Just try it on an SL wide scale... or not... please...
I'm afraid that you're absolutely right. Boy did I get schooled in human nature. :p

I posted this in the N'burg forums but I'm not sure how long it will last, given that the rogue moderators are deleting all threads.
From: someone
Because the city chose to terminate negotiations, I've taken the first available opportunity to remove all of the objects in the city that I could find that were owned by me. I also made the mistake of accidentally deleting some structures that were not owned by me but were shared with a group, of which I'm still an officer. I didn't realize my mistake until I was 75% through the wall.

Anyways, in essence I've just removed my bridge, a few roads, and part of the wall. You can pop those back up with your reverse-engineered simulacra in no time at all.

After this we'll work on restoring the forum and getting your website and sim name changed and we'll almost be settled up.
Posted here for those in the city who want to know more than what the coup leaders will let them know.

Funny, for me, I thought that was the entire purpose of N'burg. Coups, and conspiracy, and supression of a free press, oh my! :p

This is precisely why Socialism/Communism will never work. If N'burg had Capitalist foundations, this could not have happened.

Still, I am sorry to hear that the nation was seized by a fascist oligarchy.

I know this is off-topic, but I would like to point out that Numbakulla, which is collectively owned, supported by donations and the generosity of supporters, is still in existence.

We're quiet, but we're still here. We have the occasional party, and don't have public slanging matches.

You could not call us capitalists by any stretch of the imagination.

Point is, I don't think you can conclude this from one sim...or one country.

Yeah, nice work, Ulrika. Now you actually carelessly caused non-monetary damages to N'burg government property.

Remember to mention this when you decide to sue in RL :-)

One more question: is all this drama really 'free', or will we be billed sometime in the future for the performance (like a ticket-after-the-event) ? :-)

or similar reasons I feel I must also post my words here:

From: someone
Since any possible negotiations were terminated unilaterally by Rogue Government officials acting without the input of The People --including myself who is co-founder of the City of Neualtenburg --I have left the sim currently known as Neualtenburg.

I have vacated my lands and removed all my personal property. I have left anything I was contracted and paid for by The City.

The "Projekt" will now be looking for a new location on the main grid.

As soon as the forum mess with agents of the City who are acting beyond their authority on the PROJEKT forums clears up. I will be outlining details of future plans.

As ever outside input is always welcome by me.

Posted by me on 14th December, 2003, in response to a thread entitled 'Self-Government Now! Please note that this was written a long time ago, and does not refer to any current citizens or projects of Second Life, and is not quoted with that intention.':-

Having migrated here from a site which had its own government, I felt that one of the attractions of SL is that it doesn't have one.

You might think that the present system is not good, but believe me, from the perspective of a totalitarian and authoritarian administration, it is a breath of fresh air. I have been active on the internet since 1997, and I have seen more times than I can count, proof of the adage that 'absolute power corrupts absolutely'. In every case where an individual or group has been given power the result has been corruption.

I would rather have this kind of benevolent dictatorship where the dictator is the owner of the site, and thus has an interest in its financial well being than an attempt at self-government which would, even if it took years to do so, almost inevitably end up in a self-righteous clique of power-hungry individuals who would make life miserable for everybody else.

Quite true. Which is why my next Projekt will instead be an experiment in communal living in an artist's collective on the maingrid. It will based on my own experimentations with forming an artist's guild.

Rather than a "Government", I will now be devoting my time with something I personally feel is needed in SL. A simple and true cooperative.

The goals of Neualtenburg were to foster free speech, encourage artistic collaboration and support artist's and craftspeople alike.

Ironic that the debate now has evolved into my being painted a villain by the PTB for standing up for those exact values in the current "Projekt" forum coup and respect for Ulrika's IP rights.

That sounds like a better idea, Kendra.

Thanks, Coco --let me know if you would be interested. You'd be welcome. You're a skilled craftsperson and I know you would be an asset to any community.

My apologies if anyone thought I was aiming at them personally.

I had long thought that N'burg was just too complicated for an itinerant virtual community. Good luck with your cooperative; that has much greater likelihood of success.

Thank you, I'm quite excited by this new venture. The Cooperative will be based on an updated post-modern medieval guild structure and there will be much opportunity for both mercantilism and education in the crafts of SL.

Please keep your eyes peeled at the "Neualtenburg Projekt's" forum for upcoming announcements --and if anyone wishes to join the Projekt do let me know and I will add you to my group.

I, for one, am glad it's over. A decision has been made and Ulrika has claimed all her things. All is well in N'burg.

It's not quite over. We still need to clear up the copyright violations. I believe most of the copyrighted material the group copied from my website without permission has been removed, the remaining item now is the use of the name "Neualtenburg". The name of the sim and website will have to change.

I'm actually suprised at how well this SL-government experiment has worked. It is mirroring RL amazingly close! Takeovers, slander, propoganda, officials overstepping their powers, censorship, revolution, corruption. It's all here. Just like reading the RL morning paper!

No, it doesn't.

How do I copyright a name, title, slogan or logo?
Copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases. In some cases, these things may be protected as trademarks. Contact the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, 800-786-9199, for further information. However, copyright protection may be available for logo artwork that contains sufficient authorship. In some circumstances, an artistic logo may also be protected as a trademark.

http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-protect.html

Maybe the city should use some of the money they offered Ulrika to buy the trademark.

So let me see if I have this right. Ulrika is trapped in a bunker with some one named Von Braun and a Luger. The bunker is currently surrounded by commies. That sound right?

And I want a mini-Ulrika.

Can /you/ listen to "Singing In The Rain" anymore without cringing? I sure can't.

Control of the forum has been returned to Kendra and myself.

I have also issued a DMCA notification that I submitted to LL today as well. It can be read here.

I wish things could have been resolved amicably, as frankly I need the money. However, this resolution is acceptable to me as well. As soon as infringement of my copyrights cease, I will consider the issue resolved.
