this is the third attempt: they are trying to convince me to go on an Alaskan cruise next fall. i won't have to pay a dime, but i don't think i can do it. i r a-scared.

plus, i would mush rather vacation in a warm climate, not one where i'm required to wear a down jacket and ear muffs just to step outside.

One of my dream vacations. And free no less? I'm completely jealous!

Suck it up 3! I bet once you were sitting out on a balcony, wrapped up in a warm blankie, sipping a hot drink and watching icebergs float by, all those worries would float by too :)

I'll bet she'll even begin to sing "Nearer My God To Thee".

If I had a couple of months and the money, I would like to visit Alaska in the following way. A leisurely Amtrak across country, maybe to San Diego. After a few days there, renting a car, and driving up the coast to Seattle say and catch the cruise ship to Alaska. One Way. From Alaska, driving into Canada to catch another train to say Ottawa or Toronto, then flying home.

I only sort of like cruises -- I do not like being "at sea" very much. The last cruise we took was a Southern Carrib one that brought us to a new port every morning, leaving each evening for the next island. The only full day at sea was the last one where we had to sail all the way back up to the point of departure.

Or the theme from "Titanic" as the ship approaches the icebergs.

Yea, don't enjoy that type of itinary either, I've done those. Too much bouncing around to really get a feel of where you are, not enough time to relax. This Bermuda one is 7 days total, with 2 full days at sea, then 3 days in port, and then another at sea. Plus, leaving from NYC which is perfect for us; just a quick cab ride back and forth from home :)

You couldn't pay me enough to vacation at sea in Alaska. If I wanted to freeze my ass off, I'd stay home.

Pssst... the string quartet on the Titanic played "Nearer My God to Thee" as the ship was sinking...

Elora, have a great time! I've never been on a cruise either, so send us lots of details!

Boomer got his first Bath/Shampoo/Tick inspection the other night. It was a very exhausting experience....for both of us.

It was more being in the tub, than the water itself that annoyed him.

Wonderful puppy pics, Brenda. Keep taking lots...they grow up even faster than kids.

Cruises...love 'em. I do agree that they don't stay long enough in one place, though. You only get a snapshot of the destination, then rush off to the next one. I actually like the "at sea" days better than the port days.

I'd like to do a combined cruise/hotel stay of some sort. Take the boat to your Exotic Island of Choice, then stay there for four or five days, get back on the boat (or another one) and sail home. Or have the ship stay in port for several days and be your hotel.

Strip down. Put doggie in people bathtub. Get in tub with doggie.

Pet doggie, give him a treat. Let him get used to the tub. It will be easier, since Mommy is in there too.

Run water, set to lukewarm temperature. Turn on shower.

Wet doggie down. Wet Mommy down.

Shampoo Mommy, rinse. Shampoo doggie, rinse.

Turn off water, towel off doggie. Towel off Mommy. Towel off Mommy again when doggie shakes. Repeat as needed.

Exit tub, establish firm footing. Hoist out doggie.

Give doggie another treat. Pour Mommy a large treat. Go sit by fire with doggie to finish drying out.

Ghosty is the blog king. He'll be boring, ummm, I mean entertaining everyone with many photos and quips as each day goes by, I'm sure. The boat has an internet cafe :p

I didn't word that too well. Actually compared to most cruises, I preferred that one because we were not "at sea" very much at all. I loved being on a new island every morning.

This type of schedule would be good too.

I just hated the typical Carrib or Mexico ones that had you at sea for a day or two, then 1/2 - 1 day at port and then another day or two at sea and another less than full day at port. Those have too much sea time for my taste and too little time in any port.

This is exactly what I do. At first they hated HATED baths but now every time I take my own human bath, they both stand there looking wistful. Plus, since Boomer's a lab, he'll get to like water more as he gets older.

@ Brenda - Boomer looks utterly bushed in the 2nd photo. That bath must have taken a lot out of him (tho sounds like more out of you lol).
