From: Elora Lunasea Things I hate about flying: Reminds me of this letter I read once online, from a passenger describing the experience of having a seat directly across from the lavatory: http://www.snopes.com/travel/airline/seat29e.asp From: someone All my senses are being tortured simultaneously. It's difficult to say what the worst part about sitting in 29E really is? Is it the stench of the sanitation fluid that's blown all over my body every 60 seconds when the door opens? Is it the wooosh of the constant flushing? Or is it the passengers asses that seem to fit into my personal space like a pornographic jig-saw puzzel?

From: Elora Lunasea Exactly. /me ponders how long it will take to convince my doctor I need a prescription for heavy duty sleeping pills? Use a lil eyemake up and create some serious dark circles under your eyes and tell your doctor you haven't slept in like two weeks. He's sure to cave in. And for an added bonus, put some mentholatum under your eyes so you start crying.... From: Trout Recreant LAX to Dusseldorf was my longest. I was ready to die half way there.
I got a free upgrade to 1st class once on a flight from Seattle to Miami. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. No such luck on the way back, so I sat with the cattle in regular class. It's much worse back there after you know what 1st class is like. Kind of goes hand in hand with what Elora was saying....I would need a serious handful of vallum and perhaps a bottle of wine to down them with to make a trip like this!

LOL, Dakota. I remember that letter! For several years, I was fortunate enough to work for 5 weeks each summer in Italy and Germany. Those transatlantic flights were killers, but nothing, I know, like flights to/from Asia or to/from Australia/New Zealand.

I would say I love to fly, except last time I flew was....9 years ago? from a kid's perspective. 2 hours on a plane, at 4am. I slept. I've never been on a long flight, and I don't really remember much about any flights I've been on.

I love flying when I get the chance. Its the whole process before and after you get on/off the plane that I detest.

Five countries I'd love to visit, I'm sure I could think of many more, but these at the top of my head,
Tanzania Argentina (Costa Rica, too, can't pick) Burma (Myanmar) Maybe not now... but later New Zealand India
And you?

From: Lindal Kidd That one will suck you in for weeks and weeks until you've read the whole dang thing.
Absolutely 100% worth it. I loved Cryptonomicon, so figured this one would be good too. Thanks for the critique! I'd hate to get 300 pages into it and realize it was pointless (sort of like The Island of The Day Before by Umberto Eco. I wanted to chew off my little toe just to escape from that book.)

From: Elora Lunasea Things I hate about flying: Packing Standing on line to show my proof of person/passport Customs Having to take off my shoes Having my expensive face cream be confiscated because it's 1/2 oz over the limit Flight delays Crappy food Sitting on the tarmack for no damn good reason Small bathrooms & nobody can seem to remember to wipe up after themselves Screaming babies People snapping gum in my ear Can't stretch out my legs Too cold Too hot Tiny pillows that are worthless 3rd rate movies at best Even worse filler tv shows Dry air People that won't shut up when it's an overnight flight Drunk people Basically I'm annoyed by the whole thing. Except I love to travel too much so I just suck it up and try and keep my trap shut as much as possible Things I love about flying: Valium

From: Oryx Tempel Russia (oooh vodka and cool churches!) I kept reading 'cool crutches' for some reason. I thought, WTH do Russian crutches look like? How weird is Oryx... Sorry. Ya, the Churches must be amazing. @Claire, as much as I love - no, adore! - my home country, don't waste a Trip Wish on here.
