I first heard about SL in the summer of 2006, when there was a feature about it on BBC News, and they created an avatar for the newsreader Natasha Kaplinski. I only got as far as looking at the Second Life website but it stuck in my mind. Then in Sept 2006 I jumped in-world and haven't looked back. I've done quite a bit of building - I'm really taken with the creative side of SL. I'm also a bit of a party animal and maybe I seek a bit of fame too! So I do a fair bit of clubbing. I always look for what's good about SL and I try not to run it down.

My avatar has always been the slim athletic 5'6" brunette with long hair - albeit sometimes in a ponytail or bun. I don't shape-shift or anything. I do have a green plastic bear costume I put on occasionally, but it's still me inside. To prove that it's the normal Conifer inside, I like to take off the bear head and kick it around like a football sometimes.

I came to SL from Britain. I must go back there sometime for a holiday!

LOL - was Natasha, by any chance, a neko? I remember one morning she brought in the contents of her fridge and listed each item... when she reached the "catmilk" the co-presenter started smirking and Natasha said "the cat milk IS NOT for me!", I nearly died of laughter.

Yes, FD, how was your birthday and the cake? :)

It wasn't as miserable as it could be. Usually the joke amongst my sl friends is its the grumpiest day of year few sent me happy grumpday gifts.
I postponed the grumpiness for before and after my birthday been doing quite good job post birthday with grumpiness factor.
Yet the birthday cake which was chocolate with chocolate frosting was very good my rl partner did good job baking it for me.

I don't remember if Natasha was a neko. All I know is that I was prompted to look at SL. I had never been interested in any other virtual worlds or computer games beforehand.

FD my dear- no one can be grumpy thru chocolate cake :)

Love the Tree Man there in you siggy, btw. Come by Terminus sometime and see what I have done- piece by piece, but I think it is looking lovely. The things you and your friends left behind are fantastic and add a distinct quality - do come back and play as much as u like there :) I left the group exactly how you had left it.

There's nothing wrong with grumpiness, as long as you don't try to hide it under a veneer of false cheeriness. The most difficult thing to fake is sincerity . . .

I can laugh but I don't do false veneers of cheerfulness when I am grumbling like Adult version of Eyore from Winnie the Pooh

It could be worse - you could be comparing yourself to Marvin the Paranoid Android.

I was wondering if I could persuade people to offer a short self-description beyond the limited profile details. Maybe you will boo me off the thread for even suggesting this, as perhaps it is convention that probies (I *love* NCIS, especially Caitlin) "earn the right" by lurking, listening and learning, but although I am a very patient person, I also thirst for knowledge - and people are the most interesting things in the universe.

I am not talking about a full CV, but just the things that people think are important about themselves, or what you might think other people might find important.

Of course, please feel free to shoot me down or tell me that this is a recurring thread, or should that be threat?

Pep (I suppose I should start it off myself)

Pep

I don't mind sharing some info. I will be pretty much what I have shareed already. I am a big fan of NCIS, CSI and CSI - Miami. The only reality shows I watch are the motorcycle builder shows, junk yard wars, car shows on Speed and Spike. I don't watch much else on TV expecially "reality" shows. I don't care for football american or othewise. I do enjoy a good baseball game if I am in the audience. (live)

I work for a giant company 25,000+ employess world-wide. I manage records for our projects. I only support 2 out of thousands. I got into SL because my company wanted to use SL for Conferences and Meetings. I stayed on because of all the great people I have met from all over the world. I have been hacking and writing programs on PCs since 1979. I ran a BBS system from my home two years before there was an internet. If you know what SYSOP is you might be close to my age range. In SL I enjoy scripting, building and hanging out with people. I have a pool party once a week at my skybox.

I collect and restore antique Volkswagens, I own and race two Vintage Volkwagen Formula Vees. I also have a small web hosting business and I run five or six websites that include blogs and forums like this one. Since I don't have enough to do already I also have two daughters 24 and 21.

Two years ago I fell from the roof of my barn and broke my hip. So I have two titanium rods and several screws in my right leg. So I walk with a very slight limp sometimes.

May I request clarification? Is that "blowing up" as in explosions, photographs or balloons, in rl and sl?

Good morning all!

Is this sharing day with Pep?

Ok a little bit. I don't mind some details since most people in this thread already know me somewhat.

I'm from the US, New Jersey and I'm 49. I look like a aged version of my avatar, blonde, short, green-eyed. Still relatively cute. Saddly, not as shapely as she is anymore. /me sighs. Meh, we all fall apart. I have no cartlidge in either knee due to two really bad falls in recent years. OUCH. But, I can still whip around NYC, where I work for 20 years, still pretty damn well.

I'm married, and but currently "in flux". No need to go into details. Those here that know me, have them. Those that don't, it's not necessary.

I've been working for the same architectural firm for over 20 years. A testimony to my stability or insanity. Can't say which yet. I'm the office manager/bookkeeper/Jill-Of-All-Trades/Office Wife. I also do some minor design work as far as kitchens, baths and lobbies are concerned. Choosing of tiles, paint, fixtures, lighting, etc. Currently working part-time due to financial issues of the firm, but hoping that will change back to nearly full time shortly.

I'm an avid foodie in every aspect. I get off on greenmarkets, seeing what is fresh and envisioning what I can create once I get home. I have very diverse interests in books, art, film, music and dance. I'm fascinated by medical shows. I like weird and creepy things. I love my family. My siblings are my best friends. I place great value on friendships, but don't make friends easily even though I'm ridiculously outgoing. I wear my heart on my sleeve but keep my senses about me at all times too.

As for SL? I came in just about a year ago (Rez day coming up) as a way to cure boredom after one of my injuries. Didn't work at first. I nearly left because I thought nobody was in it except people washing windows in stores and people camping for money. Then, I found this forum, and the wonderful people in it. The Cartel was formed shortly thereafter, and once I met everyone "in person" it all clicked for me. Friendships began to be formed, a relationship was begun (since ended), land bought, a home made, life inworld really had some meaning. Since then, it continues to grow and develop in even more ways. Sometimes, it's been difficult and heartbreaking, othertimes enlightening and eyeopening. Currently, it's expanding into other possibilities and I'm enjoying it more than ever.

Hehe, there I go again! "Oh no! I've said too much!" (REM)

Thank you Elora (and everyone else who has responded thus far).

And in that last sentence you have communicated even MORE of your character!

I promise to do the "about me" in just a bit. Have a few time critical things to handle first, but wanted to pop in and say:

Good Morning everyone. Gosh, I slept really late two days in a row -- last week must have wiped me out.

@Skell -- thanks for identifying the flower for me.
