Oh dear. My subtleties are obviously lost on you. I shall have to be more concrete with my illusions, shan't I.

Do you have female genes, Damien?

Pep (Your arguments do not seem to follow any logical course.)

ETA: Ah, my bad! You don't recognise the word "allusions" do you, and you are being genuinely ignorant; but you won't admit it now of course.

Good morning forum denizens.

It's raining hard in Tennessee. Looks like one of those lazy Sundays to curl up with your favorite person and a good book or an old movie. Or to run around SL with no specific goal.

I love this kind of day. Enjoy.

Quick trivia. Chris Pine, who played Kirk is the son of Robert Pine, who played Captain Getraer, on CHIPs.

He was good, but Karl Urban, as McCoy got my attention, in a big way. I had never heard of him before, but since seeing that movie I've thought of him often....... ;)

Karl Urban....yum. :)

I first saw him in those tv shows, "Hercules" and "Xena", where he was Julius Caesar. He played Eomer in "The Two Towers" and "Return of the King" -- oh, but do I recall that you didnt't see LoTR?

Nope, none of them. In fact, after seeing ST I IMDB'ed him and was shocked to see he wasn't American. What is up with that, the trend of Aussies and kiwis playing Yanks in movies and TV? I'm not complaining, some of those guys are Fair Dinkum, but it seems to be in style. Does the reverse happen down there, are there a lot of American guys running around with fake accents in the movies?

looks like a dreary day here, if the rain hold up I will do some yard work, mainly cleaning up after Boomer, get in a little shopping and catch some of the Indy 500.

Hai Gaiz!

Great to see some more puppy pics, maybe we can finally clear the cat essence from this place. :p

Lula: I passed your wishes on to all the sailors I met...along with that pic of you in the bikini. ;) .

I stood on the deck of Intrepid and thought about Memorial Day, and thanking them and all those currently serving and realized while we should be grateful to them, the day really isn't about them, thankfully. They have not had to make that ultimate sacrifice, and hopefully never will. I hope that Lula's son, Maureen's nephew, the loved one's of any others here, and my own brother and several other family members never have to be really thanked on Memorial Day. I'd rather we did that on Veteran's Day.

Also we tend to focus on the Armed Forces on days like today, but I always use it as a time to remember our civilian uniformed service people as well, be they Police, Fire or EMS, who have also given all they had for us. Sadly, people dear to me number in this category, and they should be remembered as well.

Enough editorializing.

Yes, Brenda...so true. I , too, think of Memorial Day as a special time to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. I live close to Arlington National Cemetery, and each year, in the days prior to the weekend, the sight of the soldiers placing flags at the graves or markers of their fallen comrades is more moving than almost any other Memorial Day event.

My uncle's marker is at Arlington. His plane was shot down in the Pacific during WW II, and they never found the plane or the men who flew that mission. My family would (and still does) make a trip to Arlington every Memorial Day weekend...and several times throughout the year (especially because relatives would be in town to visit).

OK...off to find y'all some breakfast! :D

I have an uncle in Arlington as well, it is such a beautiful place in it's way. My cousin spent a year in The Old Guard in between deployments. He couldn't wait to leave, being an Infantry Officer, he hated being a "Toy Soldier", just like James Caan in "Gardens of Stone", a movie I highly recommend.

Oh yes. That was a great movie...great movie.

You mentioned it's a beautiful place. It is. In fact, growing up, when we'd go to spend some time at my uncle's marker, my mom would have packed a picnic lunch. All through the cemetery, I could see family groups, around their family member's graves, doing the same thing; sharing the day with their lost family member.
