The Rampant Anti-Business Climate in SL

Your old signature included an tracking image on a server outside LL. Some have said that your purpose in the forums was to post rubbish many would respond to. They've said you've harvested IP addresses to determine alts and rl identities.

Is that correct? Do you still sell this information on a website? How can SL residents find out if you've compromised their privacy?

Gotta disagree with you there, Prokofy. You can ride your high horse around lamenting everyone's sensitive feelings, but the truth is that even from an unbiased perspective, your posts are incredibly grating and unpleasant.

When I first started posting to the SL forums, before I knew anyone or had any preconceived notions, I read just one of your posts.

Just one.

My immediate, gut, first impression of you, sir, is unprintable.

Let's get one thing straight Prok. My decision to tune you out has nothing to do with any negative affect you have on my ego. Don't flatter yourself. It has everything to do with me finding what you have to say to be a complete waste of the minutes it takes to read your posts. Let me give you an analogy... if I never flushed my toilet my bathroom would stink. That wouldn't hurt my ego, it would offend my senses. I decided to flush.

It's hard to know where to begin with all your gross slanderous bullshit, but let's give it a whirl. I never had any image on my signature, as distinct from my icon here, so I don't know WTF you are talking about.

1. If my profile in Second Life has a link to my blog and my blog on typepad.com has a link to I dunno, photobucket or something? Photobucket doesn't contain my RL identity or something. No way. My game e-mail is dyerbrookME@juno. That's my game e-mail from a previous game I took, from my previous TSO avatar, which I have linked clearly and unequivocally in numerous posts, comments on SL Herald, etc. so that's not a secret.

2. When some witless wonder said that my blog on typepad.com actually contained all these hotlinks to my RL information, I figured, well, maybe these brilliant tekkies know something I don't know? I'll take them at their word. One of the ways that people can get "outed" in a game like this is carelessly putting their pictures on a web server that is their own RL home or RL work webserver.

But I don't do that. I never have done it. Photobucket or tripod or those other free sites are obviously not "my RL servers".

And reluctant, as always, to take arrogant tekkies at their word, I went to study my typepad.com account every which way from Sunday.

And I see now what these brilliant tekkies were talking about. Somewhere if you click around enough you get the blog's "About Me". That "About Me" is about Prokofy Neva. It says he is a writer, and speaks Russian. Like...you had some difficulty understanding that Prokofy Neva is a WRITER ROFL???? That he speaks Russian? Huh? Like these were secrets?

3. But that information is NOT repeat NOT repeat NOT what Nolan Nash revealed here on the forums, and which all kinds of witches and google witch-hunters are cackling about now.

So try to understand these nuances.

4. Um, could you explain to me how I "harvest" RL identies and "track ISPs" from...my free site on photobucket or my paid public site on typepad. com? You are HILARIOUS. I don't "harvest RL identies" or "track ISPs" because I wouldn't know them if they bit me in the ass, I don't have the technical knowledge to track them.

5. You're an example of the "gossip" game in spades. What you must be referring to is my charge -- well supported by Cocoanut Koala and others! -- that the Second Life Herald (not me) tracks ISPs to filter out alts and gather information about RL identities. This used to be a real sport of Urizenus Sklar. I know he did it because sometimes when he'd answer my off-site e-mail, it would come back to me with my whole ISP numbers pasted right into the e-mail! Tsk tsk, Uri, hide the tracking better! I'm not sure Uri still tracks. But that Uri DID track is a matter of public record and not only my experience. They tracked to prevent spamming up of their forums with alts and fake personas not tied to any responsibility then toward their in-game persona. I believe they also tracked to perform investigative journalism and "out" various people they felt were griefers or trouble-makers in the game.

From various things I gathered, I began to realize SLH was doing that google witch-hunt that Christiano spoke about so eloquently. But unlike Nolan, they didn't publish my RL info, they don't stoop THAT low from what I've seen. They just like to have it to have power over other game players, that's all. Understood.

6. SLH also published a slanderous and hilarious piece about me which contain no truth in it (other than that yes, I had a Nubian princess avatar LOL). If you need a rebuttal of all their untruths, which they themselves recognize (they admitted it was a slow news day and they published tabloid tripe), I can provide it but you can find it in other threads here.

So, to reiterate, "Biff" I do not harvest or sell or compromise any SL resident's privacy. Indeed, I wouldn't be able to technically do this, and further more, it is a TOS violation. If you feel I've done that, you're welcome to use the same AR system I've used to report others who do this. You'll be grateful for the crystal-clear reading I've gotten from the Lindens on this matter: that ANY information NOT on the First Life Profile of any resident publicly dissseminated in the game or the forums constitutes a violation of that resident's privacy.

So, griefing effort interrupted once again, Biff, could you go back to building pulsating ugly grief towers again? Geez, I just saw one in the New Continent by this woman's really pretty sort of Persian-type build on the waterfront. Could you end those sorts of juvenile antics? Or are you going to report on an experiment for us?

You have to be incredibly grating and unpleasant to deal with this bunch. It's an incredibly grating and unpleasant bunch of its own. The arrogance and sense of self-importance, combined with the most witless thin-skinned hysteria, really is unparalleled on the Internet in most places.

I remember your first post in reaction to my post. It was the usual reactionary misinterpretation flipped out to somehow prove something about yourself rather than answer me. Indeed, as I google your name on our forums to see all your posts, I see what is so true of so many of you -- you aren't putting out your own ideas, you aren't taking the risks to try and fail or succeed, you are just replying to my ideas and my efforts to try and fail or succeed. I wonder if you'd get any posts under your belt if you didn't have me to reply to.

Go back to my innocent proffering of the idea of Midge, which Anshe eventually did, with my support (just in the forum of being a paying resident).
