Okay...erm...

How about them Cardinals? :D

No ill feelings towards any Steeler fans.

I grew up in Houston watching the Oilers. Way too many times when it looked like the Oilers might be going somewhere the Steelers put an end to that. Then to make matters worse if the weren't beating the Oilers they were beating the Cowboys.

I can root for the Cards but I'm afraid the Steelers might wreck that too.

There's been a lot of talk about the weather today. The forecast says we may even get some of Honeybear's freezing rain here in Houston.

I can't complain about though. One of the nice things about living in the south is that you get some beautiful weather at times during the winter.

But why does it always have to work like the past few days.

Friday: Perfect, mid 70's, blue skies and sunshine.

Sat: Cold, windy, grey coulds, no sun.

Sun: Cold, windy, grey coulds, no sun.

Mon & Tues: Perfect again.

I know I shouldn't complain, but certainly lousy timing.

Stay safe and warm everyone!

Hasn't this weather been crazy, Tex??

I'm heading home at noon to cozy up to an ice pack to help my back, and to make sure that I don't end up a statistic when everyone else gets insane as the storm hits.

Last night, it took me 15 extra minutes to get home because it was drizzling and everyone wanted to drive 30mph on the freeway....in the fast lane. Just as dangerous as driving 80 in bad weather, in my opinion.

You were derogatory to one person, which is never acceptable in RA. This particular thread is everyone's escape from the kind of stuff that gives one a headache in other threads...so far, sadly, this thread is giving me a headache.

Are you always rude to everyone?

In fact, Askandi, please don't answer. I think Ignore is the best place for you right now.
I defended someone with a sense of humour from someone who didnt and is the thread now going to be renamed the Humourless Thread.

Every time three drops of rain fall here - onto roads that are already oily from months of no rain - there are a ton of accidents within minutes as people who aren't used to weather just slide out of control.

Take care of that back, Honey. I hope it's all better very soon.

You may already know this song, but in case you don't check this out.

"A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request" by Steve Goodman

Goodman is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. He's gone now. If I remember correctly I think he passed away shortly before the Cubbies made the playoffs for the first time in many years.

Forgive me Kaimi- I am trying to understand- are you saying that one of the tenets of the Hindu faith is that this around us- the visible world- is not real?

Not to drag out a dead topic, but I once read a quite amazing book on Hindu logic. It presented this view of maya (illusion): the idea is NOT that this world isn't real. The illusion is the belief that this world is the whole thing.

I don't know whether that gives the same punch that it gave me, but I had an eye-opening flash when I read it. I should have written down the exact words somewhere.

Not to trivialize it, but I had a similar intellectual satisfaction when someone asked Doctor Who what he believed about God, the afterlife, etc., and he replied, "What do I believe? I believe that I haven't seen everything. That's what I believe."

I don't believe anything outside my head. The real world is just like SL. You cant trust anything you see or hear. Thats why religion is nonsense because you cant communicate it accurately in words or pictures so belief has to stay inside your own head.

Here's one more Goodman song for you Jerboa. It's a great if somewhat dated song. I particularly love the amount of heart and energy he puts into this performance.

My commute this morning was three hours.

(growls to self, something about idiotic morons who have no idea or business being outside when it snows; bloody stupid bloody morons; can't imagine how I'd respond if one of those doofus' had crashed into me or something. What's with bloody turning on your hazard lights in the middle of the road, a one lane road and just sitting there? stupid bloody . . . "like oh my gooodd there's white stuff out there! I will sit here until it all melts . . "; course then you get the idiots that go 2 miles per hour up the hill, driving too slow to keep the momentum going and slide off the road. . .(or the idiots that drive too fast, but there weren't any this time, everyone else was driving too slowly for those idiots to have any room to drive too fast))

/me hugs Lexxi

Yes, this area is full of crazies when the snow comes out to play!! One flake, and many people forget everything they learned about driving in hazardous conditions. I also attribute it to the fact that we don't get too much snow...and many people living here hail from environs where snow has never been seen.

What I didn't mention was some asshat rear-ended me yesterday. Not enough to do any damage to my car...just enough to give me whiplash. *sighs*

Stop and go traffic, and I guess he didn't think I was really going to stop.

QFT. I love Dr. Who and I'd say he got it exactly right here. It seems to me that if there is a supreme being s/he doesn't even want us all to experience or explain our earthly lives in the same way. The best most of us can do is try to find a belief system that gets us through the day. In mine, once we've worked through all our karma and realized the true nature of God we don't need to be in human bodies on planet Earth any more.
