From: Catherine Cotton You know what Cristiano it's realy difficult to have an adult discussion with you when your remarks are so snarky. I too used my brain to see the obvious as I saw it. I have gotten the impression from you on more than a dozen occasions that unless my opinion agrees with yours im a dumb ass. Again I disagree with you and your assumptions.
So would you finaly answer my question. "If it your opinion that the fact that Mitch is on the Board of Directors, had absoulutly nothing to do with this decision?"
I'm also going to state the obvious here once again "stop putting words in my mouth cristiano, the only person creating drama here is you. there is no conspiracy theory, there is nothing "sinister" those are your words not mine.
The fact that LL chooses their path based on the board of directors and not their clients needs, I find that very disturbing. I dont give a flying fuck if they are open about it or not, it's being done and it SUCKS. That my dear is a fucking FACT.
Cat Catherine, It is hard to have an adult conversation with you when you are always so all over the map with what your objection is. I did answer your question more than once. I said they chose the only viable option they had for cross platform support. That you choose to ignore the answer and just keep reasking it is your own problem. As far as you not creating a conspiracy theory, look up the definition of conspiracy theory. Your repeated statements that they chose Firefox simply because of a board member is a conspiracy theory. Duh. You just repeated it in your last paragraph again. Here, I will quote it for you, so you can't wiggle out of not creating drama and a conspiracy theory YET AGAIN: From: Catherine Cotton The fact that LL chooses their path based on the board of directors and not their clients needs, I find that very disturbing. I dont give a flying fuck if they are open about it or not, it's being done and it SUCKS. That my dear is a fucking FACT.
There is no FACT in your paragraph at all, purely conjecture and your opinion that something SUCKS. You have no proof or any facts to back it up. Thus a conspiracy theory!

Catherine,
Is there a member of the Linden Lab board of directors from Apple? You have established this is a pattern, since we had to download Quicktime. Ultimately, the Quicktime decision came down to ease of integration and cross platform compatibility (though that argument is a bit weak as there is Mac support for Windows Media and Real). This is the same situation - Firefox is the best choice for what they need to do. End of story.

From: Catherine Omega Second, you're not being forced to download Mozilla, you're being forced to download Second Life, containing some Mozilla code. From the end-user perspective, it will look exactly the same until you decide to use it.
Catherine, Can the component version if Mozilla be integrated into the SL install, or will it be a situation like Quicktime where people have to download a separate program to support it? It doesn't make much difference to me as I have Firefox on my system already - but I am just curious.

Cat Catherine, You have provided absolutely no proof that this decision was because of a board member. Until you do, what you keep saying is conjecture and a conspiracy theory. Your cynicism is not proof of anything except your own issues. If they had a Microsoft board member and had chosen IE, would you be screaming about that?

Don't pretend to be looking for facts when all you do is stir the pot. How about this for a fact, I provided the original article, I provided the link to the original article and perhaps you should read this article again. Another LL employee wrote the article in which this statement was made by Mitch Kapor himself: "It's exciting to watch two passions of mine come together like this," Linden Lab Board of Director Mitch Kapor enthuses to the Opinion. (After all, Mitch also happens to be the chairman of the Mozilla foundation.) "It gets us that much closer to creating a metaverse that's also the next evolution of the Web." What exactly about that is a conspiracy? Looks like a FACT to me. The only person creating drama here is you, knock it off.

No, Quicktime is kind of a different situation, since it's closed-source and designed as a plugin. Mozilla, on the other hand, isn't designed to be "plugged in", so much as "here's a bunch of code; integrate it as you need". The Mozilla integration will be completely part of the SL client and should add about three or four megs to the downloader. You'll open windows entirely within SL, where they'll stay. You won't need to have already downloaded Mozilla, or have it installed on your system, any more than you'd need to download Havok.

The only person creating drama here is you, knock it off. Catherine, I did read it, that is hardly proof that he strongarmed LL into using Firefox. As he is involved with both organizations, he is happy they are working together. I swear Catherine, all you ever see is malicious intent wherever you look. I am glad I don't go through life like that. As far as being a drama queen, that is rich coming from you. I won't even respond to it since anyone who knows your forum history knows it speaks for itself, on this account and on your alts. By the way, nowhere have I ever said I don't care about your opinions, but in this thread you are telling me you don't care what I have to say, fuck my opinions, blah blah. You are acting like a 5 year old sticking her fingers in her ears. That is the reason you are never able to have an adult conversation - you don't have the first clue about what behaving like one means.

I'm not saying that it's a good thing -- I have no idea who Mitch Kapor is -- but simply being both a chairman and on the board is not necessarily negative. Can you explain why you think this is a bad thing? As others have stated before, having Firefox makes sense to LL because they have to be able to support both Mac and Windows. Mitch is chairman of Mozilla. Everyone is happy.

Since everyone allready said what I would have said as response to Catherine, here's the only contribution I can make to this thread:
Catherine, you may not see any artistic implications for this integration, and thats allright - because this is not really aimed at your slice of the world.
Scripters however are a different story. We're a weird crowd. When you put a technical feature that has no artistic value, we find a value - and end up doing something that benefits the community as result.
The example items that Cat listed are just afew of an ocean of possibilities that run in my mind right now. The concept of having Gecko integrated in SL is so spazmasticly wonderful from a Scripter point of view, that it will be practicly hopeless for me to even try to explain it here.
All I have to say is this: not every feature is here to make your prims look better. Saying that this HTML rendering engine has no use from artistic POV and thus is useless, is like saying the new LINK_ROOT and llForceMouselook() are not contributing to artistic work, so its not really important to add them.

PS - I pointed out your forum history/alts because of the sheer irony of you calling anyone a drama queen. It is like Prokofy calling someone verbose.

Why the hell are you complaining about something so trivial? Firefox is an open source browser, and the mozilla foundation is a non-profit orginization, unlike microsoft. LL chose mozilla instead of IE because if they chose IE they would be stuck with a primitive browser and a huge royalty fee. Where as with firefox/mozilla they don't have to pay a dime since it's open source.

Well if it helps scriptors that rocks my sox! Can you hit on a few key points on how it will help you as a scriptor for me? There has been very little in the past that helps scriptors work better IMO I think if it does help that is fantasitc news. Cat Disclaimer this opinion doesn't however change my opinions about why it was intergrated over other browser platforms yet.

Read my post, it's open source with no royalty fees. It's also a shit ton better than any other browser on the market, and pretty much makes IE eat it's shit and then shit out that shit and then eat the shit which IE just shit out because mozilla made him eat his shit.
