I tried their version of the SL viewer, it seems easier for the newbie. I did like however how the local chat and the IM's were seperate. Local chat was back to that semi-transparent but seeable old way of SL viewer.

lol...my goodness. ESC is filled with some of the most skilled citizens in Second Life. Also, they do have integrity...that's an out-and-out slanderish thing to say. I bet you know very little about the company and who works for them...if you did, you certainly wouldn't make such ludicrously ignorant claims. Too late for the Sheep dippers. Their chance at good PR with any SL folks has long since left the barn. As for CSI's "game" of solving the murder: it is so confusing and, frankly, tired, that I lost interest after about 4 meaningless TPs to new locations. What is this all about again? Is this some PR stunt for CSI? Really dull. _____________________

And that's good for SL...isn't it? Don't we want more people? _____________________

This sounds like tube envy, the TV tube is jealous of the computer tube ![]() the tv is trying to get people who dont watch tv to kinda care- i dont watch csi since i saw one show where the camera followed the bullet into the person and <<gross gross horror eew>> plus it feels like the society is being exposed to an excessive amount of military/cop shows/court shows. Im tired of tv where somebody needed to call 911. somebody is dead or somebody is being sued or shot the people who think up tv are running out of ideas- they are cursing now and still nobody is watching ![]() I have also cut way back on those type of shows, and I do not think I've seen more than one episode so far this year in that genre (an episode of Bones). I am still recording CSI:NY and NCIS, but I am not sure if I'll ever get around to watching them. The same situation came up relatively recently in my reading of Mysteries. All this interesting detail about certain people and bang, someone is dead. Messed up a great . . oh right it was a mystery book. ![]() _____________________

Yes Business and PR do go together. And to many ESC's poor communication, bad implementation and sheer arrogance during the Sheepbot Affair was a PR bungle that could affect their Business.

::forgives Colette for calling NCIS and Numbers "spin-offs" because she mentioned how cool charlie actually is, and of course, Abbey, my Idol::
personally can't stand either CSI:Miami (too melodramatic and campy), nor CSI:Nyc (just another cop show). I can forgive the designer jeans and stilletos in Vegas (because it IS after all Vegas =), and I love Grissoms' style but does no one think of the the show with quirky fun characters? Crossing Jordan (horrible name)... there isn't a (main) character on there that I can't relate to or like as to the OP.... "Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling....Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave....Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria. " ::knows what Abbey's b-day present from Gibbs was:: _____________________

Well, I'm an SL folk, but I joined last December and have no idea what you're talking about. Evidently there was some sort of debacle that I missed about the search engine/sheep bots ... other than that, what is their sin? I ask because LL has had their share of debacles, and we still seem willing to grant them the right to advertise ... Sheepbot was a bot that would go around SL and record everything in SL and make note of it on a website. I do not recall now, but it might have only noted for sale items. There are some items that are sold with "for sale" as default on (not sure why). People were having strangers pop into their bedrooms and buying their stuff while they were making the beast with two backs. Or something like that. _____________________

Okay we've read the projected numbers all over the place. Let's assume they are correct and we see 150k new users. First off, I think it would be GREAT to get as many people as *possible* into SL. The more the merrier!
The asterisks were around *possible* for a reason. Can the grid handle everyone? And if it can't and crumbles under the pressure, how many of those people who were able to tear themselves away from thier televisions - every bit as hard on them as us non-television regulars tearing ourselves away from our computers - what percentage of this 150k (assuming again that number happens) will stay? I'd LOVE it if SL residents expanded by 300% and stayed that way! But I just don't think it's realistic. Not with the current infrastcucture. Here's my totally-uneducated-pulled-it-out-of-thin-air prediction: IF SL stays up and running and IF the numbers are correct, I would guess maybe 10% of the CSI'ers will stay and become regular residents. If SL falls apart during the "onslaught" I would guess less than 1% of the CSI'ers will stay and you won't see an increase in the concurrent numbers over time because the experience will drive away as many "regular" newbies during the crash and burn and even worse - a few more established and active residents will walk away and it will be a wash. On a side note though, I do give cudos to whoever's idea it was (and quite frankly don't care who is responsible for creating) a simplified viewer. This is something LL should consider making available to all new residents. After they've been on for a while and gotten more comfortable they could just upgrade to the regular client. I've seen a lot of new people walk away from SL because of the decidedly user UN-freindly client. ![]() _____________________

Except the lag isn't particularly low and the entire build is full of texture flickering, seams, overlap, mismatched texture offsets and some things that don't even make sense. Those aren't design considerations but sloppy mistakes and carelessness. If it was part of an RP resident-build I probably would be impressed that someone spent all that time and effort on it, but ESC are supposed to be a highly skilled, well-paid 3D modellers and it just doesn't show. Same thing is true of the Legend game - flickering textures, etc. I put it down to haviing to build something very big very fast. (Or using just not very good builders.) coco _____________________

Don't we want more people? A relationship marketing program with existing customers would be much more in order here, than a splashy PR event that's inappropriate/irrelevant to the SL target market. (If we're in SL, we probably don't watch much TV, ya think? If one likes TV gore like CSI, then show me even more gore in SL, and maybe I'll switch.) _____________________

Same thing is true of the Legend game - flickering textures, etc. The build felt a lot more "immersive" and atmospheric where CSI just felt artifical with awful textures and colours. I didn't notice glitches as much, but that could be because it's much darker there. Ironically my FPS was much higher in the Legend sims than it was in the CSI ones (the sim was rubber banding quite often though). |

There are some items that are sold with "for sale" as default on (not sure why). People were having strangers pop into their bedrooms and buying their stuff while they were making the beast with two backs. Or something like that. In a nutshell, Sheepbot AKA Grid Shepherd wandered about like Lexxi said. catalogueing everything and noting anything marked for sale.. People could then look at the Website and buy the stuff. Problem was many people had stuff set for sale inadvertently, and sometimes expensive items were at ridiculously low prices and they were being bought out from under them. Once this was discovered, it was revealed that this was a program ESC was testing. Some people were furious that this was implemented without any notice, that it was a beta that didn't even work correctly, that ESC was arrogant and not very forthcoming when confronted, and made this an every one is in without notice deal. You had to go to their Island to opt out. I heard some went to Sheep Island only to never be heard from again..... ![]() Anywya this causd a backlash against ESC, LL for being complicant, and sparked a great privacy debate, that ironically had a lot to do in the formation of the Forum Cartel. Search for some of the threads, truly magnificent flame fests. Oh yeah, and Grid Shepherd molested me one night. _____________________

I must not have been around for it altho something tells me I didn't miss much LOL It was just a couple of weeks ago. SUV went into a SL Clone Game to catch a serial killer. I still haven't watched it yet. Maybe I'll do it tonight while CSI: NY is on. _____________________

(Or using just not very good builders.) coco The CSI sims were done in about a month and a half's worth of time, including all the gameplay elements, the new player setups, the shopping sim, etc. All things considered I think they did a fantastic job in the time allotted. Coco, if you're seeing flickering textures on IAL, please do let me know where they are. The only ones I've managed to find are the posters on the fall side of Central Park if you're at a distance away, but if there's more I'm missing I'd be happy to correct them. _____________________
