I am replying here merely to show the variance present in Eastern philosophies.

In contrast, I believe the world itself is a very real thing. I side with Descartes; I think, therefore I am. I know I am real because I have the ability to imagine what is not real, and what cannot be real, in comparison to what I perceive as my environment.

Like Kaimi, I've found what I consider the right path for myself. I believe in the reality of the physical universe, while she believe this to be an illusion. Both points of view have merits and shortcomings, but for each of us, both is correct.

Hinduism doesn't really have "tenets". In fact, it's safe to say that if you claim to be a Hindu, you are one. :) I happen to ascribe to reincarnation, karma, and am a follower of Vishnu while recognizing all the Hindu gods are representations of one uniting spirit; other Hindus may have very different beliefs. I am reading the Rg Veda, and recognize the Bhagavad Gita as the greatest Veda, but other people may have differing opinions and that's perfectly OK too.

"Hindu" really only means the various beliefs, religions and philosophies found in India.
Namaste, Ghosty.

Forgive me Kaimi- I am trying to understand- are you saying that one of the tenets of the Hindu faith is that this around us- the visible world- is not real?

A Dream Within A Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

It can be. It's ok if it's a high 3 headed to 4, but if it's a low 3 on a path to 2.........
I've been at a couple of those that are closer to the 2, or maybe really were a 2 and someone just lied.

I went exploring earlier today. The sculpture garden at Blackwater was a nice place to roam although I felt like someone was watching me. :)

So there's sculpture garden in Blackwater, you say? Doesn't anyone realize I'm trying to whittle down my "must see list" -- not increase it by leaps and bounds??? :p

Good morning thread dwellers and lurkers. :)

@Lula - erm...I don't know how to tell you this..but...erm... Don't.Turn.Around. Just walk..very slowly away....

If anyone needs any more snow, I'd be glad to send some your way. We're supposed to get another 10-15 inches Wednesday into Thursday.

Ok...time for *real* work.

/me sighs and reluctantly places his nose on the grindstone.

Morning Threadland!

Damien & Gabriele - very nice thank you.

Kaimi & Ghosty - Interesting- I will admit I am rather grounded and can go with Descartes & Ghosty on the reality thing - but am of course a fan of live and let live- if these things makes sense to one and are a comfort then it makes me happy m friends have found their path.
And as for namaste :) I have always liked that - and of course, me being me- cannot pass up a chance at Heinlein. I grok, you grok, and all that groks is god :)

i'm one of those freaks who is a whiz with numbers, in general. not like a genius, but i just 'get it'. also, please never EVER tell me your phone number. it is really annoying to be a walking phone book for everyone i know. (it used to be cool, now i lie and say i don't remember cuz i'm tired of giving out phone numbers. use the phone book lazy fukks, dammit! )

Ever find yourself doing sequences on license plates as you are driving? Like, what a coincidence, if you subtract the second from the left number from the next to last, all the numbers would then be a sequence. Or if you add the first two numbers, it equals the sum of the last four.

Then I tell my wife how easy it is to remember that license plate since it is almost a sequence of numbers if..., and she has learned this little snort that combines disgust and disbelief in equal amounts.

Would you care to read this pamphlet?

Could you read it to me? And, by the way, I have to go let the dogs out, but feel free to keep reading. I'll be back in a thrice.

Bears are BIG!

You only need a good head shot. Unfortunately, getting a good head shot from inside a tent requires a certain degree of risk, but put that to the back of your mind.

It will be the last thing the bear eats that way.

Not a fan of adding up LP numbers but am a fan of LP sayings.

Saw one the other afternoon coming home from work. A guy driving and LP had "SHEMAN" :p

One of the few times I have been truly envious of youth; A few years ago in State College, PA, 3 young blond girls in a mustang convertible with the LP "TK ITOFF". sigh...............
