Rez a sphere. Sit on it. Now go back into Edit. Change the Z setting for Position to around 4000. Leave edit. Go into Mouselook as you fall. See how many sims you bounce across.

It helps if there are skyboxes and other things to bounce off of on the way down. :D

LOL!!! This looks like FUN!

It has been a trying time for me recently and I have felt largely disinclined to talk about it publicly. However I think the time has come to explain recent events that some of you might be interested in and close this chapter of my SL life with some pictures that I put together.

Some of you have gathered, I closed all my in-world business interests recently.
I sold the contest business to a third party and closed my rentals so that I could sell my land.

This was mainly due to restrictions on my time coupled with a continued shockingly poor service from the one major NZ telecom that does not look like being resolved any time soon. Considering that the problem persists at the local exchange (major service over-subscription), it affects all the ISPs that I could possibly choose from in my small semi-rural area.

You may or may not be aware that primarily I paid for my land holdings from the sales of what has been a very profitable picture voting contest system. This has been the case for over a year and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The rentals were a way of having a partial secondary backup in case my revenue stream dried up. It accounted for about a third of my overall tier and was also successful as I was fully occupied for almost 100% of the time. For this I give a big hug of gratitude to all my friends who made that happen.

I never took a cent out of SL and used it all my earnings to enhance my SL experience and provide a place for others to enjoy for free and for some to call home at a reasonable cost.

However, not so long ago I began finding out that whilst there have been no reported or outstanding bugs for a long time on my contest system, I no longer have adequate time to support my customers or improve the system. Couple that with the fact that the upcoming scripting limits mean that a significant reworking of the product would need to be undertaken for my larger customers (the majority) who run contests with hundreds of contestants and I decided that SL was beginning to look a lot like having a second full time job and I wasn't able to enjoy my time in-world or even meet my obligations.

This was further impacted since I began seeing someone in RL. It has been going extremely well and has significantly cut short my potential in-world time as well.

So, I sold the contest business to someone who does have the time/energy to do the things I cannot do and provide support to the existing customer base.
However, without my contest sales I have a few months of tier at best. I could not tier down at all without selling large parts of Watchman and that would impact the rentals to the point where they would not be viable any more. I am not able to get in-world much due to spending time with my BF and my connection which is unusable for at least 70-80% of the time I wish to use it.
I hope that a picture is beginning to form that I would not be willing to spend USD 195 (approx NZD 275) of my own money when the reserves dry up to make it worth while continuing to stay at full sim tier.

I have gone into a much smaller group land project at Blair with some people I also know in RL (you might remember Sophia and the Prowl store) and am contributing my free tier plus a small amount of tier above that to keep an in-world base for the moment as it seemed a waste of my annual premium to not have any tier.

So that is pretty much the whole story and now for the pictures:

*Tacklehugs Gabi. :)

In case you haven't seen it, I wrote a little farewell to Watchman in my blog yesterday.

PS. I'm thrilled that some RL joy is taking you away some of your SL time. That's how it should be. The ISP situation sucks though.

I was sorting through some old pictures the other day and came across something outrageous and amusing which I thought I would share.

If you live in New Zealand this is old news but anyway...We have this pizza company called Hell's Pizza and they have a habit of creating outrageous billboards that end up causing a stir in the community:

OMG, I just laughed out loud. Loudly...startlingly. :D

We often complain about the awful default movement animation LL provides, such as that awful waddle that anyone past week two replaces with an AO.

However, my single most favourite animation is that nonchalant way your avvie brushers him/herself off after taking a fall that would have turned an RL person into a pancake.

I hope they don't replace it when they finally decide to include decent default animations.

I'm sorry that your SL experience has been frustrated by the NZ telecom screwiness and the scripting stuffs --- BUT! I'm very excited for your RL. :)

We have a closing date for the forum. Feb. 9th.

From: someone
On Tuesday, February 9th we're transitioning our forums, from the vBulletin software we've been running for years to the integrated Clearspace software which can currently be found at http://blogs.secondlife.com. This transition will mean that new forum channels will be opened on Clearspace and the vBulletin forums will be closed and archived.

From the post:
From: someone
More Focus: As part of the transition, we're removing some redundant forums and streamlining others, so you can more easily find the information you're looking for. We want the forums to be about conversations with a purpose; to that end, we're paring down to some of the most focused forums, and letting other conversations continue off-site, or even better: inworld. The forums have become jammed with cruft over the years, and we'll be paring down to a smaller number of top-level forums to make it easier to find the conversations you're looking for.
I have a strange feeling this means we here in RA are no longer wanted. :(

I have my response to the blogpost already done in notepad, ready to be pasted in.

From: someone
Yes, the forum was kept on life support, kept alive by the people who visited it every day, who tried to make something of it, who BEGGED for some sort of help numerous times, only to be given exactly what they are being given now....Jive. Go ahead and blame your inablilty to maintain it on the software, if that makes you feel better. Now that you are finally pulling the plug, can you at least have the class to face the grieving family at the bedside and make a statement there? Or are you still hurting from the Zindra affair when you all left with your tails between your legs?

I posted this:

This is a sad announcement for those who have enjoyed the existing forums. I consider this new blog software to be a major step backwards in usability and reliability. It is hard to know even where to begin but here are a few observations:

1) I have to log into the blog as well as secondlife.com, not in the old forums.

2) The full discussion does not always render correctly in firefox leaving large black sections where text aught to be.

3) It is very, very, very slow to move from page to page by comparison.

4) Preferences are esoterical and hard to locate.

5) There is a lot of waste space on each page that serves no purpose other than to ensure you need to scroll more.

If the new forums suffer from even some these issues then I think LL will have destroyed an existing vibrant forum community.

Please imagine this thread on the new forum.
It would not be possible, especially if they listen to comments like this:

From: Not naming names
This sounds like a great move that I know has been well researched by Blue Linden and others.

Please consider limiting the number of individual comments a person can make each day to avoid self-appointed moderators of columns. Limiting the length of individual responses would also be worth consideration. I place high value on those who convey their messages concisely.

Too often, it's the same people with the same attitudes on each subject. I hope this move will encourage more involvement from a larger group.

I look forward to seeing the evolution of the blogs.
