dangerous, and in the case of synthetic materials, potentially toxic. Your s'mores would taste funny.

This is the first competition that I'm aware of where pee'ing in the cup to see if you pass the restricted substance test could actually be one of the elements of the event.
