From: SqueezeOne Pow Can't wait to see you start implementing that policy... You're just projecting now. I understood your views of voice chat just fine. You ended up agreeing with me in the end, anyway. Once I mentioned that you were suddenly on the defensive again! It was pretty entertaining. btw that invitation for debate is still open! this post has a tone that would generally be called smug. The "Cant wait to see you .." would be the childish part. Since I obviously said that I was included. The part where you claim to have understood me - when instead you lumped my opinions in with everyone else's on the same side of the debate - would be condescending part. The claim I agreed with you when I didnt and I got defensive - would be the pompus part. and finally the "Friendly" conclusion -would be the patronizing part. to sum up this is a great post to explain why I dont get along with you You come across to me in many of your posts as a smug, childish, condescending, pompus and patronizing (you can fill in the noun at the end) ------------------------- And I predict you will use my post to accuse me of all the same Becuase you seem to love the "I know you are but what am I?" stuff.

From: SqueezeOne Pow Maybe you are reading different threads than I am. The voice chat debate is proof enough of her unwillingness to be open to new things.
She'll find any excuse to denounce something she doesn't like because it's not enough that she doesn't like it and others do. When all her points have been refuted she resorts to semantics and deflection and ultimately belittlement of the person she can't properly debate with.
That's what I've gathered from seeing her in action anyway. But whatever. I'm glad SOMEONE is on my side. I was beginning to think I was completely alone. Thanks for the support. I completely agree with you by the way.

From: Nina Stepford
ok do you have any sweet words for me now?
I respect everyone's right to their own opinions, as long as they respect mine. I don't know you, and you may be a perfectly lovely person but, whether intentional or not, your arguments have a tendency to take on a hostile tone and you've also been known to resort to name calling, to which I do object. That's the extent of any 'issue' there may be between us. *shrug* From: SqueezeOne Pow Maybe you are reading different threads than I am. The voice chat debate is proof enough of her unwillingness to be open to new things.

That's what I've gathered from seeing her in action anyway. But whatever. My shyness makes me unwilling to try voice as well, but I don't see that automatically making me 'unreasonable.' And, last time I checked, we all denounce things we don't like as much as we're able. I've seen Colette make some smart ass remarks, but it almost sounds as though you're accusing her of deliberate cruelty towards her fellow posters and THAT, I have not seen. Now, it may be that my opinions lie closer to Colette's than yours, but your posts usually come across as more close minded to me. *shrug* Oh, and can you define 'properly debate'? Are you looking for a time clock, set rules, mediators? Because, personally, I generally find a lot of merit in the majority of Colette's arguments, whether I agree with them or not.

From: Michael Bigwig playing the ultimate-sex-connection-game isn't fooling anybody with half a brain. Yes sex sells, I know that...but making blurry connections based on evolution and instinct is far from the point. It's not a blurry connection, it's quite clear and specific. And it is not far from the point, it IS the point. Follow the logic. 1. The primary drive for every living thing is to survive and perpetuate itself. Species that fail to follow this rule become extinct. 2. Man is a living creature. Therefore, the drive to survive and perpetuate ourselves is the most basic part of our nature. Everything else...from wars to morals to poetry to the washcloth on your towel rack...is secondary and can be traced back in one way or another to this one basic characteristic. 3. Anyone who ignores the above facts is going down an evolutionary dead end. (Seen any Shakers lately?) Any MMOG that ignores such a basic part of human nature will, similarly, be supplanted by others that do. Or, if that line of reasoning is too abstract for you, let's just consider this one: 1. The SL sim owner decides whether his land will be PG or Mature rated. 2. The vast majority of sims in SL are rated Mature 3. The reason for that is because a lot more people want to be able to engage in activities that are unsuited for the limitations of PG sims, and the sim owners realize this. 4. As a first approximation, I estimate that if those activities are banned, the grid will diminish to the current crop of PG sims. Disneyland is a great place to take the kids. I don't want to live there.

From: Ann Launay My shyness makes me unwilling to try voice as well, but I don't see that automatically making me 'unreasonable.' No it doesn't...and if she was to say "I just don't like it because (insert personal reason)" then it would have been fine. Instead it was "there will be discrimination against typers by voice people and it will cause a class war". That's a little far reaching to me. From: Ann Launay And, last time I checked, we all denounce things we don't like as much as we're able. I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't. If I don't like it I say why and leave it at that. The term "denounce" isn't just to say "it's not for me" but to say "this is bad all around". The Catholic Church denounces contraception. They say it's "wrong and bad" not "we're just not into that sort of thing". Huge difference! From: Ann Launay I've seen Colette make some smart ass remarks, but it almost sounds as though you're accusing her of deliberate cruelty towards her fellow posters and THAT, I have not seen.
When did I ever say cruelty? You can be closed-minded and elitist without being cruel to someone. I don't get what you're trying to say there... From: Ann Launay Now, it may be that my opinions lie closer to Colette's than yours, but your posts usually come across as more close minded to me. *shrug*
That's because your opinions lie closer to Colette's than mine. From: Ann Launay Oh, and can you define 'properly debate'? Are you looking for a time clock, set rules, mediators?
Proper debate is raising a point or giving opinion, the other raising their point or opinion, then discussion on why each party thinks what they do and/or giving their point of view on why they might think the other's is incorrect or incomplete...all the while staying on subject (which this thread is totally not doing ). From: Ann Launay Because, personally, I generally find a lot of merit in the majority of Colette's arguments, whether I agree with them or not. That's because your opinions lie closer to Colette's...and there's nothing wrong with that!

Disneyland is a great place to take the kids. I don't want to live there. This post is a better way of saying what I was trying to say then I what posted - My opinion is the number one activity in Second Life is Playing House - Sex is part of that - and most industries cater to that. So its all related.

Disneyland is a great place to take the kids. I don't want to live there. That's very blurry. Sorry. I can follow a sequence of events back to the big bang, but why would I? Telling me I'm wearing a designer shirt just to get laid is ludicrous. I'm more than happy with my girlfriend, and am not trying to impress anybody. Not with my shirt, the car that I drive, or the computer that I use. Poppey said it best: I yam what I yam! You can make all the ties to sex you want. That doesn't make SL a "hook up" tool. It's "Your World Your Imagination" not "Your Sex Drive Your Mature Land" *shrugs* In your mentality, SL (and actually ALL of creation) is for sex. That's not quite my point.
