From: Marianne Little I think I will post here just to whine. My internet sucks and the Fibre Optic cable is more delayed... trying to break the contract now and get a deal with another company. *bangs head in desk* I was just trying the hunt in Kouse's Sanctum. My friend stood on the snowflake! It had to be over 1 meter. It took for ever to rez. Gaaah. I have preferences down to low, it is just no fun when it is like this. I spend too much time waiting for stuff to rez. It is eating up my playtime. I can't get into Aoharu... full sim. Sigh. The sale ends the 24 january. Double sigh. And I must get up five o'clock in the morning, so I bid you a good night. This day was just stressful and tiresome from the start until end. *huggles you*

@Malia - that set of pictures is really interesting. Your face in the middle is great - it looks like a real person's face, if you know what I mean.

From: Rioko Bamaisin Yeah it gets very cold up here.I am a hermit in the winter time.
Re: my remarks on the undeserved, I live in the poorest city in Massachusetts. Lots of crime and lots of fraud going on here. I know of several people who are perfectly capable of having and holding a job and do so 'off the books'. But yet still take advantage of our programs. Not only do they not pay state taxes, they are stealing from the rest of us. I agree that it seems obvious that people who don't contribute anything do not deserve to benefit from the hard work of the rest of us. On the other hand, as the Big Government gets off our backs and cuts back on helping the poor I see more and more beggars on the street. And it occurs to me that the less people's needs are met with our taxes the more we pay in other ways. People who don't deserve taxpayer assistance often steal things from our homes - making our home-owners insurance more expensive. They will steal food and other merchandise for themselves and their children - driving up prices for the rest of us. Those who don't get enough of their basic needs met often develop emotional problems such as low self esteem, anxiety, resentment, and alienation from other people. When they get sick enough from mental or physical illnesses or trauma we tax payers will pay for expensive treatments. When their children don't do will in school and eventually end up in prisons? That is very expensive for taxpayers. Honestly I think it would be better if everyone who can take care of themselves chipped in to help those who are unable or unwilling. We could give everyone the gift of believing they are valued

Incapable, yes. help them all we can. Unwilling? They can go to Hell. We've all worked hard for what we have, we shouldn't have to support lazy freeloaders. I'm willing to help anyone who at least makes an effort. But too many people won't even do that much. As far as someone trying to steal mine because it's the easy way for them...let them try. I'm fed up to here with people who think the world owes them something and the politicians who pander to them. *Rant Off.

From: Maureen Boccaccio lol...I just posted this pic in the thread about avatar customization. Remember when we did this project, back in October 2008? The first two pics are with library skins: EEEPS!! Upper left skin should be deleted from the library. What is it called again? I always see it on new folks in a very short and skinny body with strange clothes. *waves* to all We are so happy to be home !!!

It's called Clubgoer Female. And oops, the one in the upper righthand corner isn't from the library; it was a newbie freebie called Tiffany.

"If you don't do your chores you will go to bed without your supper," works well with most kids. But when adults don't do their chores it's cheaper and easier to just give them a non-deluxe version of supper than to force them into the school of hard knocks. Also it's very hard to separate the deserving from the non-deserving especially when some of them are hard-core deceivers and others don't know what's wrong with them except that they can't stand the idea of going to work. And the people judging them are likely not to be in possession of all the facts and don't all agree on what the criteria should be.

From: Seven Okelli That's part of the fun! It's just so wild when all the cars are buried and look like white lumps and there are HUGE piles of snow plowed up onto the street corners.
As long as you have the right clothes, and your house is warm, it's no problem. Yeah, it is fun and then later really cool when the air gets warmer and the bulbs start to come up, But after eight years in Kanasa, I guess I like virtually constant sunshine more than the changing seasons. From: 3Ring Binder i'm watching the harsh wind blow the snow around, creating blizzard-like conditions. i sure am glad i'm not out driving in it right now. but it's pretty from the window as i stand in my warm room. I must agree that eating chocolate (or in your case bacon) and reading a good book, in a warm room while snow falls outside the window is very pleasant. From: Rioko Bamaisin Unfortunately ,where I live, ratting someone out will get your whole family killed. Lots of gangs here and virtually no police presence. Oh dear. Be well Rioko. Wow! lovely.

Not once did I apply for state benefits. Didnt need 'em. Couldnt bring myself to walk into a Welfare Office. Funny story, my Ex DID need state health care. So she finds out the office she needs to go to is in a bad area of Pittsburgh. We couldnt find the place, so I stopped at a CVS to ask the clerk. Lets just say I'm the wrong 'color' for the neighborhood. Well, I ask the lady at the counter where the place was, giving the address. No one knew, not even the customers behind us. When my Ex said "The Welfare Office", they all point in the same direction across the street. Needless to say, with her depression, anxiety attacks, a history of psychological/physical/sexual abuse and therapy, and working 20 hrs a week for minimum wage as a bus monitor for a bus full of small kids with Autisim and other disorders (who often gave her any cold or flu they had)....... They said No.

I can understand this statement for certain people if they only have themselves to worry about, but if you have a child/children, that changes the need significantly

I can post the nationwide racial/ethnic breakdown statistics for welfare/mediaid recipients but it might be a tad tedious for this venue. They are easily searchable though.

I live here,so I guess I am treated differently. But when any one white walks through this prominent Hispanic neighborhood, there are often problems. I know people like to pretend only white people can be racist, but that is simply not true. ETA as I read again I see you were addressing Todd's comment. There are plenty of white people who know where the welfare office is too Todd.

yes, but not in THIS neighborhood. Unless they're buying crack. Whether you liberals believe it or not, there are certain areas of a city where other ethnicities are not welcomed very warmly. It's a nice neighborhood tho!! You can have your car stolen, be shot in a drive-by, raped, mugged, murdered.... Hell, Last year a 10yr old was shot because the gang member with the gun couldnt shoot straight. It's also a nice place where an 18yr old , being chased by someone with a gun, ran into an apartment & used a 5yr old sleeping on the couch, as a shield. 5 year olds arent very bullet proof. Morning hours, people on the street. Nobody saw anything. Last summer some homeless 19 yr old raped some college girl as she was jogging thru the park. YUP! Just a place I want to be in!!! I'll even make yinz a bet- next time your in Pittsburgh area, I'll take ya there around Midnight. If you can make it 6 blocks I'll give ya $200 In my town, we leave the doors unlocked at night. Your car is left unlocked at night, keys still in it. No one bothers it. You can walk around the town at 2 AM and no one will bother you. Even if you have a fistful of $20's in your hand. I can walk outside, talk to the neighbors. I know my neighbors up & down the street. I know their kids, who they married, who had kids, what their dog's name is. Its pretty much a safe place.

(Notice that I am studiously *not* making the assumption that you are white, referring to people of other ethnicities, when you spoke of the 'wrong color'). Because I don't know that, do I? You could be a black or hispanic guy, or some other ethnicity, talking about white people, eh? When you spoke of bad neighborhoods, and being 'the wrong color'. Pittsburgh isn't the only place with those neighborhoods, where those things happen. Most cities have places like that. And, fwiw, *I* would make it your 6 blocks, at midnite. Get my check ready. No food stamps, cash only.

Not sure if you were addressing me,but I am far from a liberal. Circumstances upon my divorce pretty much forced me into renting in this neighborhood. Low rents. Things are economically different now for me though, so I am moving as soon as I can. But yes, believe me I do know that many white people(or anyone not Hispanic) are not usually welcomed in this neighborhood unless they live here. (Like I said above.)
