Yea I'm also getting problems with scripts:

"There was a problem saving a compiled script due to the following reason: Asset request: failed. Please try re-saving the script later."

Time to backup all my work off-line. Where's that copybot again? :D

Still unable to log in.

Ah... seems like it was up for about 11 minutes before whatever it was that broke last time did it again.

Grid monkeys obviously didn't bang the right thing.

I've been logged in for a while and was able to teleport around, pick up a couple freebies, screw up my avatar and I've been trying to fix it since. I still seem to be up though.

I am having problems with some objects, I think that's why it's so hard to get my avatar back to normal.

[01:29am PST] Alright everyone - we are still in the midst of cleaning up. Unfortunately this may take a few hours. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Oh no... that means I'll have to actually work at work today.

*sighs*

Do you think they'd notice if I installed WoW on my office PC as well?

An extremely helpful Linden told me to clear cache.... which I'd already done before I logged on... and to relog... after the logins were disabled.

I don't think half of them even knows what goes on over there.

rofl.

been through this too, another time.

Great if you're in the US... not so for Europeans.

Not sure, had to look it up (from Wikipedia):

Sleep is the state of natural rest observed in most mammals, birds, fish, as well as invertebrates such as the fruitfly Drosophila. It is characterized by a reduction in voluntary body movement, decreased reaction to external stimuli, an increased rate of anabolism (the synthesis of cell structures), and a decreased rate of catabolism (the breakdown of cell structures). In humans, mammals and many other animals which have been studied, such as fish, birds, mice and fruitflies, sleep is necessary for life. The capability for arousal from sleep is a protective mechanism and also necessary for health and survival. Sleep is not synonymous with unconsciousness.

It's when you log out of first life, most people log out about 11pm at night and log back in at 7am.

I'm still in FYI I got a linden IM saying "inventory asset actions may take a while, we're working on it, be patient they'll eventually go through" but I guess most people still can't get in. I must have just been lucky. They probably let a few people in to test bringing it up then shut the door again.

Things seem to be improving, hang in..

cheers

If you don't log out.. the System will eventually log you out. You can run an Anti-Idle script called "Caffiene".. some incarnations of this script are stronger than others, but the system almost always corrects for it eventually.

Do that enough though, and the Sysop eventually cancels your account. He's a jerk like that. Doesn't respond to support requests either.

Okay look.. SL is down.. it's the bloody middle of the night. I know it'll be a while before the geek-squad can be roused with promises of Hot Pockets, Mt Dew, and Xena tapes...

My business is not failing as we speak
My event is not being ruined
My carefully planned wedding is not in jeopardy
My recent creation (while missing I think) is not the end of the universe
My Linden balance isn't ruined
My Inventory isn't missing
and My Island isn't on fire.

Aside from not being able to log in.. everything is fine.

But I'm BORED!!!! Fix it! I'm lonely an' I wanna plaaaaaaaaaaay!

I wonder if anyone at the Lab thought to clear the cache and reboot the asset server? That's their answer to most of our problems, so it might just fix theirs too.

*closes the SL Client*

by the looks of the blog, it's going to be hours, not minutes.. before this thing is solved. So I am gonna fire up a movie on the TV, and have a lil lie down.

Though a rootbeer float sounds like a nice addition to my evening, before lying down.

I miss all ya'll

Given the date... this could possibly be for days. Remember it's Friday, of Christmas week when most places are on skeleton staff only anyway. This does appear to be quite a serious failure, from the cryptic messages we've been getting from the Lab, and I'm not quite sure that it's as simple as replacing a part.

However, many of us who have been telling them that one central asset server that handles everything is a major system bottleneck and a seriously bad idea that could cripple the whole grid - and possibly destroy SL - if it failed... can rest knowing that, sadly, we were right.

Club Pogo, anyone?

Well the good news is.. the Beta was recently imaged. And I'm quite certain that they do make backups... since they did JUST do asset server work yesterday morning, one assumes that they probably initiated a backup prior to that (hence the 24 hour warning).

Perhaps this situation will result in LL taking a hard look at the network topography.

But I know that at the worst case scenario... as long as we have prims, and the wiki... we can rebuild it. Even if the whole grid got wiped. (which I totally don't see happening).

I'm still thinking that they just need to wait until about 8am wherever the "hardware vendor" (server rental) location is.. til "Screwdriver guy" shows up... or until Fry's Electronics opens so they can get a new Processor, motherboard, stick of ram, or whatever went Fzzzzt. (that's a joke, but you know what I mean). Then they'll slap it back together, test it, and see if they can fire it up.

*shrugs*

Stuff happens. When I got on last, I had one shoe on, but all my stuff seemed to be in inventory, they just died halfway through attaching. So I have hope. I don't think the world will be gone.

Now, where's my icecream?
