darn it, Cris.. i was just about to post how i was moving this to Off Topic and you have to come along and say something ON topic!?! i mean, if ANYthing could be considered ON Topic in this thread, it would be the discussion of the SG group and either the motives of LL/ SL/ SG or the discussion of their treatment as a group. and you go and post something along those lines... hmph.. i had a cool ResMod action line and everything. - but you're quite right about the groups thing. calling the Suicide Girls anything offensive is to insult each indirectly and i agree, it becomes abuse. now, if one were to say "all those internet nekkie girls" are <fill in the blank>, then it's a generalized statement about a non-specific group, or rather about a stereotype. which may be the what the difference hinges on?

From: Cristiano Midnight When you are talking vaguely about a group of people ("Right wing Christians", "women", "gay truckdrivers", "Venezuelan strippers" , making a blanket statement about the group is not an attack on the individual ("Venezuelan strippers have loose morals but they have nice asses" . However, when you are speaking about a finite group of people that is clearly defined by the group members (Bedazzle, the Suicide Girls) and you make a statement about them ("The Suicide Girls are professional hookers" - it is not a general attack against a vague group of people - it is an attack on the women in this specific group. That is where some of the difference in enforcement regarding group comments come from. You can make a personal attack against a group - it completely depends what context you are speaking in. But look at the title of this thread : "Suicide Girls using Linden Labs to promote their product." Now.... what are they selling as a product? By paying for membership, you get to see naked pictures of them. In other words, selling their bodies. Now.... what do we call people who sell their bodies for money? Lewis

Lewis LOL ok so now posing nude is the same as prostitution? In what alternate universe? Prostitution is having sex for money. Nice try though.

From: Martin Magpie What did I mean by ""I think he has a right to speak without personal prosicution based on his belief system."" whoops typo queen strikes again! "I think he has a right to speak without personal prosecution based on his belief system." I don't think anyone should be singled out in the LL fourms, based on their religious beliefs. Reguardless of the reasons, I just think its wrong. I agree. Could you please point to where this occurred - a person being single out "based on their religious beliefs." A link to a post would be sufficient. Thank you.

Lewis I don't know about you, but I call them human beings. Sometimes I use "brothers and sisters".

Lewis For the last time it was parody of "Linden Labs using Suicide Girls to promote their product... said it 1, 2, now 3 times.. you just read what you want and post your own feelings. That's also an attack on the girls, each other, and just plain fighting and I'm going to report this continued fighting on what was meant to be a light hearted parody of a thread by the opposite name.

I'm an atheist. There, now if anyone ever insults me, flames me, disagrees with me, or looks at me cross-eyed, they're attacking me based on my beliefs, regardless of what a jackass I've been to deserve it. C'mon.. everyone post their religious beliefs, political leanings, ethnic background and SAT scores, so we can all be immune from disagreement for fear that we're being singled out due to one of these factors.

Folks make off-the-thread's topic replies about things like pecan pie versus key lime all the time. Nothing much gets done about that.
I'm not objecting to the idea that being respectful to the threadstarter's intention is a good thing, it just seems a bit odd to hear it brought up.
Given that this thread was a joke anyway, what is the topic? Do people have to respond with parodies of replies? Or could they offer other parodies, like Weird Al lyrics?
Once again SuezanneC is the only voice of reason.. OMG is that scary or wot! Well what to do but launch ANOTHER parody of parody to be brought back in "please bring back" threads. /112/7d/87757/1.html#post890311

After several warnings including one by Jeska, this thread still hasn't ceased in making intolerant statements about groups or individuals in SL. Whatever constructive discussion that could come out of this topic has been lost to personal attacks and derogatory language. So it'll be closed for Linden edit/review. From: someone Intolerance Combating intolerance is a cornerstone of Second Life's Community Standards. Actions that marginalize, belittle, or defame individuals or groups inhibit the satisfying exchange of ideas and diminish the Second Life community as whole. The use of derogatory or demeaning language or images in reference to another Resident's race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is never allowed in Second Life.

This thread has already been posted to by Jeska, Robin, several ResMods, and now, myself--it remains closed.
While I'm not a formal forum mod, it's clear to me this thread has outlived its usefulness. It was given several opportunities to spiral up, but the redundancy has downed it.
Consider: time wasted that could be spent having far more positive discussions... or for that matter, sharing with a loved one, since Valentine's Day is so near. <3
