All you flower picture folks: My husband took this just the other day when he was in Scotland -- does anyone know what kind of flower it is?

Hey Kaimi, I watched part of the Time Trials today in the Tour de France and I totally thought of you sitting there watching it too.

/FD peeks in from his cloud of grumpiness wave to room some mumbling greetings.
I remember the name of the flower but its not rezzing properly due to the fact everything looks like a phallus to me right now. _____________________

Thanks guys - I got another lie-in this morning because of your efforts. I recognised the flower but didn't have a clue about its name, although when identified I remembered having heard it before as entirely appropriate.
And Amaranthim - did you stay uplate online or cleaning the house? Either way you are neglecting your beauty sleep! Pep (Sleep doesn't make me beautiful, just better tempered) _____________________

Right! I am probably going to put my foot in it now, but you will have to excuse me as I am a complete tyro on this thread.
I have lurked a little, then posted a little, and flirted a little, and tried to make myself useful, and listened to civilised disagreements and tried to gain insights into the personalities of the regulars on this thread. But even though my memory is pretty good (and I *have* read all 25000+ posts!) there are a lot of things unsaid that are assumed or presumed understood. While not wishing to pry into other peoples' lives (first or second) it would enhance my experience (and remove some of my indecision about posting sometimes) if I knew a little more about other current regular (and irregular) threadies. And I can't find a current "Introducing myself" category or thread in the forums - maybe the assumption is that the inworld profile is sufficient, but I think that serves a very different purpose from here, where we are concerned about the Tour de France, parental health and the well being of rl kittens as well as lolcats. I know that the idea of calendar commentaries caused problems, but that has been pretty much resolved now it seems, and I was wondering if I could persuade people to offer a short self-description beyond the limited profile details. Maybe you will boo me off the thread for even suggesting this, as perhaps it is convention that probies (I *love* NCIS, especially Caitlin) "earn the right" by lurking, listening and learning, but although I am a very patient person, I also thirst for knowledge - and people are the most interesting things in the universe. I am not talking about a full CV, but just the things that people think are important about themselves, or what you might think other people might find important. Of course, please feel free to shoot me down or tell me that this is a recurring thread, or should that be threat? Pep (I suppose I should start it off myself) _____________________

Instant synopsis of Pep: A Welshman living in England. I used to be an accountant but I am better now. I was educated in all-male institutions, finishing up at Cambridge (England) but majored in sport and alcohol rather than Economics and Computer Science. I have had six blissful years of marriage, but unfortunately am now headed for my fifteenth anniversary. I adore my 10-y-o daughter and 13-y-o son, less so when they call the police to complain of mental abuse when I lock them out of the home network. I hate the Gor philosophy and love Heinlein's. I am patient, logical, loquacious and honest. I also have excellent taste and an apparent talent for "electronic empathy" which has completely surprised me.

Well, Pep, let's see.
I came to the forums my first week to ask a question, and never left. The very first day in the forums, I was invited to visit the Forum Cartel Hangout, and now it's a home away from home. I usually wear a human avatar, with reddish hair, but enjoy my neko side (see pic), and have been a snow leopard and a white cat. Also a dragon, and a Starbucks cup. And, after yesterday, a chicken. I came to SL after my best friend introduced me to SL, and my brother showed me the ropes (wait...). I don't build or script or have an SL job, but take great pleasure in all that others have created. I personally keep the SL economy afloat with my shameless consumerism. In RL, I live in the Washington, DC area. In SL, I have no idea where my home is located on the map, in relation to anything else. ![]() Happy to help! ![]() |

I first heard about SL in the summer of 2006, when there was a feature about it on BBC News, and they created an avatar for the newsreader Natasha Kaplinski. I only got as far as looking at the Second Life website but it stuck in my mind. Then in Sept 2006 I jumped in-world and haven't looked back. I've done quite a bit of building - I'm really taken with the creative side of SL. I'm also a bit of a party animal and maybe I seek a bit of fame too! So I do a fair bit of clubbing. I always look for what's good about SL and I try not to run it down.
My avatar has always been the slim athletic 5'6" brunette with long hair - albeit sometimes in a ponytail or bun. I don't shape-shift or anything. I do have a green plastic bear costume I put on occasionally, but it's still me inside. To prove that it's the normal Conifer inside, I like to take off the bear head and kick it around like a football sometimes. I came to SL from Britain. I must go back there sometime for a holiday! _____________________

You know.. that's pretty cool - the "A little about me" thing..
I would, but you proly know more about me than you ever wanted to already and these poor people have no choice it seems, but to be dragged merrily through my journeys of self discovery. /me makes popcorn and sits comfy back preparing to read the tales (gosh, I hope folks will contribute- If anyone actually wants me to let me know- Pep has had the dubious thrill of knowing me on and off, for a ridiculously long time by SL measures) _____________________
