I was hoping to sneak in the back way, but my boss was naturally in the parking lot leaving for a meeting when I pulled up 20 minutes late...

OOPS! :o

My real life boyfriend decided to create account last night, I took him out and got him one
of the Darker skin Chip Midnight skins.
Personally I never have bought one for myself yet the few I have were given to me.
He looks pretty good in pixel form.

Rut Roh! here comes trouble! :D

Summer before last were were late on a project for a big OEM, and they sent a team to our plant for the summer. The guy leading the team was certifiable, screaming, ranting. People were working 24 hour shifts, and the office and admin staff were on call 24/7. One night after letting ppl go home at 11 pm, he called a meeting for the materials group at 3 am. People had to turn around and come right back to work. Finally, the owners said enough, and kicked him out, but not until after the entire staff was ready to drop, not to mention QUIT.

Amazing what we are sometimes asked to do for work!!!

/me waves Good Morning to all the Threadies.. :)

good lord. seriously... i was expecting your story to end in a blaze of gunfire! sheesh. what an ass!

this has potential as a sig line for someone....

hope your day isn't awful from being so tired!

I hadn't thought of it that way, but it isn't too bad, is it? My day is going fine. I have a lot of busy work which doesn't require a ton of concentration, so I'm just knocking that stuff out one thing at a time. It's good to scratch it off my list, and it keeps me awake. Plus, I scored a free lunch today at my favorite Italian place. The carbs probably weren't a great idea, but it was delicious and FREE.

I guess it really is too late to say good morning, even here on the left coast.
So Good Day everyone.
Today's stage at Le Tour was an individual time trial on a flat 29.5km course. Stefan Schumacher surprised us all by coming in with the best time of 35min 44sec. As you can see from the picture he has also taken the overall race leader's Yellow Jersey.

In case you are wondering why I've been so quiet of late it's because 've been builing a bridge... It spans from Buffy's Cove (Viligili) to Duke's Bay (Dhandhoo)

I call it my bridge of insanity. Laters peeps :)
Fabulous!

so, whoever is leading the race gets to wear a yellow jersey? you get to wear it, but have to hand it off to someone who takes your prestigious position?

bummer!

That's just using a computer to produce documents for publication. It used to differentiate between digital masters and wax-n-knife masters, but now-a-days wax-n-knife is the rare method.

At the newspaper I worked for so many years ago, the desktop publishing software used included a proprietary news word processing system for copy, Photoshop for photos, and Freehand for illustration and advertising. Quark Xpress was used for layout and page management, and from there the pages would be sent to a big Linotype film printer, which would be used to make the printing plates.

Um. Hope this answered your question =^_^=

Sort of, it can be used for desktop publishing for small things. To really bring it into full-out publishing you need a layout manager like Quark Xpress, or on the open source side: Scribus

If you're on Windows, this link will get you an installer:

okies. i was reading, and it wants me to download ghostscript first, so i am actually doing that now. i love learning new things, but this is a bit mindboggling... i've always been intimidated by the words "open source", because it causes me to think i have to use code to make things work.

everyone knows i should never ever be allowed to open codes and scripts and such. it only leads to disaster! LOLOL

but i'm gonna try anyway. worst that can happen is destroy my computer, right?

Heh. Fortunately Scribus is very mature as these projects go, and should not require more than using a regular installer - though as typical for an open source project the documentation is lagging behind and sparse :(

It's no help with installing on Windows, but Full Circle Magazine has a great multi-part tutorial on using Scribus starting in issue #1:

Sigh...

Up at 5:00 am this morning so I could be at a budget meeting. There was no reason for me to be at this meeting at all. Now I'm sleepy. 5:00 AM is EARLY. This week is off to a rough start. I'm sore as hell from the weekend, and now I'm exhausted and it's only 8:30 in the morning. Tonight looks like a late one for various reasons. I might perish before Friday.

At least I can goof off in here, and work is plentiful and interesting at the job, so I can keep busy, which is more than I can say for that crap-fest of an old job I had. I suppose that, through the haze of sleep deprivation and pain killers, things are looking pretty good.
My alarm goes off at 4:40 am every workday - but I do get to leave the office at 3:30 each afternoon and I get every other Monday off.
