So are there any threads a Res Mod hasn't locked?

I think Strife does an excellent job. But I also agree with one point of the thread you pointed to, Sarah, in that I think it would be good if there were an appeals process for bans. Nobody is always right. I think it would also be interesting to have more transparency around bans ... a list that could be viewed.

On any forum you just have to wade through a lot of words to get to whatever content you may yourself want. On SC that may be a lot of flaming. In this forum, it will be a lot of comedy.

Oh, and just to be clear.

I DO like pie.

Personally, I wish the mod would close more threads. Most of these forums are for residents seeking advice and that can be lost quickly. There are plenty of forums out there for banter and silliness and I love those.

Don't get me wrong, I sometimes participate and don't mind the silliness here at all, just too many times that's all there is and I think it's a shame that real information is hard to find when looking through it all.

Which is why it would be great to have the General forums back...we could spread our mirth there and (attempt, at least) to be serious here.

I am wondering if this is just a thread to promote SC lol

Anyways... I have been there 3 or 4 times tops and it always reminds me of walking into a 4th grade classroom when the teacher stepped out for a moment.

Freedom of speech is great, but to be surrounded by a bunch of people talking shit about everyone else to make themselves feel better is just immature and annoying.

I kinda like it here, less drama and more informational reads... but I do agree, the res MOD('s?) can give it a rest a bit, there are more times than I can count where he has abused his power =/

Maybe I've been in small/medium companies for too long, but it seems to me that closing the General Discussion forum was probably a HUGE deal at the time, I'd bet that it sparked battles within LL as well as SL. If that's the case, re-opening it is almost certainly politically unfeasible. In fact, no one who was involved is even gonna want to talk about it.

However.

Starting a NEW forum for ... oh ... Social Facilitation. Or the Forum Cartel. Or ... well ... something that doesn't sound like General Discussion ... might work.

Why be serious?

Lots of folks help here with useful information and very funny comments... boring meetings go a lot faster when I lurk around here... and I usually learn something in the process :-)

I also see Strife show great restraint... he/she does a great job

/me looks at Ann in her waitress uniform and licks his lips... do I get a piece now?

Bradley, I don't agree with you at all on this. Of the 25 threads currently on the front page, only two have derailed into banter and silliness. Real information is not at all hard to find - at least in my opinion. Now if you are looking for real information in a thread was just a rant or piece of idiocy on its way to locking, then you certainly do have your work cut out for you.

Speaking for the Cartel, we would welcome a "General Discussion" forum. We are up to 56 members now, most of which are active in world. Anyone who wishes to join look us up in group search. We try to have several organized meet ups in world each month and impromptu meetings when ever someone feels like calling one.

I did say ATTEMPT...I'm not sure we're actually capable of being serious for more than a few minutes at a time.

That depends entirely on what exactly it was you wanted a piece of. :p

Well, I'll take a little trolling and "bad words" over power plays and being slapped on the wrist any time. I really don't think it's a big deal if some one does something horrible like OMG! Posts in the wrong topic! With as many as they closed out options are limited. I dislike many of the threads because they don't allow people to respond, and isn't that the whole point of forums? And I think between all of the ass kissing, And I understand the ass kissing when one person holds the power to end You and You can't do a thing about it, You can't argue that it's right for one resident (resident NOT Linden)to have unquestioned forum banning ability. Yes it's probably a thankless job, But it's not something anyone is forced into doing. They choose to do it and continue doing it and like the power for one reason or anouther. Ok I haven't been the nicest person in the world on this subject, So before you argue out the rulings of 1 res mod or 1 thread with me, Just try to understand the main point I have in all of my anti Res Mod talk. It's not right, it's not fair, and it doesn't help any of us to allow 1 resident unquestioned power. Thats it, Thats my only real point here before I get banned.

FYI When You AR a Res Mod, It goes to the Res Mod. See my point here?

Is it just me or is really frustrating when every thread we get into on here is locked for the simplest of reasons. Every thing should have checks and balances but here on the official forums the res mods don't have those checks and balances. I think there is a difference between doing your job and over abusing power. And also, I'd like to invite everyone to check out second citizen forums.http://forums.secondcitizen.com/showthread.php?t=18578 It's filled with some of the finest and most well known second life residents and allows more freedom of speech with less moderator knit picking. The thread I linked above is an excellent post that shows many of the people who migrated there after being banned here. It's just worth a look to see all of the great conversations that come out of people not afraid of breaking the simplest rules and being banned. It's amazing the great topics that come about when you don't have to walk around on your tippy toes in fear a res mod will hear you.

Some of us migrated back here :D Jessica nailed it. Too much drama and all around bull**** at SC. It can stay over there, thank you muchly.

Actually, Strife does a pretty good job, all things considered. It's not easy to be a mod in a busy forum. Mistakes can certainly happen (who doesn't make them from time to time) ... but he usually makes good calls.

I'm only speaking from my experience it attempting to search for an answer to a question rather than ask it first. It's always been futile. I've also been equally frustrated in searching through a forum of answers or debates trying to find all the real answers between all the banter.

Please don't get me wrong. The last thing I'd want is for these forums to be dry and boring. It just seems like lately it's been more silly than educational. I'd like balance. Then again, maybe it's just I'm reading the more ridiculous threads also. I must admit I am both irritated and fascinated by some of the absurd ones that get started.

I do see your point, and I would be surprised if it's unsolvable. Perhaps I'm being naive, but couldn't one, for example, write up a proposal for ... oh, say ... a ResMod review committee of residents that would review ARs against resmods and provide an appeal process for bannings. (Personally, I think decisions on thread locking should be left unreviewed.)

Then get the proposal "signed" by a set of forum folks. Socialize the proposal privately with Strife ahead of time, get hir support if possible. Frankly, I think s/he might welcome it. Then post it in the resmod section of the forum, and collect volunteers to sit on the (probably 3-person?) committee. Done.

Details as to how you select the members of such a committee - it might be best if the resmod had a word in this - would be troublesome but not impossible to work out.

Well. Don't know that I would describe any resmod as power-mad. Masochistic, maybe :)

I am still relatively new to this forum, not like some of you guys with years behind you and thousands of posts. I lurked for a while, reading, not posting. I learned to do that from the old days of BBs. As a newbie, lurking, it was very helpful and i never felt too intimidated to post, i just didnt have anything to add or ask for a while.

Howver, i did peek into SC a few weeks ago and NO WAY was i able to contribute. pretty scary.

If having a ResMod here supports my experience, then the forum, Residents Answers, is doing its job... making it possible for residents to ask, and be answered. The jokes are great too, but the kindness and assistance are what i came for and stayed for.

I wouldnt have Strife's job. I dont know how he she finds the time to read it all.. i just cherry pick...

Um... speaking of which... Cherry pie.. ice cream... can the pie be hot?

Thanks

Let's see... 71 threads since my last peek in a day or two ago, of which two are locked. That's 2.81% of threads locked. Hardly 'every thread we get into on here is locked' material....
