Ooh, browser in onrez viewer
10-24-2007 17:23
The onrez viewer has a web browser in it that let's you post in the forums here. I think that is neat. It doesn't do the text cursor properly though , but it has back forward reload and home and an address field. I approve. This is Sue Baskerville's alt, in case that isn't obvious, by the way. In a different thread I'd said that the old SLBoutique shopping site's interface, which evolved into the earlier Onrez site, had gotten a bit fancy and slow and annoying to me. I checked it out yesterday after posting that and it appears that it has changed - it is more basic and faster and non aggravating, more like a real shopping site like Target.com or something. Might be worth checking it out if it has been a while if you tried it. Well I hope they put a text cursor in it before long.

You mean you don't have to have payment info on file or whatever to post in here using the ESC browser???

I was not saying anything about whether you could post without payment info verified.
I don't think I have an account to test it with. My alts without verified payment info are old enough to post.

Ah ok. I'm almost tempted to go and make a new avi with the ESC viewer just to see what it is and isn't capable of. I still think LL should consider a basic, less confusing "newbie browser". I was just talking to a friend in IM that lives in Atlantic Canada and has seen the CSI:NY episode. She'd never seen CSI before so it was totally new to her (much like SL will be to the CSI'ers I suppose). She said it "wasn't too bad" and that they "managed to incorporate the main things about SL atleast - social, appearance, battle, commerce etc" but did "embelish" a lot which I guess is to be expected.

Well, aside from the liberties and artistic license taken with regards to SL I'd have to say that was a pretty sad excuse for a television show overall. Also, I didn't see a single promo for CSI:NY SL during the entire broadcast here in Canada but I might have missed it when I dozed off a couple of times (television does that to me...lol). I'm looking at the "Online now" number and it's showing about 39k - down about 2k from when I checked just before going to waste an hour in front of the bigger glowing box (rather than the one I'm in front of now) but looking at the map for the CSINY 2 sims I count roughly 130 people total on the 4 sims. If that's the same on all the CSI sims (which I doubt) all the regulars logged off and about a 1/3 of the expected people logged in or the regulars are having a party on CBS's dime...lol. I would like to thank CBS and CSI:NY for reminding me once again why I don't watch prime time network television.

Oh, I don't know... what's not to like?
...the superfast response time...
...an avatar who'd been shoe-shopping carrying the shoes in her hands, dropping them when she gets shot by a griefer, and another avatar being able to pick them up and move them and look at them for clues...
...the most trend-setting avatar in SL walking with that stupid jerky newbie walk (in one scene)...
...a "calling card" being something that "avatars use to send messages" (last time I checked, that was for a link to people you'd exchanged Friendship with)...
...teleporting, and taking someone with you AT THE SAME TIME...
...I mean... I thought they captured all the stuff of SL PERFECTLY and got everything EXACTLY RIGHT...

Well the show had a cyber stalker (sort of) in it Plus it had a virus contracted via a calling card (sort of) People might be a little leery with those two things supposedly happening in SL. PS - I want the white rabbit's job.

I don't usually watch it (although I am kind of hooked on the Las Vegas one) but I wanted to see SL on tv, which was kind of cool. They took quite a few liberties with how things work in world, but I could see it would have really slowed things down to make it more realistic - in the show the main character went from not a member to custom avatar in less than a minute. But I think they did convey some of the true flavor of SL. And I went over to their starting point and all the CSI newbies looked a lot better than the ruths at orientation island.
But the main thing is - and it may be just a coincidence - I had way more sales today than I've had any other day since the beginning of summer!

I think CSI Vegas would have been a better setting for SL. The clothes, the bling, there could have been a casino where all you can redeem the chips for are fabulous CSI/CBS/Electric Sheep merchandise, they could have gone out to one of the legal brothels, we could see who matched better, Grissom or Stokes, Dan Linden could guest star as Conrad Eckley...the possibilities are endless.

From: Little Things that Piss Me Off ♫Pick up on a woman, and she takes me home to bed. And we go to take our clothes off, and she starts to... well, you know.♪ ♪I asked her what here name was; she told me it was Venus. I reached down between her legs...♫ It's those little things.... Sorry. I couldn't resist. It seemed, somehow... fitting. Even if it doesn't exactly match.

The US broadcasts included Second Life promos that ran a few times during the show. They must have been edited out of the version you got in Canada.

I threw up in my mouth a lil bit over this show...

God, what a retarded, flash over substance, drama fest. My respect for the art and craft of acting just got sent down the toilet along with the rest of last night's three-bean burrito.
Can anyone say "Jump the shark"?

Can anyone say "Jump the shark"? Uhm, it's Network television. What did you expect, Masterpiece Theatre? Some of this shock, horror and indignation over the show is probably more entertaining than the show was.
