It took a diagnosis of emphysema, 2 yrs ago, to get me to finally be successful in quitting. Luckily, I was diagnosed very early due to a voluntary lung scan that I had done and my emphysema is very mild right now. my sister taught me to smoke when i was 9. (don't ask) and i actually smoked until i was 22.  |

i quit cold turkey. i was stubborn enough to pull it off. but i craved for almost 15 years. it was hardest the first 6-7 years.
even now, driving on a hot day with the windows down i sometimes get a fleeting craving. but yuck! no way. plus, i don't want to trash my health.

Gently coaxing the dieing embers of last night's fire into life to make coffee will always produce a better cup of joe than any whatchamacallit machine produced in the modern world.
Watching the millions of visible stars fade into the sunrise is sorely missed in the "big city' where I currently reside.
I can list the sights, sounds, and smells from sun rise to sun set moment by moment.
3 you're spot on in your description of 'campfire smoke.' MMMMMMMM the smell. This!!!! Nice pics, Rafe....

I picked up a still smoking dog-end from the pavement and took a puff when I was about 6 years old. I gagged for what seemed ages and haven't been tempted since. Having said that, I used to love, and still miss, the smokey atmosphere of a busy pub. My beer isn't quite as satisfying now I'm forced to breath clean air when I drink. Also, and I'm not sure what this says about me, I do love the taste of stale smoke on a woman's mouth. In my teens I did have a poster over my bed of Brigitte Bardot with a lit cigarette between her lips, which might explain my tastes a wee bit. If it had been a nice healthy carrot instead of a cigarette between those perfect lips, would it have had the same effect on my raging hormones? I'm not sure..... |

my "chew" story: My brother and I attended the same university. My senior year, I had the use of one of our family's cars. When my brother needed it, he'd stop by, pick up the keys and leave me a note. One time I came back to my room and found his note. The last, and I might add, most important, part of the note was obscured by what *looked like* a chocolate macaroon... It was not. All I had read was "Took car; I left you a little" I missed the last word hidden under his "gift": "chew"... I was mightily disappointed when I popped it into my mouth. (and yes, you'd think I would have noticed ahead of time, but hey...I was already thinking "chocolate!!!!!" ... ) |
