Mozilla being intergrated into SL in the next update?

There is a difference between questioning something and stating something as a fact, which is conjecture. Catherine did not ask if the reason we have Mozilla is because of Mitch, she stated that is in fact the reason, and held to that through many of her posts. There is nothing wrong with questioning a decision, although it is LL's to make. What there is a problem with is the continued use of allegations presented as facts, then backtracking and saying "oh I was just questioning". You can question something without first indicting and accusing the person.

That is a direct statement. That is what was pushed back against, and what immediately put the topic in a negative light. It wasn't "why is Mozilla being used instead of IE", it was "Mozilla is being used because once again a board member decided it should be (eBay being her first accusation)". I'm not quite sure how she explains using Apple, not Real, even though a board member is from Real and the CEO came from Real. Never mind those messy facts though. They don't make it seem as lurid so leave those out.

FYI - IE is integrated into Windows, which means:

A. It may be very difficult to integrate into SL as a tool.
B. It will certainly have a completely different implementation on a Mac, creating more work for LL.
C. It may pose a gamut of crash possibilities since Microsoft they'd do something as stability-destroying as integrating their web browser directly into their OS's file exploring system.

Understand advantages to Firefox / Mozilla:

A. Open source. This means no paying for rights.
B. Open source. This means a large community working on it and posting about it on the Internet to assist LL.
C. Open source. This means LL can tweak it however they want, change the interface, GUI, etc.
D. Less memory usage than IE.
E. Not integrated to the OS = far less risk.

My eye brow certainly was raised when I read the newsletter but it was you and your buddies who turned this into a dramafest 2005 because you thought I had a hidden agenda or a conspiracy theory.

With all due respect, and without addressing your other concerns with Cristiano, you're incorrect.

You posed a question and you answered it yourself. If you wished to have posed it as a question, you could have:

a. stated that it was your opinion, rather than present it as the only reason.
b. provided alternate reasons.
c. simply not provided your opinion at all at first, and asked why. Once people stated their thoughts, then you could have chimed in.

a)Nope Hiro that was a question using the information that was quoted above as a reference. My style of writting differs from others I will agree with that. Yet I wanted to know why Mozilla was chosen was it because he was on the board of directors? That fact was presented by the newsletter first not by me.

What I could of should of might of done. Why I think its best to put my questions concerns and opinions out there frankly and honestly. To do other wise would in fact be a hidden agenda would it not. Honstly yes the connection between mitch and LL and Modzilla certainly does still bother me.

Many nice ppl were kind enough to explain the why modzilla was chosen. I said hey then thats fine.

Now other questions I also had have not been addressed:

Will this cause more lag? Will it affect the stability of SL?

You have never really read people's posts, especially your own. No shock there.

Then you'd best change. It's not a "style" of writing. It is simply incorrect and fails to successfully communicate your ideas properly. As you say now, you could have just asked "Was the reason ... XYZ?" People aren't mindreaders. They can't predict where question marks are supposed to be.


I'm not challenging this. I did provide some insight for you.


I've found people are much more able to communicate without offending if they add the words "I think" or "My opinion is" before an opinion. A successful communicator must consider the audience; hiding behind a style in a persuasive format (such as this forum) is not a valid excuse.

Honesty and frankness are fine. I'm not questioning this, I'm pointing out that the format does not successfully communicate the frankness and honesty that you are trying to convey. I'm saying that you can alter the way you present your thoughts in a way that better represents what you actually think; it's clear that people took it the wrong way.

Again, hiding behind "I am what I am" is not a valid excuse. If you post here, your intent is to persuade. You cannot expect to persuade someone on your terms; it's contradictory to the whole concept. You speak in terms that most people can understand, and you clarify when misunderstood. It's your responsibility as the speaker. At best, it is the interlocutor's responsibility to ask "What did you mean?" but again, they are not psychic. They can only decipher your intent from your words.

And on a more philosophical level, a person is never a static thing; a person is constantly changing, and so "I am me" is a deceptive statement. It presumes that "me" is a changing being. So your insistence that you are you doesn't really have anything to do with your choice not to be more clear, and less accusatory in your approach

Well, I went back and re-read her first post.

All I can say is, I didn't read it nearly anything like you did.

Yes, I knew and it was clear she was raising that connection. But there were enough question marks in it, I guess, that I got more the impression that of "this is what it looks like, is this what it is? and is this what it's going to be in the future?" from the whole post.

Legitimate questions, to me. Then everything was rolling along until someone said "wild conspiracy theory," which, in my opinion, it certainly wasn't. Then later I read on and the fur was flying.

I think you aren't reading it the way another reader, like me, would read it, perhaps because of your history together. I can see now as how you might have taken offense at it, reading it the way you did, with whatever history you have, but to a more objective person, it looked quite reasonable.

I don't know a lot about y'all's history, and I would never use cursing in print, here or anywhere online (except among close friends in a game, as a joke), but I can certainly understand two years of frustration. Heaven knows, I was certainly subject to a whole lot of bad stuff when I first got on this forum.

It helps to remember that this is JUST a forum, with JUST a few people on it. And with people as smart and verbal as we all are, it stands to reason that when they maybe don't like each other much, things get much worse than they would irl. I would also add that the person being ganged up on is going to take it a lot harder than those doing the ganging, or just those standing at the side watching. I know, cause I've been there - even though I'm not the kind who would respond with strong language in print. Doesn't mean I haven't wanted to. So whether you are right or wrong, it's sometimes best to ease up. jmo
