Isn't it funny how when I used the term "anti-intellectual" people thought I meant "those who aren't intelligent". That be funny as all get out. :D

~Ulrika~

Isn't it funny how people seem to put up with a small subset of people trolling the forum. Despite the fact that it's a TOS violation?

And isn't it funny when people set themselves on pedestal and continue to look down their noses at people.

And isn't funny that the self-described intellectuals on this board exhibit no more intellectualism than anyone else.

And isn't it funny how some people have such empty lives that they have to try to control a message board on the internet.

It's all very funny. Really. Not funny ha-ha, but funny pathetic, really.

She could get away with the N word. I can't think of the C word? Oh wait, you mean the racial slur beginning with C? People still use that?

I meant the sorta misogynistic "C" word. You know the one that is likely the most disgusting epithet?

I know I'm sort of mixing things. I'm just wondering how far said individual will go.

FWIW, I haven't heard the racist "C" word in a long long time. My Grandmother grew up in the south and unfortunately still used that word from time to time. R.I.P. Grandma.

I never knew Soccer Mom was so insulting. I will have work it into more posts. Asshats will now be replaced with Soccer Mom.

I've always thought of asshat as a term of endearment anyways.

Ah that word. Yeah, 'tis a harsh one, and definitely would be classified as misogynistic. Though apparently so is "soccer mom". Different strokes and all that.

Ohh yeah I use that word a lot on another board. Most women hate that word, but it is a insult when used with the right timing. I would be permabanned if I used it here, lol.

I still cherish the first time Malachi called me that.

I can't comment on the 'c' word - I use it to describe inanimate objects...

... then again , I am Australian.

Yeah, plus Vagina Monologues and all that. "Bitch" is supposed to be empowering, too - Babe in Total Charge of Herself. I still don't like being called it.

I should quit watching the depressing news and get into the game.

There is a school of thought that taking away the power a word has over you is empowering, as exemplified by the use of queer in the mainstream. I don't necessarily buy into the theory - I am sure to some gay kid being beaten up and called queer, the fact that the Fab 5 on Queer Eye can transform the lives of clueless straight guys probably is hollow comfort. The power behind an individual word is all about motivation - when it is used to insult and demean, it will always be demeaning - no amount of spin changes that. Like many other things in life, it is a complex grey area - it's alright for example to say a word in certain circles, but not others.

Yeah, now he'd probably use something like "insincere, ass kissing, politicing, drama queen egomaniacal dipshit", but fondy. I'm just guessing.

:( I am completely sincere in my ass kissing, politicing, drama queen egomania. And I am no dipshit.

Edit: come to think of it though, he probably would say something like that, since he has become wordy as hell in his old age. Asshat was more colorful. The Prokofy effect rears its ugly head.

The term Soccer Mom is not misogynist or insulting in and of itself.
The implication that all Soccer Mom's are the same, and that they are ineffectice time wasters is what is misogynist and insulting.

Nope, again, saying all soccer moms are ineffective is not misogynistic. Saying soccer moms are ineffective because they are women is misogynistic.

In at least one case, I don't think someone found it misogynistic at all. IMO, it was a tactic to avoid commenting on the content of the post in question.

Its funny no one wants to debate about the topic instead they want to focus on one "word". Ok since one word is more important than a thaught I will for now on leave an underline for you to fill in later. Kinda like adlibs.

I would imagine because soccer parent has no meaning in our vernacular, where as "soccer mom" is a commonly used illustration (as is the hockey dad one someone used earlier). You are reaching so far to attribute it to be this big insult to women, and it is just not there no matter how often you label it misogynistic.

you're right --it's not misogynist. It's gender stereotyping

I think it is just plain old stereotyping period that had nothing to do with them being women. Stereotypes, like it or not, do represent a certain segment of any group. . The stereotype is more of one of frivilousness than it is one of gender bias.
