This is a joke, don't take it too seriously. I would be quite upset if that did happen, because I'll would never see the names in time to make a "Doctor Who"and "Rose Tyler" rofl

Sorry if I'm repeating something that's been said earlier, but I'd assume this would go along with lifting the alt limit on paid accounts.
I'm sure many people here already have two accounts with payment info. Since both of the methods for creating a new last name required payment, those people would be unable to create a new account with a new last name if the alt limits remained as they are. |

I think its a great idea! I wouldnt worry about spoofing and such, or the Jones issue, as Im sure they would develop some sort of way to check name availibility, just like they do with the issued names that are put out there now. Maybe even get some sort of way to also check to make sure its not TOO close to someone elses name! Not sure if thats able to be done or not since im not a programmer/developer... im just a little SL'er

Wonderfull idea. We will soon be honored to meet players named, "Hugh Jass," "Jack Hoff," and "Man Hood." While newbies not prepared to fork over extra cash will be calling themselves, "Xyyzzy," or "Jones7634."

Definately in favour of the ability to create my own surname.
A very useful feature Not sure of the specific value of tying it to a web site as my website is my company name and I would want an abbreviation or alternative. If I could select any (and I use that loosely, as there are inappropriate surnames) surname and either tie it or not to a specific website, that would be a workaround. I don't see a great advantage in tying to a web domain as a pre-requisite. |

I don't see a great advantage in tying to a web domain as a pre-requisite. I agree, however, if it does go web-domain-surname, then I'd hit up www.dyndns.org and register my computer with whatever lastname I want.dyndyns.org and then see what I get for surnames--either I'd be stuck with dyndns or I'd get a nice pick of my favored name. If I don't get what I want, what's $5 or $8 to register a month/year of a domain name that I won't use in order to get the name I do want? |

Like so many Linden suggestions we all pile in and say our views then... nothing happens... will anything be happening about this? if so, when?

Well, if this truly ever becomes an option then sign me up.
However, seeing the lack of any Linden response I wonder if this idea has just fallen by the wayside? Obviously there are more important issues at hand to deal with but if this "Surname" idea ever claws its way back to the top of the heap; count me in. |

Like so many Linden suggestions we all pile in and say our views then... nothing happens... will anything be happening about this? if so, when? It's been a year pretty much give or take a few months , but Lindens keep saying " working on it" Just like everything else is getting worked on. Dont get me wrong, I know the Lindens work hard but alot of customers WANT to see this happen and are willing to pay to get this done. I,for one am waiting for this to take place, after all I've been partnered in SL for 17 months and I'm still here tapping my foot. _____________________
