Turduckens are awesome. I'm planning on having one of those for Christmas this year. I'm fond of the cajun version that has some crawfish tails stuffed in there as well.

Me too.. The turduckens are so moist and juicy; they've been around for several years now, at least I think I first started hearing about them nearly 10 years ago, and finally tried it, loved it. I love crawfish tails so would probably like that too. Mixtures of textures and flavors intrigue me.

LMAO a living, breathing remote. I love it. However, am not willing to give birth to provide that little trinket. Last nite, I was talking with a very straight-laced friend in SL, no kink at all there. I was being very professional, wearing my Virtual Ability tag (/me adjusts halo) when suddenly my rl son tp'd in, in full neko glory. I sighed, and introduced him, can't deny him, eh. The person I was talking to said 'you gave birth to a neko?'. Maybe he missed the 'rl' part, not sure, but he obviously didn't get that THIS IS SL......Had to laugh, and guess I did but ain't giving birth to anyone else, that was it.
I have an agreement with my son. I don't go on msn/myface/facebook and he doesn't sign up for SL.

Pep (He's 14, but is almost as literate as I am; what I am more worried about is that my 11 year old daughter might already be inworld - she has a seriously amoral attitude.)

Well yeah, but you have 'kid kids'. My son is 27, AND he is the one who nagged me into coming to SL in the first place. He was here a long time before I signed up, which I finally did, just to shut him up. Can usually find him in some seedy neko bar. We live very different SL lifestyles, and usually he doesn't show up unannounced. He rezzed at my house because he has his preferences set to arrive at the last place he left from. Otherwise, if I want him, or vice versa, have to IM him and wait half an hour for an answer, just like in RL. :p

I really love all the "first" pics people are posting of their avatars. You all seem to have had a sense of self right from the beginning, me i'm still evolving.

This is just plain crazy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turducken

"... the name is a portmanteau of turkey, duck, and chicken—is a dish consisting of a partially de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which itself is stuffed with a small de-boned chicken."
Even better is a turbaconducken -- a turducken wrapped in bacon

That's one of the reasons I had kids - my son sits close to the TV and, at my command, manually changes channel, volume, subtitles . . .
I actually remember, when I was a kid, the arguments about who would get up to change the channel.

Sounds similar to my family situation . . .

Pep ( . . . but it annoys him a lot more hanging around in the freezing cold after a party for a lift home than such delays disturb me. ;) )

I actually remember, when I was a kid, a succession of family members getting up to change the channel in silent conflict over which of the channels to watch.

i remember our first remote control tv. it was wired, but the wire was only about 5' long, so it was actually easier to walk over to the tv and change the channel/volume than to get up (anyway) and try and fish the remote up from the floor and fumble with the little buttons.

lol, sable; I remember waiting FOREVER to get a color tv. And wow...the first time we saw "The Wizard of Oz" in color...I realized why everyone had gotten so excited about the scene when Dorothy's house lands and she opens the door in Munchkinland!!

A few months ago a friend lost his remote to his puppy's teething phase. We had a fond reminiscence of all the phases of channel changing history we've lived through.

Those big "clickcha-clickcha" push buttons.

The dial that Dad would yell at us for rotating too fast.

The wired remote.

Wireless remote with 3 buttons.

Today's remote that is capable of controlling every doohickey within a city block as long as you can figure out the damn codes.

We talked about the arguments over who's turn it was to change the channel and when its your turn to pick what to watch...oh my channel 2, 4, or 8? Then there were 5 channels then cable...

I was just reading about the call for applications for the 2010 Linden Prize and just realized that Treasure's group - Virtual Ability, was the co-winner last year for the inaugural prize. Uhm BELATED CONGRATULATIONS TREASURE! Hmm, how did I ever miss that! Well done and hope you didn't blow it all on hair and shoes. Just joshin' ... :p

Actually we shared a lot of it with our group members, it's the people that make Virtual Ability. So why should they not share in that reward? (I personally didn't qualify as I am on the board), and we still have most of it. I couldn't get the board to agree to one hair, one pair of shoes, nothing along those lines. We bought some things for our sims that we've been wanting, small things but still, it's the group that benefits......we are redoing our one sim, VAI Sanctuary, which is sort of our 'entertainment sim' and when it's done, it will move over to attach to my sim, Cape Able. We are cautious and thrifty with our money, in full mind that a great deal of it comes from people's donations, you don't want to be unworthy of that, or careless in how it's used, therefore, I actually had to buy my own hair and shoes, which looking at my inventory size, I seem to have done ok on my own. :D Thanks for the belated congrats.

My older siblings used to make me stand and hold onto the rabbit ears to improve the reception for the cartoons they were watching :(

That was my job too Josh. I got pretty good with aluminum foil just so so I could watch with everyone else.

You are so sweet and thanks for asking about my friend! I am grateful for the family liason that keeps me informed.

She was moved to a nursing home for now, awaiting the day she can put weight on her legs and return to the physical therapy center. I am a bit ashamed that I still have not called her but I feel like she needs a little more time to heal before I give her my blast from the past. It has been almost twenty years since we last spoke.

Her mother's wake is coming soon so I think I will go to that and go forward from there. I remember how much a surprise visit from old friends really touched my heart when they attended my ma's wake. I will PM you with the heartfelt reunion story if nothing else...

Hugs to all. I have so much to be grateful for during this Thanksgiving holiday. Please know how much I appreciate how kind all of you threadies are to me when I do post.
Hugs to you Lula. I think that finding out one is lovingly remembered by friends from the past would give almost anyone a good feeling, and I can see you're being careful not to burden her with having to do too much remembering/entertaining etc at a time when other things are at the forefront of her mind and energies. My best wishes go out to her, and big hugs to you.

Which you have probably covered with crumbs that need to be vacuumed up in a timely manner, before you then walk in them and smoosh them into the carpet, which will then have to be shampooed. If you did that to me, you'd pay, somehow. I don't know what would take 'you' there. In my case, I could drop the tv remote in my purse and take it to work with me. My retired husband would be oh so remorseful, for removing the vacuum plug, by the time I got home and provided his beloved remote.
And husbands have to sleep sometime ;)

Growing up in rural, mountainous Montana, we got one station, and that was staticky at best. We kids tooks turns holding the antennae for each other during Saturday morning cartoons, and then flipped coins to see who had to hold it for Dad to watch "60 Minutes" on Sundays. The rest of the time, the TV stayed off. Was too much of a hassle to deal with it, plus the basement was COLD!

I wish I knew somebody obsessed with cleaning up the kitchen, that's an awesome obsession. I only have the one big family gathering at my house yearly, our soul food day, which this year is day after Christmas. We go to my brother in law's for Thanksgiving. He just broke his knee, he'll be a big help for his wife, for Thanksgiving, eh. I don't mind helping to clean up somebody else's kitchen though, really.
Oddly enough I seem to have way more energy for helping other people clean their kitchens than I do for my own. I think it might be because I know I'll be gone before it starts to get messed up again.
