@ Kaimi: Cute puppies!

@ Treasure et al: They're cuties alright. We're going hiking this afternoon.

@ Rioko: My sympathies, sweetie. Broken bones always ruin a summer. Hopefully he can get a walking cast soon? Give you mom our best wishes. (I told my mom that you guys all sent her best wishes and she thought that was pretty neat.)

@ someone who asked about Max - he was at the party on sunday. Seems to be doing well!

Hugs to all - have a GREAT weekend!

@ Maureen - OMG, I sure hope they meant "blood oranges" not "bloody oranges" Let alone that's a heck of a lot of food to be considered a healthy breakfast.

G and I are going to see the Star Trek movie finally today. Our intention was to head into NYC so we could view it in IMAX format. Much to our chagrin, we found out they only show it as a midnight feature in 2 theatres. So much for that. Mind you, they have the followup Night in the Museum IMAX version running all day long, so we're puzzled at the choice they made of which is more important. I suppose - kids rule during the daytime?

Anyhoo, we'll be sticking around here instead, thankfully the theatre nearby is a very good one - great seating so no big deal in the long run. Just would have been nice to hang out in Manhattan for the day, and possibly see Brenda picking up a few sailors ;)

LOL!!! I think that was my typo. :o *fixed*

Have fun at the movies! I cannot wait to see Star Trek; Jerboa's been teasing me since he's already seen it. :p Perhaps tomorrow!!! :)

I posted a pic here just a few days ago. Is it ok to do it again? I am not sure if it's good forum etiquette to post here since we have the "Sexy avatar" thread in the gallery too.

And I'm not in here regularly, so I often miss to say "thank you" for comments and compliment others. I will not look rude. This thread speed up several pages in just a day.

Marianne...I tell you, your pictures are amazing works of art. Your last one was a show stopper. :) I look forward to seeing each and every one you post.

So...*waits impatiently, tapping her foot*

Heh - I just got "cold feet", lol. I know I'm terrible vain, and since sims rez slower and slower in every upgrade it's mostly pictures of me with a small piece of SL in the background. I envy those who post panoramas of the most pretty and detailed sims. I love my Pixel Barbie doll, but sometimes I just want to take some differnt SL pictures.

/me sets up a nice warm foot bath for Marianne. :D

Please let's not call that thread feminist. I know you mean the thread that is pretending its arguments have some validity by by pretending to be about women's rights. But those of us who actually are feminists find that pretty insulting. Although I didn't read much of it so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Anyway Skell, thanks for the fabulous pictures. You should set up a gallery and sell them.

From: Elora Lunasea
I read through that thread and you couldn't pay me to get involved. The views expressed by the OP are not, what I would call "feminist" in my POV either. She is some sort of extremist, won't quantify of what sort. I consider myself a feminist as well, but I certainly do not put myself in her category :p

That thread is skeery. I had to stop reading it, it was making me crazy. (even more than usual :p)

i don't know which threads are the violence threads and which are the feminist threads, so if someone would define the titles i would appreciate.

and i don't know what a feminist is anyway, but i think of Jane Fonda when i hear that word - that being an political extremist who probably isn't actually supporting the best interests of women, in the end.

i do what i want, when i want and how i want. if that happens to include me being a subordinate on occasion, or giving my all to my man, that's by choice.

It's all balance 3- there is nothing wrong with our roles as we enact them. Last week my husband scubbed the kitchen floor with the new steam thingie- didnt emasculate him one bit and we had a clean floor. Today I am dusting and cleaning- doesn't enslave me- it's our house. Is it forced child labor cause the kid has to take out the trash, feed the dogs and keep his room? No - it's responsibility -

SL and RL are full of choices and directions and we are all free to choose- so far- the OP of that thread and her croanies are just as much an enslaving force as that that they decry- they r forcing their choice upon the community.

Re feminism: It means that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men and men should have the same rights and opportunities as women. You aren't required to be angry at anyone. In fact it's better not to be. Although I was around when many things were vexing.

I have been told that I could not vote because the permanent residence of my then husband (a non U.S. citizen) was outside the U.S.. This rule applied to wives, not husbands.

I have been told that I would not be considered for a job for which I was well qualified because they did not hire females.

I have seen many help wanted ads which blatantly stated that the salaries offered would be different for men than women - for the same job.

I have been in many social situations where the men talked and the women listened. And if a woman did talk everyone pretty much ignored her.

I have known many women who invariably dropped what they were doing to cook meals for their men whenever they came home. Even if the men had been out playing all day while the woman worked.

I have known many men who expected any woman to defer to them in almost all situations and many women who did.

I was in the maternity ward with a woman who was there for bed rest until the baby came. Her husband checked her out so she could take care of the 5 small kids at home until the baby came. She didn't want to go but she may not have mentioned that to anyone but me. (edited to add: She wanted a tubal ligation but the hospital wouldn't do it without her husband's permission - and he said no.)

And so on.

People who don't want to restrict themselves or others to predetermined roles I would consider to be feminists.

Feminist men hold doors open for women - and feminist women are gracious about it. If they get there first, feminist women hold doors open for men and feminist men are gracious about that.

No one is required to lose their femininity or masculinity, but those who find themselves to be other than typically masculine or feminine deserve the same respect as anyone else.

Ooooh, lovely pic, Lula. I'm so glad you and JamesMichael had a good evening last night. Both of you look marvelous. :)

Where is that, by the way? That's a huge dancefloor.

He was truly a gentleman. We were at Franks Place I believe. (Thanks to all who commented on the photo.) :)

For those of us in The States, have a safe and enjoyable Holiday weekend, but remember it is about more than cookouts and shopping. As imperfect as it is, we live in a wonderful country, one that many have sacrificed so much for. If there is any type of event near you this weekend, be it a parade, wreath laying, or other ceremony, try to find time to go. If not, then when you open that first beer at the barbecue, take a moment to say "Thank You".

Amen. Thank you all.

From: Brenda Connolly
*Grabs some of the bread and a coffee to go as she heads out to catch the train to The City, where she will thank a sailor or two for their service. :p

I wish I could be there with you to thank a certain sailor but he is headed to the fifth and sixth fleet areas of operation. So Brenda, thank as many sailors as you can for me as well!

Thank you Kaimi- that seems quite acceptable- the last part where u say what shd be- in other words just be good to each other and live and let live. OK, I can be that sort of feminist- but if it's ok, I will continue to bring and take the dinner plates away and wait on him :) - I like it and it get's the lawn mowed.
