440 sims...

So, are you saying that there are just four sims that are repeated in such a manner as to end up with 440 sims (110 clumps of 4 sims)?

hmm i wonder if that's because they were designing for low-lag (and maybe low prim) so they could fit more avatars in? ESC's other SL game, I am Legend, has great NYC builds ... laglaglag tho ... ![]() I still usually get 10-15 fps in most places though and this was visibly worse, mostly because of the heavy texture use in some areas. |

I've just flown in and had a look. When the island eventually loaded ... the build is decidedly under-impressive. I had to turn my draw distance right down to 100 just to be able to move. It certainly didn't encourage me to want to search out what else was on the island. Maybe die-hard CSI fans will be excited, but this casual one wasn't.
Sim was set with build and scripts allowed... I give it 5 minutes before the first "Jell-owned" or Mario Mosh Pit appears. Broccoli _____________________

ESC has requested 416 regions to handle the traffic Requested? As opposed to paid for? It wouldn't shock me to learn that ESC received a lot of free service in this. From LL's perspective they could justify it by the expectation of lots of new paying customers. But this approach is foolish. LL should work on making the SL experience more fulfilling before they gift their sheep buddies with all this Linden aid in numbers-generating schemes. I'm not talking about bug-fixing, either. I'm not going to bust their chops over bugs. I trust they're working on that. Sl is *ugly*. Spinning, glowing, for-sale ugly. What are these 150,000 new visitors going to do? Just how many sheep-steered properties are there for them to entertain themselves with? They will soon experience the truth of SL. It's for sale. It spins. It glows. It's full of empty malls and clubs. Perhaps LL's resources and sheep's talents would be better spent making pretty places that aren't commercially encumbered. Or if there's going to be steering of the newbies, maybe it should be to existing beautiful places that people created without LL help. You know, the kinds of places that the newbies could hope to create themselves some day. Nah. As long as they sign up and shop at onrez all is well, right? |

Cocoanut: Why wouldn't you work for the ESC? They are a superb company, and have branched out all over the place (even other virtual worlds). If you have a skill-set they need (building, programing, etc), you can make great money--some people even support themselves in RL off of steady ESC work. There are a hella' lot of smart and talented folk at ESC. That's why they are where they are today. They aren't hiring right now though. Boo hoo. Because I'm not interested in bringing in outside corporations to SL. Because I'm always coming at this from the point of view of the indigenous player/resident/shopowner. And because I don't want to work for someone else. Anyway, they would not want to hire me, for reasons having nothing to do with skill-sets. coco _____________________

ESC has the talent and design down pact--I wouldn't just judge a build unless I put myself in their shoes and asked why they made specific choices. It may be--like previously mentioned--that they are trying to keep sim-assets manageable so the lag is low...wait, scratch that, reverse it. _____________________

It may be--like previously mentioned--that they are trying to keep sim-assets manageable so the lag is low...wait, scratch that, reverse it. Definitely not the case... 16 people on this region and I am getting inventory timeout errors trying to rez stuff, 1.6% packet loss, script perf >94,000 and 5.8ms on script time. I don't necessarily blame ESC on that ... seems more down to the SL infrastructure just not being up to the job. Broccoli _____________________

It may be--like previously mentioned--that they are trying to keep sim-assets manageable so the lag is low...wait, scratch that, reverse it. Those aren't design considerations but sloppy mistakes and carelessness. If it was part of an RP resident-build I probably would be impressed that someone spent all that time and effort on it, but ESC are supposed to be a highly skilled, well-paid 3D modellers and it just doesn't show. |

I wandered over to the SL page of the CSI:NY website and giggled a little.
"On October 24, Detective Mac Taylor chased a murderer, Venus, into Second Life. She's on the loose, and her virtual body count is rising. Track her down before she kills again!" Sure what's her last name? I'll just use search! ![]() |

ESC is filled with some of the most skilled citizens in Second Life. Also, they do have integrity...that's an out-and-out slanderish thing to say. I bet you know very little about the company and who works for them...if you did, you certainly wouldn't make such ludicrously ignorant claims. Go to their website..and truly read for once in your life. Visit their builds and then tell me they don't have talent. _____________________

I just came from CSINY North 2. I cruised around the 4 sims a bit. I'm not going to critisize the builds or anything but I do questoin the chances of anyone having a low-lag experience on them.
There were maybe a dozen avatars on one of the sims and it was anything but low-lag. Seems a shame to me that what could potentially be good for SL (influx of new players, maybe boost the economy, etc) will probably alienate most simply because of poor performance. No matter what, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. _____________________

Tube Envy

This sounds like tube envy, the TV tube is jealous of the computer tube
![]() the tv is trying to get people who dont watch tv to kinda care- i dont watch csi since i saw one show where the camera followed the bullet into the person and <<gross gross horror eew>> plus it feels like the society is being exposed to an excessive amount of military/cop shows/court shows. Im tired of tv where somebody needed to call 911. somebody is dead or somebody is being sued or shot the people who think up tv are running out of ideas- they are cursing now and still nobody is watching ![]() |

Integrity? "Sheep Bot"? You are kidding, right? They might have 'some' of the most skilled citizens of SL - but there are many thousands of as - and more - talented people out there quietly getting on and doing their thing. I know enough about them to know I wouldn't work for them if they begged me. Broccoli Just because Stephen King used to kick out mammoth sized novel every year doesn't make him any less respected or talented. Same goes for ESC. It's really easy to sit and point your finger and chastise...just like it's easy for critics to bash a movie--but in the end the best response is, "Oh, Ok...well, let's watch YOUR movie...and we'll...you've never made a movie...how convenient." It's not their fault they were driven by a larger engine than the majority of us. They shouldn't be judged negatively for being run by genuine overachieving visionaries. What they have is a solid goal...and they are achieving that goal...god bless them. And they are employing a lot of cool, talented SL citizens to work with them. What have you got against them anyhow? What negative symptoms are you personally displaying because of ESC? And no...I don't work for them. But I certainly support content creators with as much gusto as them. _____________________
