Hmmm.... I've always promounced it the way I have phoneticized it here. I suppose it is a region/dialect variation here in 2008 English? ... or somthing.. I dunno.

If my phoneticism is incorrect, that would invalidate my message board avatar image there on the left - which would be very upsetting to me.

Sorry, i guess the joke was to obscure.

The Zerg are one of the sides in a popular stratagy game call Starcraft. They are known for having cheap but low quality troops. As a result, it is common practice to call the tactic of throwing wave after wave of poor to average troops at a target "zerging." Brute force through numbers. Typical of the Soviet and Russian armies in WWII and early.

So, ZERK-zees (which is just below the pic) made me think of ZERG-zees.

It's not funny when you explain it. but then it was probably not funny anyway :p

Wouldn't that be "ZERG-zees?"

(you may need view sigs turned on to get that one)

I have always pronounced it ZERK. As in the grease fitting that is in X's avatar photo.

This is the thread that keeps on giving. We shall never be bored of it. :D

@ Claire - I am nothing if not considerate. :D I was very quiet and gentle as possible. Thanks for another pick me up. And erm.. yeah, that is the only reason your neck is sore. *whistles*

@ Lindal - Yes.. I have had comcast before. The problem with AT&T is that I live *just* on the outskirt of where they provide. I get really slow connections even though I pay for the premium service. My parents have a slow option for comcast and they load pages faster. I am going to try it. If they throttle me I still have my AT&T modem. :)

@ The Ladies - Maureen told me about the other thread where you rate us as food. You flatter me. :o You all rock!!

@ AT&T - HA HA you fools still forgot to turn off my net.

There once was a lass named Claire
whose temper was really out there
grasped by the throat
the villian thus choked
and the world reclaimed some valuable air.

Thanks bro. I have used them for about 9 months. For general browsing it may be OK if you are close enough to a switch. I am just too far out to get anything beyond 2mbsish.

i guess i missed that we were posting our breakfast choice. while biscuits with sausage gravy sounds super good, i didn't have the makings for that and had to settle for an spicey atomic dog on a whole wheat bun.

i LOVE scrambled eggs with cheese on a piece of toast, slices of bacon, ketchup and tobasco... close it all up and bite! MMMM MMMM MMMM!!!

Thanks 3Ring - all is well in RL. I only lost two trees. I have lots of clean up to do but we are accustomed to it. I have a chainsaw, tractor and all the other neccessary tools.

That sounds absolutely heavenly! Never underestimate the power of Tobasco sauce in the breakfast field folks.

Reminds me of a story.. when I was about 9 my brother was in the kitchen pouring glasses of O.J. I was under the bar on the opposite side and when he would sit it down and walk to make something else I would reach up and drink the O.J. This happened about 3 times (him of course knowing what was going on.) The third time however he poured a ton of Tobasco sauce into the O.J.

My mouth burned for the better part of the day. :o

Xerxes: "... akin to being unfamiliar with sensations such as swallowing drain cleaner or being attacked by a polar bear."

Your chances of experiencing the latter have just improved. Polar bears have been granted the status of "threatened species". If one attacks you, you are now required to stand still and let it kill and eat you.

Why anyone thinks polar bears need protection is beyond me. Consider the typical adult polar bear: a 12-foot long, 3,000 pound monster with razor sharp talons and fangs. This creature is covered in fur too dense to penetrate unless you happen to have a high powered rifle or a very long, sharp spear handy. He has a temper shorter than the average five year old's attention span, the disposition of a dyspeptic hungover judge, and he enjoys temperatures that tend to make moving machinery fail. He likes long swims in subzero salt water, and is fond of ambushing seals when they poke their noses up a hole in the ice to breathe. He is cunning, opportunistic and flexible...if he can't get seal, he'll raid dumpsters or slaughter sled dogs and other domestic animals. Wildlife photographers on polar bear assignments get danger pay and use long lenses and protective cages and partners armed with tranquilizer guns.

If this citizen isn't capable of defending himself against all comers, I don't know who is.

Lin,

Too true reminds me of a story.

My friend was visiting a National Park in the west. They were required to attend orientation on how to not to interact with wild animals in the park.

The ranger explained that they should wear a bell on the outside of thier clothing so they do not "surprise" a bear. A brown bear hearing the bell will run away. Also if the bear does charge pepper spray will deter them from attacking. Above all they should watch for fresh bear spore and avoid Grizzly bears at all costs.

The ranger explained the size and shape of brown bear spore and that it will smell like berries and nuts.

My friend raised his hand and asked, "What does Grizzly bear spore look and smell like?"

The ranger answered, "It is the same except it smells like pepper and has little bells in it."
