I liked most of those folks a lot though and it was one of my favorite jobs. It's like playing a game all day trying to be in the right place at the right time and you never know whats going to happen next. Everybody takes a cab sometime in their life. And I heard more personal stories when I was driving a cab than when I was tending bar.

When I was in college, I was the news editor of the school paper. We actually had a wax machine and razor blades and did all our layout on light tables. The articles were printed on the world's first Mac's, I think.
Once we did our layouts, the copy editor would give it one final look, and he always had a sheet of letters all waxed up. If he found a mistake that he had missed in the first round of editting, he would carefully carve it out and then cut out the right letter to fix it.
Geesh. I feel ancient now. Those were good times. I remember going in there at 3:00 in the afternoon and walking out at dawn the next day, having barely made another deadline. I did photography for the school paper when I was in college, and I remember the wax and knife layout method too. And I used a slide rule in high school chemistry class, until i worked out a deal with my BF to borrow his fancy calculator when he got out of physics class. Guess I'd better join you in the old folks' room.
