No stories. Most of the trees on my property are what we call "water" oaks. They are low grade oak trees that typically live in the swamps and only survive 30 to 50 years. They typically rot from the inside out as they age.
When I purchased my home the first thing we did was cut down and sell all of the pine trees. We sold 43 trees and it took us 18 months to clean up the property after. Pine trees are well known for snapping off at the top or just falling on your house. Several nieghbors and friends had pine trees in their house after Katrina. Our nieghboring parish (county) has prohibited the cutting of any trees without a special permit. They suffered the most property damage after Katrina. I am all for keeping up the environment and local beauty but not at the expence of human safety and common sense. I do have a few Live Oaks, in the south they are evergreen and never completely loose thier leaves. The famous Oak Alley plantation has two rows of these trees that were planted in the 1800s after the plantation was built. My live oaks are very young probably only 75 to 100 years old. Thank you Maureen!! Great recap. ![]() I am going back to bed now. Keep it down in here! ![]() ohhhh no...you just *had* to say "keep it down", didn't you? I now feel compelled to make a lot of noise... /me turns up the volume on the stereo, and begins to sing "Feelings" off-key. Hey - are those Rioko's boots? Let's see if they fit. Yes, they do. Oooh, they make such a great noise while dancing on the coffee table... OK, being quiet now. ssshhh! Rioko's is sleeping, for heaven's sake. ![]() |

That picture is wild lined up nice and tall too. It almost looks like the soldiers are standing on each other.
CX that sounds pretty smart to get your place ready w/cutting down the trees before hand. I know I was upset when they cut down alot of Banyan & Ficus trees here. However if they are going to land on you they must go. ![]() I do love those Oaks gave me a big smile, ty. Ooh bye Mac come back soon. _____________________

Surely this thread has outgrown this forum and needs a whole website to itself!

Surely this thread has outgrown this forum and needs a whole website to itself! Almost 6000 posts! I recall early on someone saying something about a thread somewhere with like 10k posts... does not seem so far fetched now, does it? _____________________

Fried Egg Friday
05-16-2008 06:27
Mornin' y'all and happy Friday. Breakfast finds it's way to the table, fried eggs, several strips of thick cut maple cured bacon, homemade waffles with _real_ butter and raspberry syrup, and a steaming hot cup of coffee so strong the aroma alone peels the paint off your walls. Nothing beats the flavor of eggs fried in bacon grease, then heavily peppered with fresh coarse ground black pepper, a dash of salt, and and a liberal sprinkling of tobasco sauce.

I had the country boy breakfast, Eggs, Bacon, Grits and a Biscuit. I was up too early for Garrett's wonderful breakfast. Hold the tabasco and salt for me sweetie. "CX" _____________________

Huh? A thread has been closed. The sky is falling! Hooray! ![]() Add: --- but not this one. This thread works very well to keep noise out of most of the other threads. _____________________
