That's all well and good and the Golden Rule is a great one- it's the Supreme Deity or Deities that I find a bit hard to accept. Hubris perhaps, but one cannot force oneself to believe in something and it just doesn't seem logical to me.

Ahh, that's the beauty of it. Your view is also correct. :D

Prefer the Golden un-rule: Do not do unto others what you would not want done to you.

Gets rid of the whole idea of doing unto others from the get-go. Even then, still has one weakness (but still a good starting point, like "First, do no harm.";): It is surprising what some people think other people would enjoy having done to them, especially if it includes saving their soul.

Wise words- i rather have my soul exactly where it is and its present condition- assuming i have one of course.

I wish I had time to go through alllllllll the posts here but omg I'd need a week, minimum. To bad I didn't get into it when it started. I'm guessing thus far from what little I have read its about, the different beliefs of religions and each interpretation of the "big bang" more or less?

(danger...geek mode on!)
In part Amara, I think it depends too on whether you take a positivist or interpretive view on the various myths. Do you look at a myth literally? See that it cannot have possibly been that way, and reject it as silly and false? Or do you view the myth as allegorical? And there-in see something hidden both true and profound?

For a biblical example...are Jacob's sons viewed as actual people? Or as an allegory for the relationships between the early tribes of Isreal? Is Levi the patron of the Levites? Or is he the embodiment of their early history?

It isn't an easy question to answer. And the answer is certainly different for each.
(danger passed...geek mode off...)

And there are those that see some myths as an literal attempt to explain things seen, before their science could explain it. Sometimes in Parabola magazine you see someone take that approach, which sort of requires first interpretation then deconstruction, or is it the other way around? Certainly the flood myths COULD fall into this category, as one example.

Oh heck it's about that and hunky men and luscious women and grief attacks and falling in love and loosing people and finding lost invisible prims and goofy jokes and breakfast and - hey- it's about life. Welcome, pull up a chair - Brenda will be along with your duct tape eventually. You have ventured forth- you can never leave :D....

I didn't really mean to target the bible specifically. But to highlight the two main ways to approach any of the stories.

This thread is about anything and everything. Search on nearly any topic and this thread will come up in the results. You happened to pop in during one of the religious discussions.

ETA: or what Key and Amara said. :p

It's the only one i could speak of with any authority since it is the only one i have read cover to cover on more than one occasion.

Another thing: if you take Intelligent Design to its logical conclusion, you end up a Hindu.

I fail to see that logic. You do realize that atheism also exists in Hinduism?

Does anybody know where I can find some education (be it a tutorial or perhaps just samples) of how to cut up the basic prims in different ways? I mean the building block prims (cube, sphere, torus, cylinder, and so on) and the various ways they can be manipulated in the edit window.

I've spent a bunch of time experimenting, but I have to believe there's knowledge out there on how to make "useful" shapes.

I have a neato thing in my workshop you can play with- I will sneak in and add your name to the access list so you can come try it out- its called prim finder- great way to learn the different shapes possible- however if you find an actual answer to your question i would love to know.
