So are there any threads a Res Mod hasn't locked?

Is it just me or is really frustrating when every thread we get into on here is locked for the simplest of reasons. Every thing should have checks and balances but here on the official forums the res mods don't have those checks and balances. I think there is a difference between doing your job and over abusing power. And also, I'd like to invite everyone to check out second citizen forums.http://forums.secondcitizen.com/showthread.php?t=18578 It's filled with some of the finest and most well known second life residents and allows more freedom of speech with less moderator knit picking. The thread I linked above is an excellent post that shows many of the people who migrated there after being banned here. It's just worth a look to see all of the great conversations that come out of people not afraid of breaking the simplest rules and being banned. It's amazing the great topics that come about when you don't have to walk around on your tippy toes in fear a res mod will hear you.

/me nods . .. yes, at least I can look at SL forums at work. I'm in SL when I'm not in work, not in forums.

Well a recent thread was locked because it had apparently gone on long enough, which I thought was an awful reason for locking a thread but the mods do what they think needs doing.

Second Citizen scares me!

Exactly... @work I'm in the forums... SC isn't worksafe.

When I'm not at work, I'm more in SL, far far less in the forums.

I'm fine with the reasons threads get locked here, and
am usually more interested in the threads that don't get locked anyway.

Me too, but then I ask myself if I could do better and the answer is no as I honestly don't have the time. So whereas I support you raising these issues as I share some of these concerns, I don't have an answer regarding an alternative.

Second Citizen, as tasty as it gets, can also be a little over dramatic for my tastes and poor old Prok gets a very hard time there.

Based on the way you talk about Strife, in this and in other posts, I think you don't make much effort to hide that fact.

I do, and I could ... but Linden Lab are not interested in taking on volunteers.

Of course SC already had to shut down twice in just the last few months because of its posters.

If moderation keeps the official forums from degrading into the drama-filled, personal attack-ridden, uninformed/conspiracy theory cesspool that is SC then it's a very small price to pay.

Even the thread you highlight as a beacon of "free speech" degrades into childish vulgarity with the second post, an in-personal conflict on page three and in all of the 5 pages noone actually bothers to answer the original question, just to whine about LL and Strife.

I actually think Strife is *usually* fairly tolerant of our antics. I won't say I agree with every choice s/he makes, but I'm not generally surprised when a thread gets locked. Also, the one I believe you're referring to had a limited lifespan from the very beginning...which may be why we ran so hard with it.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I actually rather like it here. I like the level of moderation and I find it to be fairly consistent - which is precisely why foolish thread derails happen, we know perfectly well that the thread is destined for a lock and just entertain ourselves at the OP's expense until the inevitable. The looming threat of a thread lock is what fuels the humor.

Sure, not everyone shares the same sense of humor and thus there will always be people who don't agree when *some* of us think we are being hilarious. Real questions and concerns get answered here in a responsible manner - trolling gets the responses it deserves.

There is very little drama and in-fighting here on this forum, which is a pleasant change from the war zone it used to be. One can count on not having to trip over an inserted image of bodily mutilation or other subjects that are better left unseen, which is always a danger at SC.

All in all, it is pretty rare that any serious and informative discussion gets locked (at least not until it has long since dissolved into meaningless banter.) The humor (whether you want to call it that or not) is fairly gentle and lighthearted. There are no vicious personal attacks and it has been long time since anyone got banned from this forum.

Quick question: How do you know if you've had an AR against you? Do they send you a message?

The one thing you get in SL forums that isn't in SC is new-but-intelligent residents looking for answers. So not only can I help some people who haven't gotten to SC yet, but also I learn a lot from reading answers by the more knowledgable.

That said, I don't care if I never see another picture of pie, sweet and funny tho the sex-and-pie threads are. SC is more stimulating, particularly in the realm of opinions. But between actually being IN SL and helping/learning here, I'm out of time so rarely get there.

If you are warned or suspended (or banned) you are supposed to get an e-mail saying so.

There have been some thread recently where people were getting accidental suspensions and not getting any mail.

General Discussion would be nice to ahve back, but I really don't se it happening.

I usually tend to agree with the RezMods on when they lock threads (Usually. No way anyone will always be in agreement.)

I'm usually more agrevated by threads being moved. Mainly because there's no way to tell. Once a thread is moved, you have no idea where it went and there are WAY too many forum catagories here for my tastes. Finding a thread (when you don't remember the title) is hell.

As for SC....ummm....not thank you. That trash is something I'm glad left the forums. Personal opinion, so if you like the style there, good for you. I prefer less drama, swearing, and all around bulls***. I'll live with the locking and raise you a piece of pie (Apple if Ann has any.) =^.^=

*temporarily derailing thread to provide useful information*

I highly recommend subscribing to threads (under 'thread tools'), and using your User CP to keep tabs on them. This will help you follow them even if they get moved.

You can also set your personal options so that you automatically subscribe to any thread you post in. :)

I agree with Isablan. I've been a forum moderator. It's a thankless task...somebody ALWAYS thinks you are 1) too lenient, 2) too strict, or 3) playing favorites.

Strife does a good job.

I did notice, however, that after a few days of (apparently) completely unmoderated forum freedom, Strife suddenly popped up and locked quite a few threads.

I figure that s/he is back from vacation, rested and ready to take us all on and/or keep us in hand, whichever might be needed.

/waves.

Hi, Strife! Welcome back to the zoo!
