Wow- CX! Sorry for your weather woes and glad you guys made it unscathed. And the season is just around the corner now - We are already putting in hurricane supplies.

CX, glad to hear you're safe and sound! Having lived once in an area where hurricanes/tornados were prevalent (Florida), I know how unsettling that can be.
Hope your day keeps getting better! _____________________

I was at Windows on the World on the evening of September 10, 2001.. Max, that is damn creepy. Were you in the city the next day too? Were you able to get back home, or when? We watched everything happening from our office a bit further uptown, I started my day walking into the subway at the WTC to get to work. I can't imagine what you would be thinking knowing you were just up there having dinner the night before ![]() _____________________

People of often lump us in with OS *sighs* I don't see why you can't too. You know we have a lot different culture from them. Australians actually come to NZ for their holidays too ![]() Oh, I know the Enzedders are a different bunch with a different (beautiful!) country. It's just that you're so close to Oz, I figured I could get two for the price of one pick. That way I can visit you more sheeply. _____________________

... sleep with a Mountie... Did the Canadian Tourist Bureau actually approve that message? If so, I bow in their general direction. I've heard it said the usual ratio is one riot, one Mountie. I could go for a man like that... _____________________

ohh!!! Travel - I wanna' go!! Greece Italy France Australia and New Zealand both Japan /looks up at the doorknob...looks back down at his paws...lacking thumbs... Uhm...can someone open the door for me first? Doorknobs don't stop my Labrador retriever...why should they be a problem for a clever kitty such as yourself? /me takes pity on you and fetches down the cat carrier, a collar and jeweled lead, travel dishes, water bottle, bag of kitty litter, portable litter box, and datnip mouse. Picks up load, Joseph, and small personal overnight bag. Turns toward door. Dang it. Now *I'M* all out of thumbs. Can't we just teleport instead? _____________________

CX, I'm so glad you got through the storm OK. It seems to be the season for unseasonable weather, everywhere!

It's "One Riot, One Ranger" - as in Texas Rangers- but I am sure it will work for Mounties too

We watched everything happening from our office a bit further uptown, I started my day walking into the subway at the WTC to get to work. I can't imagine what you would be thinking knowing you were just up there having dinner the night before ![]() No, I was just there for a couple of drinks, before hot-footing it to JFK for the last flight to London. Arrived at Heathrow next morning, straight to work, and just after lunch, it all happened. I spent the rest of the afternoon trying and mostly failing to make contact with colleagues who I'd seen the night before and were based a couple of blocks away on Broadway. Thankfully, all were safe and sound (apart from one dozy mare who fell off her stiletto and knackered her ankle - and had to be carried down 50 flights of stairs as the office was being evacuated...). Like everyone else, I was utterly stunned by the events of that day... but getting my head round the fact that I was at the top of one of those towers a matter of hours beforehand, was difficult. _____________________

/me thoughtfully puts Texas on her list of foreign countries to visit. Texas is beautiful and so varied- from big city to little towns and open spaces. If I moved I would head out that way or maybe Arizona- always wanted to see Arco Santi. _____________________

I have been all over Texas. Always found friendly happy people. I lived in Houston for six months and that was a blast as well except for the Traffic. Dallas / Ft. Worth is very confusing with all the little "towns".
There is a beautiful lake near Del Rio (Judge Roy Bean fame), the Lake in Austin is awesome. San Marcos with the worlds shortest river. Big Bend National Park. On and on it is just an awesome place. "CX" _____________________

When the Bluebells are in bloom and you see an ocean of them in the distance - or when cotton covers the fields in places as far as you can see.
...On the other hand stainless steel toilets in the travel plazas are not real welcoming in the winter! Brrr... _____________________

Good Morning everyone.
First CX thank goodness you made it through the storm. I hope all your neighbors are also ok. Although I lived in Kansas for eight years (where I did see baseball sized hail once), the worst storm of my life was in Houston. I was with my then 10 year old son and Beast, the dog. The noise was deafening and all we could see through the windows (which we were staying back from) was water and green leaves that had been torn off and sent swirling in the wind. I'm not a big fan of flying either. My longest trip was LAX to Heathrow, 10 of the longest hours of my life. I'm only a bit taller than the average woman but I always feel very cramped. My poor husband is a foot taller than I am. But even though I hate the journey the list of places I'd like to visit is quite long. _____________________

/me thoughtfully puts Texas on her list of foreign countries to visit. Lindal, this called to mind an amusing, yet distressing, story from my childhood. A friend's father was a U.S. congressman representing a district in Texas. The congressman's office received countless phone calls and letters (from U.S. citizens) in which the congressman was asked if: a) they spoke English in Texas, and/or b) if a visa was needed to visit Texas. |

I could go for a man like that... 3 guys in a bar room scuffle counts as a riot in Canada. Everyone is so damn nice! Well .... unless you put a Dallas Stars sticker one thier Edmenton Oilers stanley cup souviner. Gee, no sense of humor at all. I almost got deported over that. |
