From: Ava Glasgow Or am I just trying to hold on to something that will never be again?
Don't forget that a lot of the folks that use this thread, and the rest of the forum, are members of the inworld Forum Cartel group. Lots of chatter going on there, too, which is faintly reminiscent of this thread without the icky bits. B.

Do we have something that allows asynchronous discussion, where people don't have to be on at the same time? I ask because normally I'm only on when everyone else is long gone.

No. We definitely need a forum. I mention the group only because there seems to be a sense of loss here, like we'll end up losing touch. This will likely happen in some cases, since there are so many alternatives in terms of forums, but that doesn't mean we can't meet up inworld to get help or just to chat if we're logged in.

/me hugs Mo I know what you mean. This forum is the place thats kept me in SL for so long. If it weren't for this place and the people in it I wouldn't have lasted 6 months. In fact, the only reason I keep coming back after disappearing was to see what people were up to here.I'm determined to stick around for the week we have left though. I'm gonna make the most of it while I can. Its just not gonna be the same elsewhere. Its going to be horrible to have to say goodbye to the place, and I know I'll get pretty upset when its gone. Silly really, when I think its just a forum. I've gone and made myself cry. /me hugs everyone

From: Maureen Boccaccio wow...I can't believe how sad I am. This forum, and the people I met here, hold a special place in my heart, and especially the denizens of this thread, but then...I guess you might have gleaned that from the one or two posts I've made in it. It's because of these forums that I came to know practically everyone I've met in SL. When I first posted ( /327/77/243685/1.html), and asked a question (who believes that???), everyone was so kind. The number of PMs and IMs I received was amazing. I was so touched. I've learned SO much from these forums. SO much. About SL, of course, but more...about music...art...books...people. All those youtubes Mac posted. Brenda's Bollywood movies. All the good advice given to residents new and old The laughter. Oh lordie, the laughter. The tears. There have been plenty of those as well. I'm sure, if I thought about it long enough, I could come up with something I'd change, but right now..I wouldn't change a thing. Except the ending. I'd change that in a heartbeat. *HUGS* Mo, there are no words...

This will likely happen in some cases, since there are so many alternatives in terms of forums, but that doesn't mean we can't meet up inworld to get help or just to chat if we're logged in. This is true, and I've actually been making some efforts to reintegrate myself into the inworld group. But even so, this forum has been my only real SL social interaction, and it's been the only place on the whole internet I have ever participated so actively. Even if we all transplanted to the same forum and started over, I'd still feel sad about losing these forums. Now that I think about it, I'll even miss our little banner at the top. To add to my sadness, seeing Obscuro reminds me that his beautiful Now and Zen build is now a barren plot of land. When I finally left Orientation Island, Now and Zen was the first thing I saw. And though I've never met him, he kindly responded to my awkward newbie IM and said I was welcome to hang out there as long and as often as I wanted. I miss Now and Zen, and I will miss seeing the face of an oldbie that was nice to me when I was first born. Oh FFS, I'm actually crying now. I have become repulsively maudlin!

Hey guys...
02-01-2010 21:25
I've lurked about in this thread WAY more than i've posted... it's definitely not something you can set out to recreate. However, i don't doubt that something similar will crop up at some point in the future. It's one of those things that can only truly happen at random.. usually. But also something that has a reoccurring pace. Sadly, we most likely won't all be there. I have no idea where i'll end up. Although, i suspect i'll be around Second Citizen a bit more often (which isn't much, compared to the rarity of my visits currently). I never grew into the Forum Cartel, either pro-actively or by invitation into anything (although, not sure if a ResMod can be in a cartel.. lol). Although, i may peek in to the forums at some point. Anyhoo.. it's been an awesome ride, both in general and in this thread specifically. Thanks for all the good times, the oohs, the ahhs, the awws and the lols. I'm sure i'll make it back into this thread a couple more times before The Forum Finis (a.k.a. - "The DOOOOM is REAL this time!! event" . So.. Until after now...

I decided to try hanging myself in my garden tonight because my heart has been pierced and bleeds tears of pain and sorrow. Oh forums, they have forsaken us and have left but an empty shell of an avatar wandering this vast, cruel and lonely grid with only fleeting memories of what once was. </emo jive talkin'>

This thread has been a gestalt event - greater than the sum of its parts. I don't think it could ever be deliberately recreated, in the same way you couldn't sit down and recreate some other magic, like The Beatles for instance. But why must it end really?
A family does not die just because they pack up and move. I do hope a neighborhood can be found free of trolls, drama, and immaturity. We have real life for all that negative stuff.
I will save my goodbyes till closer to the end and I will trust they need not be forever.
EDIT: OMG - this makes my post # 2012! I should have bought that headdress. Maybe it's goodbye after all--

From: Cybin Monde Classic I will miss you Cybin. If no one has ever formally invited you, let me do it. Cybin, I think it would be wonderful if you joined the Forum Cartel inworld group. And now you don't have to worry about a conflict of interest! I'm setting my home at the hangout in Allana. I'm not inworld much, but if you drop by, maybe we'll run into each other sometime.
