Sorry. As a woman raised in a major multi-cultural family with strong feminist ties. Yet an extreamly "loose" person, who is now a Libertarian/Independent. I don't call out PC terms lightly. I stand by what I stated. "Soccer Mom' is a deragatory term these days. Spewed more by Conservatives than liberals. It *is* an offensive term. Do with it what you will.
EDIT TO ADD: And the person who first used it, used it as a "put down" in the grand scheme. If you go back and read his post. _____________________

Would middle-class white woman in the suburbs be a better term? Soccer Mom is not an insult unless; well someone is ashamed of being a Soccer Mom. I think being called Mom or Dad is probably the largest insult of all, period. Give birth, lose your personal identity. People are labeled everyday; it is one of the things that makes humans comfortable. You don’t hear the NASCAR Dads complaining. Yet, Women have to bitch about every damn thing and wonder why they can get no respect. You can’t ask for equality then whine about every thing gender based and ask for preferential treatment. Women complain non-stop about PMS and Menopause but they want to be treat equally in society (like that dumbass joke in off topic). I’m special! I’m different! I have cramps, so I get a free pass. ![]() Feminism is a failure; you can’t have it both ways ladies. more misogynistic tripe _____________________

More importantly - are soccer moms anti-intellectual and what are they lobbying? 1. Only when they are at hockey instead of soccer practice. 2. Tennis balls. _____________________

well i read all of this thread. i collated all the data. (what do collate mean?) (if it has to do with colons i did it right.)
the idea that because you make some suggestion to an internet entertainment company that the said company might adopt at some point in time in some form seems to be the bottom line of all this squabbling about some player group forming some government type entity. much ado about nothing. there is no way any real teeth can be given to any customers on this service. if you think all this hot air is accomplishing anything at all, enjoy it. i am just a customer of a new and different type of gaming community. so are you. _____________________

If everyone is so pissed about being labeled then why do you join groups? By joining a group you automatically label yourself.

If everyone is so pissed about being labeled then why do you join groups? By joining a group you automatically label yourself. Groups can be helpful as much as they can be hurtful. Example: AA helps alcohol abusers to get back on their own feet. KKK seeks to make people feel wanted in order to fulfill a horrid agenda. Labels in and of themsevles are not bad. Neither are words. It is the context and intent behind them. And the way society starts to use them that matters. _____________________

So you are all telling me to make a story up instead of telling the real story to prove my point because it could offend someone...ok? What's more telling to me is that instead of addressing the point you were making, Ulrika and Kendra chose to nit pick. I see that as a common misdirection tactic. Don't fall for it. |

Labels in and of themsevles are not bad. Neither are words. It is the context and intent behind them. And the way society starts to use them that matters. That is equally the problem with labelling someone's motives as something as well. You being insulted by "soccer mom" made sense to me after you explaining it. However, Kendra/Ulrika labelling it misogyny does not. That speaks to motivation. His example may have been poor - he could have used other examples to get the point across - but blanket labelling something as misogynistic, like calling something racist, speaks to the person's motivations and labels the person at the same time. Poor choice? Yeah. Misogynistic, nope. _____________________

I was more upset with the terms, and figured the original poster did not understand how it could be *super insulting*. Poor choice yes. I'll stick to that. _____________________
