From: Pathfinder Linden OK, this just in. We have Philip's calendar confirmed for Friday, July 22, at 4:00pm. Barring any emergency that pulls him away, he will be available to meet everyone at that time. So in general...plan on showing up at LL around 4pm if you'd like to meet Philip. After the colo tour at 5pm, I plan on crawling the local pubs and kicking back with anyone who is interested in sharing a few pints of Guinness (or your beverage of choice). Cheese and peanuts may be included. Thank you so much Path. You have gone far and beyond what was needed. Organizing a tour, making sure Philip is there and going to the local pubs afterwards!!! You rawk!

Wow! This is almost getting official.
The way this all started was Jennyfur and I decided to visit San Francisco, and pop by (as residents have been encouraged to) on the Friday afternoon, then to go out for drinks.
The weekend of our wedding, a few SLers who were hanging with us for the weekend thought it would be fun too. Then it grew from there. This was always more about just a resident get together than anything formal with Linden Lab; Pathfinder, thanks so much for going WAY above and beyond the call of duty!
So that's what we're doing. Hanging out, having fun, exploring the town a bit, and spending time with some cool cats. If you're up for that come along... but if you want the officially sanctioned first SL convention... this is not the event you're looking for!
Maybe someone will try to put together and organization SLcon next summer.
Regards,
-Flip

One year ago we were toying with the idea of organizing an "SL Developers Conference", however everybody was so busy with other stuff we realized we'd never be able to organize it within the summer timeframe so we did not pursue it. I haven't heard any rumors about a resurrection of that effort, however I suspect we're going to try to get into the habit of organizing some sort of small conference (presentations, workshops) that orbits the annual Game Developers Conference, either right before or right after. The GDC is held in the SF Bay Area in early March.
A mass visit provides an interesting opportunity to do some presentations or Q&A sessions about SL. For instance, I'd be willing to talk about some of the stuff I'm working on as a LL developer, and I suspect a few others would be interested in talking about their projects if they had the time. It would just take someone to drum up a place, a time, and some sort of general agreement within that lab that it is a good idea.
While the lab has a conference room that can accomodate about 40 or 50 people I don't know if the lab would be a suitable place for something like that. I'll mention the idea to a few people around the office to see what they think.
In any case, I'll at least try to attend some of the unoffcial activities and participate in an informal way if I can find the time. I'm looking forward to the visit.

every time i come back to this thread, i get more and more tempted to make arrangements to come out there. i'll have to check with my room-mates/tenants/friends (weird situation at my place) as well as my father (he depends alot on my help) and what-not. if all is well, i may be able to actually do this! (and even bring some friends along for the visit! now THAT'S a way to recruit new residents! ). out of curiousity, how many poeople are definite at this point? if anyone has the numbers that would be cool.. either that or, maybe we can start a seperate thread with a poll of Yes/No/Maybe? sounds good.. going to do it now

I'll be there. Should be able to make a day of it Friday. Maybe more... House hunting in the Bay Area has proven a slow and frustrating process, so I can't offer anybody a place to stay. But if a coordinated group is arriving at the Oakland Airport and needs a lift, IM me -- I can borrow an SUV and deliver a group of four plus luggage. Now if I could get a decent video card into this Mac where I'm renting a room, maybe I could get some more time in-world ...

Xylor and I will definitely be available for drinks Friday evening. I don't think we'll be able to make it to Linden Lab though. The joys of working a nine-to-five, eh? Delairen

Cross-posted from IRC, I'm looking for some travel advice from local's (coming up from Perth, Australia). From: someone <AdamZaius> Anyone here live in: NY, SF, or Seattle? * AdamZaius is looking for advice on hotels in NY/Seattle. (need to get that part booked in), and in SF+NY+Seattle places worth visting & eating at, etc. <AdamZaius> I've only got a week in total; so it's going to be a fairly packed trip. Edit: Ooops - forgot to switch account, this is Adam Zaius

What do you want to know? SF is packed with cool things to do and see, from Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge to museums, shopping, dive bars and fabulous shows. SF also has some awesome restaurants - what price range and type of cuisine are you looking for? By the way, don't book a hotel South of Market between 5th and 8th streets. Just don't. Bad things happen there.

Ok this is partially a bump to see what the status is.
My understanding is that Pathfinder has got a tour started around 5:00PM on Friday 22. Phil may appear around 4:00pm on the Friday the 22.
I myself am Planning to come in on thursday night. Where exactly is LL? Is it in Downtown SF? I just wanted to know If I should plan on renting a car?
Also, does anyone have any ideas for lunch on the 22? I know some will be there and some will not, but if anyone has any thoughts I'm open to suggestions!

I have unfortunate news. Nala and I, do to unforseen financial difficulties, will not be able to attend. We so wanted to go but we hope you'll have a great time and tip a pint for us. Well, in Nala's case, make it a Smirnoff Ice. *hugs and kisses* Trin

ACK! Sorry to hear that, Nala and Trinity! Well, that gives us an excuse for some other time. Here's what I've got as our agenda thus far (this covers Jennyfur, Hiro Pendragon, Valadeza and myself): We arrive early afternoon in Oakland. We'll be getting a ride to our hotel, the OMNI HOTEL SAN FRANCISCO, which is 1/2 mile from Linden Lab. After landing the plane and such, washing our faces, and so on, we'll probably end up at the Lab at around 3:30-4pm. We'll then meet Philip and the gang, and go on the tour / crawl / late night chaos with Pathfinder and anyone who wishes to come along (quick tech, be sure you're not gridmonkey that night!). On Saturday, we're going to sleep in to recover from Friday night <grin>. Then we're thinking a tour of Chinatown and Alcatraz, with anyone popping in and out as they wish with us. I'm more than happy to give my mobile number to people I've met in world (mainly because if you annoy me, I have a feature to lock you out, hehehehe). We leave Sunday morning. Its a short trip, but should be fantastic! Several others will be there longer that us - I know Adam will, for example. I can't wait! I'm getting all geeked up, and ready to annihilate Bub with nerf weaponry! -Flip

I have the time off work, I have the frequent flyer miles. I hardly know any of you guys, and honestly - I suck in RL social situations. But this looks really fun, and I think I'll regret it if I miss it Does anyone have any kind of rough itinerary planned? Or pretty much - fly to SF, and show up at LL on Friday the 22nd at 4pm? Is there a particular hotel everyone's at? Any roughly planned night activities or weekend goings-on? Or is all of the 'official' stuffs happening on Friday night, and the rest of the weekend, everyone's pretty much doing their own thing? Just trying to establish some sort of structure - it helps my social anxiety Edit: Flip - just saw your post. I had this window in edit mode for the past hour. Sounds like that's it - unless there's more

Seriously - I can't believe that several of you are pissed off that they are not able to confirm a meeting with Philip. Did it ever occur to you that maybe, just maybe, he has other things on his calendar - things that were scheduled long before this came up?
