I currently own approximately 23000 meters worth of land in SL. 10000 meters of that I use for a club.
The club that I bought with my own money...furnished with expensive scripted items, also bought with my own money....provides CONTENT for Second Life.
Without club owners, like me, there wouldn't be events. And believe me, the 750 host bonus DOESN'T NEARLY PAY the costs of what it takes to operate a club.
Without people like me spend A LOT .... A LOT ...of money buying land....paying people to host events which provide content for Second Life..this game wouldn't exist.
I'm sick and tired of Second Life taking advantage of its members. I do love the game...but there is ZERO technical assistance when the very buggy/computer disrupting game goes nuts. And now they can't even live up to the very paltry financial obligations that they barely compensate their VERY BEST members with.
Is the money that they're basically ripping off from their already overburdened members going to be used to actually create a technical service department that can fix something?
I doubt it.
I'm sorry...but this is absolute nonsense. And more evidence that I really need to investigate finding another online game to play which isn't so expensive and so ungracious.

Oh..and By The Way

My immediate response to this BS is going to be to cancel all the upcoming events at my club.
Since Second Life's plan is to rip off their truly paying members, namely club owners...let them provide content for their own game and host events themselves.

Cimone, get over yourself. You've simply provided a warehouse for content. You BOUGHT the furniture and the scripts! And boohoo to cancelling your events- there are hundreds more where those came from- that's the problem.

And within a week there will be nothing in the events calender but "Educational content" Bet that makes you happy as a clam. You and the 15 other "technogeeks" and 50+ or so odd "Landbarons newb tychoons" left in SL can all sit around and complain that "You saw this coming the whole time" and wonder at your high framerates..her "purchase" of "Content" was a positive contribution to secondlifes supposed economy as well as a source of "Income" to her possible staff. What is your contribution Lance? Aside from your witty commentary in the forums? And is that an Owenimation dance vendor behind you? Clubber.
It's my second post. Flame away. I cant afford to give a rats ass anyways.

It's my second post. Flame away. I cant afford to give a rats ass anyways. Actually, Amy, my point about her buying was not that she was not contributing to the economy, but the fact that she said she added CONTENT. Please read carefully. Yes, actually, seeing more educational events would be great. Seeing people actually teaching other residents how to script, build, or texture would be fantastic, for whatever reason. More skilled residents = more content. On another note, you have NO knowledge as to what my contributions are to SecondLife, so please stop to making assumptions in boxes :| I made the first Antigrav devince in SL, the followbelt (ask pendari about that one ), I was part of the Little Tokyo project, As well as the Neo Tokyo project... I'm currently part of Neaultenburg, and am making an event scheduler, and am soon going to be making the rental system for the houses/appartments/whatever. And yes, that is an owenimations thing. I was at a club, because I wanted to see what it was about, rather than blindly hating something I had no idea about, and I took a pic. (By the way, she is referring to my profile pic in-world.)

Give Me A Break
01-11-2005 19:31
Do you actually know what the actual cost is for real paying members to own enough land to run a club..and to pay people to help with the hosting?
Look up what the land tier cost is...and estimate an average club.
Dwell bonuses are meaningless...particularly since to get one that's even half decent means you have to keep your club packed....which costs an exorbinate amount of money.
I happen to like the SL events calendar...it offers something extremely important....CHOICE...and CONTENT.
The LAST thing I want to do after I work 10 hours is to come home and look at SL art.
If I want art...i get up off my butt and go to a museum or a gallery.
This game is for socializing...period.
The SL "economy" is not supported by people like me...who convert dollars into Lindens.
And SL is already ripping me off enough tyvm.

Uhm, excuse me? First off, You're gunna have a hell of a lot of people jumping down your throught about the "game" comment, and secondly- SL is for socializing PERIOD? Yes, some people socialize, but look around you! If all it was about was socializing... why are there buildings? Why are there great things like DarkLife? Once again, GET OVER YOURSELF. And get down from that cross, already.

Is Anyone Paying Attention to Lance?
01-11-2005 19:48
Lance...believe me...i wasn't listening to you anyway.
You lost me with your pompous nonsense after the first 3 words. So don't bother responding.
There are a lot of club owners who do share my feelings and I'm interested in what their plans are...unlike my feelings towards you..i actually respect them and will read their posts.
And, for the other person previous who's comment I did read....a really good way to make money is to get a job.

That's Ok Amy
01-11-2005 19:56
LOL...that's ok Amy.
People like you are exactly the reason I play this game.
If I had to spend my non-working time in the company of "people" like Lance...believe me, I wouldn't be playing the game. In fact, i'd probably rather spend my free time in the evenings chewing off my own limbs.
Its rather evident to the paying members of this game that SL doesn't care about the ridiculous fees and technical support nightmare that this game puts forth.
If they did..the first "fee" they would have lowered is their land tier costs which are absolutely outlandish or actually used the funds to provide REAL technical support.

First off, the antigrav device and the followbelt are two different objects (as a side note, these were the first two things I made in SL.. in my first two weeks. I have no other coding experience.. so If I can do it.. why not you?). Yes, I sold them, and I still sell the AntiGrav as a part of a larger system. The rental system will generate revenue for Neaultenburg (if you don't know what it is, I suggest you find out). It isn't for a mall, and HELL NO, it is not for a club. The event scheduler is, once again, for Neaultenburg. It will help us organize and also helps keep track of event hosting taxes in the city. Please, PLEASE, don't talk about what you don't know.

Interestingly, and perhaps this will be of some educational value to our younger viewers, not all SL content is defined by clubs. There are stores and yes, maybe even malls, though my experience in such fields isn't great, might survive without *naked stripper prostitute hippos in thongs*. You know, maybe it's not important. Maybe it is, I don't know.
As a woman, yes, a real one... it really strikes me as odd that people automatically assume I want to visit a strip club, or get a job as a whore. I have better things to do with my time!
Let me enhance your education a little...
* I can teach classes, in building, scripting, clothing designe (all basic) or newbie orientation. * I can teach advanced classes in building or scripting * I can host discussions, lectures, parties and so on...
(note none of the above cost me money and I can geain dwell)
* I can host contests and give away money. All I have to do is figure out how to recoup said money!

Please, PLEASE, don't talk about what you don't know. Looks like a skunk..smells like a skunk..Neaultenburg..Sounds like some kind of Club. is it a place where likeminded individuals get together and in a Roleplaying or social setting and share interests exchange ideas in a setting that is condusive to thier mutual passion? Sounds like a club to me..or a cult..Is it a cult lance? is it a Snow sim architectural, social, and political experimental CULT? I dunno..Mebee it really is all about the Bling bling. I'm making assumptions based on very limited information..Kinda like going to one "Club" and then deciding that "all" clubs are evil and must be destroyed. And to Cimone..I would be honored to attend your next event..Contest or no...Even with dwindling funds I would gladly pay a "Cover" to get in even.. To help defray the costs and perhaps contribute to a contest or paychecks to your staff. :

My dear, let me say this much.... What do you know? The Lindens did exactly this to us a year ago. We screamed, we shouted, we thought the sky was falling... And finally we learned! You would perhaps be well advised to do likewise. And if you ever refer to me again as a moron, I'll be more than happy to show you, quite publicly, what a moron is, noting such wonderful grammar as: From: someone Im right there From: someone how much time, and energy not to mention money just per examplar

I, for one, would be perfectly happy if at least half the clubs in SL went down in flames. The argument for LL to keep pumping money into a "Sexiest AV" or "Hottest Ass" contests is extremely weak. We've seen VERY VERY VERY little innovation amongst the club owners since the 'money ball' which quite arguably has been around since very early in SL. These copycat clubs (let's face it, they all have the exact same money balls/whores/lame promotions) should be able to survive on their own, without having to count on Linden Welfare to pay their bills.
Here's a wild one: if all the clubs were forced to charge a *cover*, perhaps everyone would be better off. Clubs then become much more competitive (IMHO dwell doesn't currently do as much as door receipts would for competition) and be forced to innovate on the social axis, adding much more value to the world.
I'd really like to see the Linden money going toward other things such as content creation rather than supporting these two-bit 'businesspeople' running their lame ass dives.
